8 Chapter 8

Paula came up to Danny when he entered the vestibule outside the sanctuary. “Where the hell have you been? Mr. Elderman wants to go over things before the mass.”

“I’m sorry,” Danny mumbled. “I got lost on the way here.”

Paula rolled her eyes and gave him a look. “You went to the funeral home didn’t you?”

Danny nodded.

“Come on!” She took him by the wrist and fairly dragged him along as if he were a naughty child to a small room just off the vestibule. The rest of the family was already there waiting for him.

“Sorry,” he said.

“He went to the funeral home even though I reminded him at the meeting we were coming here,” Paula said in an exasperated tone.

He received a reproving look from his brother, but understanding smiles from his niece and nephew as well as Luis.
