3 Chapter 2: Job of simply existing

I have only year left until this World becomes independent Reality. And I thought of leaving this world for now and maybe reincarnate in different timeline. And before leaving I started dilligently train to full use of my remaining time.

To be honest I really want to stay here in my cozy little cottage. But I know isolation will not do any good to my mental health, most important thing to me since there is no meaning if I snap before my will became strong enough to withstand life of eternity.

So I decided to live easy-going life for few decades after going through few more worlds, and maybe find someone who is willing to share eternity with me.

*sigh* when i think about it, I can't help but sigh loudly.

Finding someone like that is by no means easy task, specially considering I can't mess with my partners head, so no brainwashing to make her loyal. To be honest I like things this way, since I will most likely spend eternity with her so things will one day come to light. Relationship based on deception and lies will not last for lifetime let alone eternity. So I have to be extremely careful with my choice.

'Well, let's leave this matter to future me.' I have no choice but to push matter aside for now since it is not important for now. For now I'm going enjoy peace. So, I left for another day of hunt.

But it doesn't mean Roy was idle. Oh no, he was training his body from the moment he can move, now if he got falna his stats will be almost same as level 3 adventurer and his skill set will get him into any familia. Unfortunatly he can't, because joining familia is considered being under influence of Deity, so he's protected from that. Not like he's missing out anything since his physical energy technically removed upper limit of his body.

On mental side he was able to use minor telekinesis since birth using his sheer will. Maybe operating strongest computer in existence with only will, made his will so strong that it started affecting his surrounding. But it is not at level of doing something signifucant, moving chairs around is most he can do for now.

And his memorising ability is on different level compared to his past life too since now he can organize his memory by exerting his will, so Roy lifted quite bit of burden from his short term memory and his brain activity become so efficient that it is almost rivaling perfect recall. It was hard to get accustomed to sudden improvement and caused him quite headache at first. But it doesn't mean he suddenly became genius though. He's just ordinary person with very good memory. (A.N: His word! Not mine!)

For example, even if he memorised entire library, it doesn't mean he perfectly understood every book. But Roy can tell his comprehension is slowly being enhanced by his willpower.

Lastly, his energy side has no improvement. He really have nothing to say in this regard since he can somewhat guess why, he's person who came up with this after all. There is two possiblities of this happening.

First, magical energy of this world is so inferior and inefficient that his blank energy will not get improvement from this.

Second, magical energy of this world is under direct influence of someone or something, it can even be some group. In Roy's opinion it is highly likely, since in this world there are so many Deities they may have direct influence on magic or World itself has absolute control over magical energy. Normally this will not problem since even if World had this kind of control over energy since his reactor will replicate trait of energy and evolve without need to absorb any energy, it is enough to just come to contact with it, but if magic only works by interacting with world then his defense will reject it.

So, Roy came to conclution that magic of this world is result of interaction between caster and world using chant as medium. Quite ironic since elf is one of, if not most magically gifted sapient race in this world but here he is, pure-blood elf who doesn't even have shred of magical energy.

If he remembers correctly, author of Danmachi never really specified how magic works in this world, so maybe World filled that gap with this kind of method.

Since there is not much time left until he left this world and during his stay Roy decided to improve as much as he can since he was sure this life will update his base information by quite bit.

Just like that I started enjoying my retirement from life of classic salaryman in middle of forest in slightly dark fantasy world. During this time I started to get great satisfaction from making progress in training and honing my skills. I specially enjoyed hunting, as it makes me feel close to grandma Claire and activity itself is quite enjoyable.

Following trails and clues, closely inspecting and researching my preys, predicting their movements, lastly aiming arrow at unsuspecting target. It is this moment gives me most thrill, the clueless look on them while arrow pierces through their head feels, strangely satisfying.

Maybe, my mental health is deteriorating faster than I thought. Well, I will fix it when I reincarnate in one of those slice of life animes, or comedy types, maybe? Definitely not sci-fi, those just don't sit well with me. Just imagine being born with elven ears in sci-fi or ordinary modern world for that matter, thought alone gives me chills.

Now, that I think about it I have to find a way to solve that issue. Maybe I have to find a way to shapeshift or transform. Such abilities will come to handy one way or another anyway.

Well, that aside now I have less than week left in this world. So, I decided to hunt my last game of this world, which happened to be forest bear.

I have been stalking it for almost day and I have to say, bears of this world are quite vigilant. Maybe they were vigilant in my old world? No, there bears didn't have natural predator, so they have no reason to be vigilant. However things are different here, there are many monsters even outside dungeon. Even though they are weaker than their dungeon counterpart, some of them can prey on bears.

Anyway, now my prey is busy with its dinner and what is most suitable time to hunt than now? Unfortunately this bear will not eat anything as long as it is outside its comfortable hole. Like, what kind of bear are you? Why are you hiding in hole?

Thinking about it made my eyebrows twitch slighly. I may have became patient since started hunting, but there is limit to everything! This little bugger was like bear version of Alastor [Vigilant] Moody for almost day! Won't drink from from river, won't eat out in open and deliberately go though places with lot of obstruction. Even way it walk is quite jumpy and become startled with even slightest of sound.

Even if this bear is vigilant I'm sure damned bear doesn't know I'm stalking it. I'm proud of my abilty to hide my presence, my ability is not just footwork and breathing technique, to hide myself I use my 'will' to make myself undetectable to others. My technique works by making others ignore my presence, this can be considered mind manipulation but I guess my defensive system doesn't pervents me from doing something that doesn't affect thought process. Let's hope it protects from something like this as well.

'If it doesn't know I'm here, then why is this little bugger so jumpy?' so I started to look for reason for that, then I suddenly realized.

'Ah, I may have alarmed animals of this side of forest, even though I tried to be as discreet as possible.' Well, it just means I have much to learn.

'Okay, enough of stray thought, let's concentrate on hunt.' I really need to stop monologuing like this.

>P.O.V narrator<

Even with all those annoyance Roy was patiently stalking his prey. While it was annoying, stalking such cautious prey has thrill of it's own. While he can just get close and kill the bear using pure physical strength without trouble, he is enjoying hunt too much to end it here.

But soon his little game with bear came to end as his prey came to clearing where he can shoot it down easily. Maybe it got tired of being under so much stress? Or is it just coincidense? He didn't know. But bears thoughts were irrevelant, he was hunter and it was prey. So he let loose arrow and ended his last hunt in this world…

>Several reincarnations later<

I spent many years living dufferent lives. Now I can confidently say I'm completely different person from before my first reincarnation. And I'm ready to start new life as new person.

Well, things were quite boring after first rebirth. I can only blame myself for that though, since I was too lazy to get involved with plot and watch my every step to make sure I don't destroy the Record.

But that didn't mean I was idle though. I tried many things, like being born as animal since animals have little to no exposure to most stories, becoming humble farmer in far corner of cultivation worlds, living as hermit in magical societies. And I honed my ability as hunter as much as I can.

Because when I reincarnate plot will be starting or already started I have to extremely careful my choices, so I will not ruin plot just by existing assuring that I can laze around until I leave the world. And now I'm looking for starting point for my new life.

Honestly I may have spent many years traveling various worlds, I didn't grow up as person that much since I was as far from society as possible, now I even have habit of looking at every living being as possible prey.

*sigh* 'Now is not time to be reminiscing.' I interally chided myself for my bad habit.

Anyway now I have gone thought enough Record Worlds to live for thousands of years. But I have to choose my starting point carefully. Since I actually didn't really update my energy with other types, since I wanted to do it during my travel, except few that I has no interest in going back. Well, 'vitality' has updated too, since I added one particular energy type the moment I came across it. This is sacred duty of any loyal fan to learn how to use 'it'.

Well, leaving that aside, let's choose world first.
