1 Simpler Times

It was winter. Jonathan was helping his mother clean up after dinner and Cassy was getting ready for bed.

It was a cold night and the children set pots of boiled water outside to freeze. Jonathan loved sucking agua dura hard water (ice).

"I know you like ice," mom said, "If you finish cleaning on time, you can take the water outside when it's boiled."

Jonathan was excited, his mother never allowed him to make ice, she always said it would give him a cough.

He finished up quickly and as if the kettle knew he was done, started to whistle. Jonathan darted to the kitchen.

"Don't carry it on your own, hold on I'm coming" shouted his mother.

Jonathan wouldn't wait, he had to have ice quickly.

"Ahhh!!" Jonathan shouted.

Boiling water had poured all over him. His mother had come in only then and quickly cleaned off the water from his skin using a napkin.

"Make Carron oil," said the father who poked his head in to see the issue. Carson oil was an ointment for burns made from lime water and linseed oil.

"Our limes have run out," mom said.

"We'll get some tomorrow then," father said, "No more ice for you from now on Jon."

"Your childhood stories are so boring," said Jane, my girlfriend I've been dating for 2years.

She never liked any of his stories, but he told them anyway, of times simpler and without responsibility.
