Chapter 2: Lin and Tenzin
The two benders who fought earlier are now locked up in a metal prison facing each other.
The airbender being Jiran and the multiple element bender, presumably the avatar being Korra.
The two faced each other with menacing look and crunched brows and frowned face.
"This is your fault we're here!" The woman, Korra barked at Jiran who wore an incredulous expression at her accusation.
"My fault!? You started it when your polar bear dog tried to eat my food!" Jiran shouted back wearing an offended expression.
"Naga started it? You were the one who attacked us first with your airbending!" Korra cried out in anger.
"That's because you were approaching me dangerously! It was self defense!"
"Self defense my ass!"
"Quiet down you two!" The guards, unable to hear them bicker anymore, slammed his fist at the bar silencing the two.
With that warning the two shut their mouth but they still glared at each other like two siblings with grudges.
"Where are the two?" Suddenly they hear a voice outside their cell. It was the voice of a woman, it was rough and authoritative but it was undeniable it belongs to a woman.
"They are right here, Chief Beifong" Then they opened up the cell, and with that the source of the voice was released.
It came from a woman who was in her fifties or something, her head was full of gray hair and her eyes were stern.
"So these are the two troublemakers huh?" She leaned in closer, taking a better look at the two of them.
"One homeless guy and a country bumpkin from the water tribe"
It was not hard to distinguish both of them. Jiran was wearing rugged and dirty clothes indicating his lack of home; as such homeless and Korra was sporting the traditional color of a water tribe member, sky blue.
"Hey umm, miss uh what's your name?" Korra spoke, making Jiran shake his head.
"Lin Beifong," She said sternly and roughly.
"Beifong!? As in the daughter of Toph Beifong!?" Asked Korra surprised.
"Yeah, and what about it?" Still nonchalant, Lin Beifong said.
"Then your mother is the companion of Aang, the previous avatar. I'm the new avatar, can you please let me out?" Korra's eyes suddenly beamed up then she stood up from her cell and said to Lin excitedly.
Looking at her for a moment, Lin Beifong paused, then she spoke once again.
"I am well aware of who you are. Your title of avatar may impress other people but not me." She voiced authoritatively with harsh tone.
Hearing her steadfast voice, Korra knew her title of avatar won't work.
"Okay, then can I atleast talk to the one in charge to plead my innocence." She said with lowered head.
"What do you mean innocence!? I'm the one who should be pleading!" Jiran shouted on the sideline.
"You're talking to the one in charge."Lin Beifong said.
Then as their conversation was about to proceed, the door suddenly opened and another police came in.
"Chief Beifong! Councilman Tenzin is here to see you!"
Sighing, Lin turned around and replied.
"Sigh, let him in." The metal door then opened and from it a tall guy wearing orange air nomads clothing came in. He was bald with the only hair on his head being his beard and with the tattoo of blue arrow on his head, it was pretty obvious this guys an airbender.
Seeing him, Korra froze and smiled awkwardly.
"Hi Tenzin…. Sorry I got into trouble coming here…" She said meekly with her head down. Looking at the troublemaker before him and her accomplice, Tenzin took a deep breath and faced Lin.
"Lin, you are looking as radiant as ever" He greeted with a smile.
"Cut the garbage, Tenzin. Why is the avatar here in Republic city?" Lin Beifong replied resolutely.
"I thought you were supposed to be moving down to the southpole to train her."
"My relocation has been delayed. The Avatar on the other hand will be returning back to the southpole immediately, where she will stay put" Tenzin said with a no-nonsense tone while glaring at Korra.
"But—-" Korra tried to butt in but Tenzin cut her off short.
"If you would be so kind as to drop the charges against Korra I would be willing to take full responsibility for today's regrettable events and cover up all the damages." Tenzin finished.
Hearing Tenzin's persuasive voice, Lin sighed and slumped her shoulder down with a sigh.
"Fine. Get her out of my city." Then the handcuffs on her hands were undone as Lin used her metal bending discreetly.
"Always a pleasure, Lin." Tenzin replied but as he was about to walk away with Korra, Lin suddenly raised her hands and said.
"And what of the airbender?" Upon hearing her Tenzin stopped abruptly and looked at her with serious eyes.
"A what?"
"The airbender. That guy." She pointed at Jiran who glared at Korra.
"You're an airbender!?" Asked Tenzin, surprised.
Jiran nodded, then Tenzin looked at Korra who nodded just like him.
"Then make that two, Lin. I'll take full responsibility for the two."

Outside the cell, in the waiting hall.
"Tenzin, please don't send me back home!" Korra pleaded.
"You blatantly disobeyed my wishes and the orders of the white lotus"
"Katara agreed to me that I should come! She said my destiny is in republic city!" Korra justified, which made Tenzin blow up comically.
"Don't bring my mother into this!"
"Look, I can't wait any longer to finish my training, being cooped up and hidden away from the world isn't helping me become a better avatar"
"I saw a lot of the city today and it's totally out of whack. I understand now I need to stay, republic city does need you. But it needs me too. Please let me stay in here.`` Korra said resolutely with a fire of determination burning in her eyes.
Hearing Korra's reasoning, Tenzin tried to rebutt but no words came out of his mouth. Korra was right, she won't become a better avatar if she stays cooped up and hidden in the white lotus, all she would become is a sheltered flower compared to wild flowers.
"Yeah… you two do your own thing… imma head back to my streets, my bed might've been stolen already" Jiran butted in, then he walked slowly and sneakily away but he was stopped by Tenzin's big hand grabbing his shoulder.
"No, you stay young man, you're coming with me"
