36 Despair

As soon as he activated the system restore mechanism, Zhang Wei felt his strength coming back. His domineering aura and his insane stats filled every single fibre of his body with power.

Though his Spirit Energy hasn't changed, it still suffered from restriction status. Though it went unnoticed by Zhang Wei, it had its own effect. His domineering aura diminished quite a bit.

Restriction Pill was sort of an unusual pill. The method of making and its unusual effects were simply far too mysterious.

Even though it was ranked as a Level 3 pill, it wasn't known in this realm. He had looked through Division Head Syamil's entire formula library but could not find a single information regarding the Restriction Pill.

Regardless, it still felt good regaining his strength back

He opened up his status and checked if everything was as he tweaked.

Sure enough his stats were as he tweaked them. He also noticed that there were no more remarks. While he had always hated those remarks, he felt somewhat empty not seeing them.

The reason he set up his stats like this was because he was mimicking Asyraaf's stats. He can't afford to show that he was the powerful Zhang Wei, but having strength similar to the Little Genius was completely understandable.

Since Richard had unleashed his full might as a Level 3 Martial Practitioner, he also did the same. His aura exuded his entire might.

The domineering pressure filled the whole area, making some weaker disciples suffocate.

Even Richard himself took one step backwards when he collided with this aura, he was not surprised however.

Since aura was only the leakage of Spirit Energy, and considering Zhang Wei's massive pool, he already knew the aura would be heavy.

However, he was not frightened. Since he had an advantage in cultivation, he could definitely overpower him with his physique.

He charged directly at Zhang Wei, his right hand sticking forward as if he was trying punch him.

While he is a Strength Type, he did invest a lot of effort in cultivating his speed.

Thus, he didn't believe that he could not out speed a Level 1 Martial Practitioner.

To Zhang Wei though, Richard's speed was no more than a sloth trying to run.

Zhang Wei wanted to show how domineering he could be, so he had to set an example of Richard. He easily stepped to the side and dodged Richard's fist.

He raised his right hand up to a fist and slammed it down unto Richards elbow.

A loud snap could be heard, as Richard screamed in endless agony. Richard rolled to the ground while holding his broken arm with his other hand. His screams didn't die out, and he didn't stop glaring at Zhang Wei.

To Refiners, their arms were more precious to them than any other body part, thus It has always been an unspoken rule when Refiners fought.

'The arm was not to be crippled'.

Today, Zhang Wei broke this rule.

"HOW DARE YOU!" His arm was bent to the other side, as he was kneeling on the ground. How would he have thought this would happen.

[Wasn't he Level 1! How Is he so strong?]

"How dare I?" Zhang Wei replied emotionlessly. He walked towards Richard with a cold face. Richard continued to glare at Zhang Wei, but his eyes carried a hint of fear. Every step Zhang Wei took, was like the Devil coming closer to take his soul.

He wanted to run, but he was petrified. As soon as Zhang Wei was in front of him, his eyes were shaking.

He opened his mouth to beg for mercy, but words won't come out. Right now, in his eyes, Zhang Wei was the God that would decide if he lives or dies.

Zhang Wei looked down on the kneeling Richard, His eyes showed disdain, [This kind of Trash tried to attack me? Pathetic bug!]

He raised his hands and said slowly, "Am I worthy now?"

He swung his hands down, right to Richard's face. Just as he his fist was about to reach… a hand grabbed his arm.

The hand belonged to none other than Asyraaf!

Both of them stared at each other. Zhang Wei screamed internally,

[Another bug! I'll KILL YOU TOO!] He didn't care if it was Asyraaf. Whoever gets in his way, will die!

"Why are you stopping me?!" He asked coldly.

Asyraaf's expression did not change one bit. He looked at Zhang Wei right in the eye and said calmly,

"Look around you."

Zhang Wei looked around him and became wide eyed.

Bodies...

Bodies lying here and there. None were moving. Almost all of them were holding their chest, as if… of... asphyxiation.

Of the group of people that came, all of them were… dead…

"… I… did… this?" He couldn't believe it.

What had he done?

How did this happen?

Asyraaf's face showed a trace of sadness. He said, "You didn't restrain your aura. They all suffocated."

"I tried to warn you, but you… wouldn't listen."

Zhang Wei's face went pale. What happened to him? Was this who he truly was?

He tugged his head and his body shook. His arms wouldn't stop shaking and his emotions were running wild. And for the first time…

He screamed…

This scream wasn't one of glory, it wasn't one of determination to go battle…. It was one of despair.

He couldn't think anymore.

[How did they do it? How did those MCs in those novels do it so easily? HOW?!]

He was just a regular person. He was average. He was raised on morals back in his old world. He was taught that life was precious.

[But-but-but those people targeted me! They wanted to kill me! THEY WANTED TO KILL ME!]

Did those people deserve to die? Probably.

Did they need to die? If they posed a threat, it was better to get rid of them.

He had the moral high-ground, his actions were justified…

So why?

Why does it hurt so bad? Why does he not feel any accomplishment? He got rid of threats that could one day hurt him. Why did he not feel good?

Why did he look at death with such simplicity before?

He felt nothing killing all those wolves, he felt nothing when he was considering to kill Asyraaf. Why does he feel it all now?

Asyraaf didn't say a word. As Zhang Wei was screaming, Asyraaf watched. He knew Zhang Wei did nothing wrong.

In this world it was survival of the fittest. He grew up with that mantra.

He had even killed people before. He was indifferent to it all. But Zhang Wei was different, and he knew that.

Back then, in the restaurant, when he saw Zhang Wei talked about commoners, he saw it.

Zhang Wei may be an expert, but he valued life.

He wondered, why did Zhang Wei's eyes look so pure?

Now he knew. Despite being powerful, Zhang Wei had never taken a life.

So when he saw this scene, he didn't comfort him, he didn't say a word. He only watched.

He was fundamentally different from Zhang Wei.

He didn't have that much value towards life because he was taught that, his was more valuable than everyone else's.

He didn't have the right to say anything to Zhang Wei.

So he watched.

Time passed, but Zhang Wei did not stop screaming.

-

Inside a closed space, there is a room that is fully white. White bright light surrounded the room, filling it with a special kind of energy.

A handsome man was inside the room. He sat comfortably on a chair. He was leisurely drinking tea. His whole being was unlike a normal person.

No trace of aura exuded from him. Nothing could be sensed. However, his face was not calm, but instead of worry.

At the corner of the room, the surrounding energy started to fluctuate suddenly, and a ripple of space was formed. The ripple resembled a portal, and a woman's figure stepped out.

She looked at the handsome man and asked, "He lost his mind?"

The man did not look at the woman, and instead put down the tea cup and answered, "I shouldn't have allowed that anomaly."

"What do we do now? Let him stay like that?"

"How could we. It won't work if he's insane."

"Then what do you propose?"

"Re-write it." The man answered with a tinge of sorrow.

"Everything? If we did that, he would turn out differently." The woman was surprised.

"No need." He picked up his cup again.

"Just that one time."

"Very well." The woman said before she passed through the ripple. Before she completely disappeared, the man voice rang again,

"Sorry for making you do this." His voice had a tone of remorse. The woman turned back her head and said to him with a smile,

"For him, I would do anything."

-

Zhang Wei opened his eyes slowly. He found himself staring at a familiar ceiling.

[My room?]

He felt weird, almost as if he had a bad dream. His whole head was fuzzy. He felt as if he had seen visions about…

What was he about to think?

He looked outside and remembered,

[I need to meet up with Asyraaf at the restaurant!]
