5 Chapter 5: Monster Slayer.
Bullets continued to penetrate the barrier, causing cracks to expand. It was on the verge of breaking.
'System, show me my status.' He hurriedly requested.

Fast and agile was the key, the sooner he finished them off, the closer he could get to safety. In light of that, Rex used his two stat points.
'Apply two SP into agility.'
[Two stat points have been applied to agility.]
An energy rush swept through Rex's body. He began writing immediately.
[Quicken.]
[Sight.]
[Strength.]
[Light.]
Four words were perfectly written consecutively, one after the other. Upon activation, they attached promptly to his body. His writing speed had increased noticeably.
He had [Quicken.] attached to his legs and [Sight.] attached to his forehead. He had [Strength.] attached to his arms and [Light.] attached to his waist.
[Energy: 90 -> 70%]
Rex felt a surge of power rush through him. He felt lighter, more nimble, and stronger. Finally, he could see the Wolves outside the barrier that were shooting at him.
In pairs, they stood side by side. There are two in front of the barrier and two behind it.
Rex clicked his tongue.
'They're in formation... Looks like I'm gonna have to gamble with words I've never tried before.'
Trying out new words came with a risk, there was no telling how much energy would be consumed. Due to the lack of weapons, he had no choice.
Taking a glance at Lucia, he quickly wrote down another [Barrier].
Shatter!
The barrier shattered.
And in the nick of time, another barrier was erected to replace the shattered barrier. Within that instant, Rex had leaped out of the barrier and landed on the wall of the building beside him.
[Energy: 70 -> 60%]
As quickly as possible, the monsters changed their bullet trajectory from the barrier to him without giving him a second's leeway.
Rex, who had been hanging off a window, smiled as he kicked off while writing a word in the air.
All of the creatures fired at his airborne figure, but in the end, the bullets didn't hit hit him, but rather their ally, leaving the monsters in dissaray.
[Swap.]
[Energy: 60 -> 45%]
One wolf from the pair in front had swapped places with Rex, leading to it being sprayed with bullets in his place. By the time its pair noticed that Rex had switched places with it, it was too late.
[Pierce.]
[Energy: 45 -> 35%]
With his palm, he slammed the word [Pierce.] onto the wolf's head from the side.
Splatter!
There was a burst of blood from the wolf's head as a hole formed from one side to the other. Rex penetrated the brain of the animal, instantly destroying it.

'Two left.' He thought to himself as he watched the remaining two cyberwolves circle around the [Barrier].
As soon as he was in their sights, they began firing at him. Prior to the rounds hitting him, Rex had written down a word, which was instantly activated.
[Shield.]
[Energy: 35 -> 30%]
All bullets were blocked by a crimson highlighted shield that manifested in the air before him.
In spite of the shield effectively blocking the bullets and having the advantage, Rex seemed bothered by something.
'I've almost used up all my energy and the boss still hasn't shown itself...'
Shatter!
Rex's eyes widened, his thoughts interrupted as the shield shattered and a large bullet appeared before him.
With the help of his buffs, his body instinctively reacted. In a flash, he bent backward, barely avoiding it as it skimmed his forehead.
As blood dripped from his face, Rex glanced in the direction the bullet had come from.
A giant wolf almost three times the size of the ones ahead of him stood on top of a nearby building behind the two wolves.
There was a sniper rifle on its back, and a machine gun on its stomach. It was their boss, an Advanced Cyber Wolf.
Seizing the opportunity now that the shield was gone, the two cyber wolves unleashed their rounds on his bent over figure.
Countless bullets flew towards him. However, despite that...
He grinned.
'Found you~.'
[Accelerate.]
[Energy: 30 -> 10%]
Activating a hidden word, Rex's figure vanished, abruptly appearing right before one of the wolves with his palm on the top of its head.
All of the bullets had missed.
[Pierce.]
[Energy: 10 -> 0%]
An opening formed in the head of the wolf, which burst with blood.
[You killed 1 Cyber Wolf!]

The death was swift. Yet, at the same time-
BAM!
Rex's body was pierced by a large round of a bullet, which took an entire chunk of flesh from his torso as it sent him tumbling backwards.
It was a concentrated shot that hit a vital organ. His bullet wound oozed blood as he lay motionless.
[In exchange for an LP.]

Seeing Rex suddenly get up uninjured, the Wolves pupils adjusted themselves. The bullet that had been in him had fallen out on its own, and the wound had healed. Their intelligence system could not determine what had occured, they were convinced that it had been a deadly shot.
[HP: 15/15.]
[Energy: 100/100%]
As he began writing a word down, Rex's grin widened.
The Advanced Cyber Wolf fired off another round through the rifle in the direction of Rex, sensing danger.
But it was a second too late-
[Swap.]
[Energy: 100 -> 85%]
Rex's figure swapped with the last remaining Cyber Wolf just before he was struck by the bullet.
Splatter!
When the heavy round struck the wolf's head, it burst into pieces.
[You killed 1 Cyber Wolf.]

'I love how that counts as a kill even though I didn't kill it.' He noticed as he glanced at the deformed corpse. 'That being said... I guess you're the last one...' He glared at the Advanced Cyber Wolf.
