Chapter 2: Silver II

...........

He never wanted to feel that fear of death, and while there was hope before him, he has to stay alive to take it, so he headed to the hall, finally turning his attention to what has been faintly scratching his mind.

[Awakening Ability: Silver Effect: Unknown Silver energy with unknown effect]

While waiting for all his employees to assemble, Silver paid attention to his awakening ability, finding its description to be quite odd.

However, despite the unknown nature of his ability, he still felt like he could use it, almost like an instinct, and following that instinct allowed him to manifest it.

Silver clearly felt his energy flowing through his body into his finger, only to flow out thereafter, forming a strange silver shape.

The shape consisted of a barely noticeable silver point in the center and two silver points orbiting around it, moving with such a speed that they appeared like two rings around the silver point.

The Silver Effect looked almost like two electrons orbiting an atomic nucleus, except they're the side of a pea.

"Um?" Silver blinked in wonder, his expression becoming astonished as his senses started extending outwards, further and further until they enveloped an area fifty meters around him.

He realized that he could sense everything within that domain, even hear and perceive things beyond the walls of the facility.

'Fifty? Does this domain have something to do with my soul?' Silver remembered that his Soul stat also happened to be fifty, so he had to wonder.

The Silver Effect was like a part of his body, able to easily control it anywhere within his soul domain, and its effect... Well, it was interesting, to say the least.

It seems to be able to go through metal easily, and its speed limit seemed to be related to the limit of his perception, and his soul domain allowed him to control the Silver Effect to move at a consistent speed of 500 m/s.

And that's if he wants precise control, else if he simply wants the Silver Effect to move in a single direction, it should be able to move at a speed of at least 1000 m/s.

Moreover, Silver felt like he had hardly tapped into the potential of the Silver Effect.

'Also, can I release my soul domain without using my ability?' He wondered before starting a round of experimentation, beginning by retracting his soul domain.

However, much to his surprise, the moment he retracted his soul domain, the Silver Effect vanished, seemingly only able to exist within it.

'Interesting, but can my soul domain exist without the Silver Effect?' He tried it right away, and he succeed.

[Energy: 400/700] (70*10) Silver traced his eyes on the Awakening Panel, realizing that just manifesting his Silver Effect took out almost half of his energy and that says a lot considering his energy should be significantly higher than most other awakeners.

'Hm? He's back?' Silver blinked as he sensed the head guard approaching the facility, then heading inside before locking the door behind him, drenched in sweat.

That coincided with the rest of the guards and the researchers arriving at the hall, all in hazmat suits.

"H..." The one who took the lead to speak was one of his employees, Natalia, the head researcher of the second lab, although before she could finish, Silver interrupted her.

"Silver, calm me Silver from now on, please. The same for the rest of you." Silver calmly stated.

"Ah? Why?" Natalia was confused.

"It's complicated, so let's talk about it later. Now, we have more urgent things to deal with," His words brought them back to reality, especially as he added, "Louis, tell them what you saw out there."

He didn't even need to tell them for they could they see it themselves through the glass windows of the facility, fog and nothing but fog. However, the head guard Louis, experienced much more than that.

Louis took a deep breath, doing his best to calm down his frenzied heart, "The fog is very thick, and it's getting thicker and thicker. I barely found myself back here. I could only see about a meter around me and I think it will only get worse until we can't see anything."

"No... Silver, we can't contact anyone from the outside," Natalia then said with a frown, "No, some of us who were faster were able to get a connection, but it went out shortly after."

"Oh?" Silver narrowed his eyes, contemplating the oddity of the situation, "Perhaps it was because of the fog? I was also able to contact Louis while he was outside a bit ago, although it was by radio."

"Boss! What should we do?? My family! My wife and children had plans to go to the zoo today! And they're al-already there! I told them to go back but... but what if they don't make it? How would they make it in the fog!!" One of the researchers jumped to say with dread.

"Me too!!" "Y-yeah, what if our families are out there in the fog??" "That..."

Suddenly, sounds of anxiety and apprehension reverberated throughout the hall, and they all, bar none, turned their attention to Silver, seeking advice.

He was after all the calmest of them, and he always was, something that came with his life experiences and having to deal with the coming unavoidable death, even becoming at peace with death.

"Everyone! Shut up! Is this really the time to panic? Think about what we should do, not just for us but also for our families! We're adults and we have too many responsibilities to lose our minds right now." Natalia's words were a bit rough but they did the job.

Natalia's words brought a slight smile to Silver's face as he nodded, "Let's try to stay calm and think about what Doomsday means... the last day of the world's existence, so whatever catastrophe we'll have to face will certainly be deadly, and perhaps most people on earth will die."

He traced his eyes about, seeing the fear in everyone's eyes before continuing, "However, if you remember, the announcement clearly stated that this is a game of awakening and that there are other stages, so it must want survivors, special survivors, those who adapt quickly."

Silver only had to blink and the Awakening panel appeared before his eyes, "And the game gave us the tools to adapt. Everyone, please open the awakening panel."

Silver had already confirmed a while ago that no one else can see his Awakening panel, just like he can't see theirs, so he said, "Please tell me the average of all of your stats, one by one, to get a general idea of the average stats of an adult human."

And that they did without much doubt. most of them are after all researchers, so they know the importance of collecting information.

"So around 10, huh?" Silver narrowed his eyes in deep thought before asking, "And how many awakening points do you each have?"

"5," "5," "Me too," "I think all of us have 5?"

[Awakening Points: 5] It was an option he ignored until now, not because it's unimportant but because it's too important, so he needed an example of how they work before using them.

"I... I used them all." Louis said while scratching his head.

"Oh? How do they work? And on what?" Silver asked with ample curiosity.

"I put them all in Physique, then I felt a kind of soothing sensation through my body and now I feel much stronger," Louis explained, exempting the fact that he threw all of his points into Physique because he was afraid while in the fog, quite understandable.

"I see," Silver murmured before advising, "I have a general idea of how we should distribute our awakening points. First, endurance should be a priority for many reasons, food, and sleep being the most important."

"I agree, we don't have much food in here, so if increasing endurance allows us to be able to endure more and eat less, then we might survive," Sam nodded, being the one usually responsible for transferring food from the city to here.

"That's brilliant," Natalia nodded, although for a different reason, "Every second we spend wasting on sleep is time wasted, time that would've been better used elsewhere, and sleepless nights might become the norm from now on."

"Exactly," Silver nodded before adding, "Moreover, if you think about Doomsday, what comes to mind first?"

"Doomsday?" Natalia blinked before answering, "Either a nuclear war or zombies."

"I'd say it's more likely to be zombies or monsters of some sort," Silver said, "Now what if endurance allows us to resist or endure the zombie virus? If there was one of course."

No one seemed to disagree with his advice, so he continued, "As for your secondary priority, I'd say it depends on your abilities."

"Abilities?"

"Hm?"
