Mage Association

The entire planet of Liberty Domain is one giant country. The planet had a Water to Land ratio of 80:20. Liberty City, which is the capital city of the planet, is almost the size of a continent.

Eric was currently living in Zone 34 of the City. He didn't have any family to speak of as he was abandoned in an orphanage. On a colonized planet, the quality of life was very good; hence, he was able to get proper education and accommodation until now.

Spending the past 20 years of his life in this world left Eric with a deep impression of it being his home. Soon, Eric heard an explosion. Looking outside the window, he could see his neighbor's house was on fire.

"Help! Somebody, please help", screamed his neighbor as his body was like a blazing torch. It was unclear how the fire started, but his neighbor seemed like a goner.

He then looked around and saw an 8-year-old girl's entire body turning red as she turned into some sort of bomb, and exploded into a massive ball of fire.

At this moment, Eric also felt some sort of energy burning in his chest. The pain was excruciating but it suddenly disappeared. And then something popped in his vision.

[Mana +1]

Having concluded that his system was in effect, Eric immediately closed the window and went back to his room. He thought of something and said, "Status".

[Title: None]

[Defence: 8(10)]

[Agility: 11(10)]

[Vitality: 9(10)]

[Mana: 1(0)]

Eric looking at his screen gained a new understanding of himself. He guessed that the average human had 10 of each of the basic attributes. He found that his Mana went up by 1, most likely because his system has extracted it.

Thinking so, Eric quickly turned on the tv screen, only to see that all over the world, monsters started appearing. He also saw domesticated animals turning into a massive beast and attacking their masters.

Moreover, he saw the same explosion of people who burned from within. In addition, people also started to turn into zombie-like creatures who went berserk from being unable to control the mana.

Eric after seeing what was happening, quickly rummaged through his belongings, finding an Axe. He also packed all the food and water bottles he had into his bag.

Eric looked at his phone to access the map. His current goal was to reach the nearest shelter. He was in zone 34. The shelter closest to him was about an hour away in terms of walking.

Readying himself, he went out. It was 8 in the morning and the world felt as if it was midnight. Eric could constantly hear explosions happening around him as he stepped out of his apartment complex.

As he was walking, he saw a middle-aged man, eating a women's internals. The man noticed him and then instantly charged toward him.

Eric, who saw the man running at him, hacked his Axe towards the man's head, almost splitting it in half.

[Strength +2]

Feeling his increase in strength, Eric came toward the women's body. And instantly received another notification.

[Agility +1]

Because of the commotion, 2 more zombies came towards him. Being familiar with the process, Eric charged at them. Killing them both within a few seconds.

[Strength +1]

[Endurance +2]

While Eric was venturing his way towards the shelter, the Mages Association located on the planet was in a mess.

In a dark room in an unknown part of the planet. 50 people could be seen sitting around a massive rectangular table. Men at the head said in a hoarse voice,

''It's good that all of you are safe and sound. Based on the rules of Awakening, you should all know your responsibilities right now. Also, select all suitable candidates with sufficient amount of mana, and if possible bring them over to the headquarters.''

''As you all know, when the Awakening happens, a portion of the people would be able to get a mage talent. We need as much new blood as possible and not let these talents die for nothing. The Mana Awakening is a major event. Almost every high-rank mage received their mage talent during their world's awakening. If we can even get one such individual out of this planet, then it would be considered a success.''

After the leader of the mages, explained the new tasks. Everyone quickly left, except for one.

''Lord Richard, it is impossibly rare to witness a planet's awakening. How many mages do you think we would get out of this Awakening?''

The man named Richard calmly smiled and looked at the women in question, ''If even 100 of them survive then it would be worth it.'' Seeing him display an emotion where he doesn't even mind if almost an entire billion people perish as long as few magic acolytes survive, sent a shiver down her spine.

Richard looked at her and then said, ''A mage's life is supreme. Throughout the universe, the maximum amount of mages a planet can birth is limited. We are gods of these worlds Alia, act like one.''

Though Richard was still not a rank 1 mage, he was still blessed with a magic root and had the potential to become a ranked mage. He was nearing 150 years old. And this Awakening was also a life-saving grace for him. However, since he wasn't a native of this world, it wasn't as useful as it could be.

In his mind, Richard lamented over the fact that some people in this world might even rise to rank 1 or even 2 within this awakening. After all, they were the people to whom this Mana Awakening belonged.

As a vessel for the Mage Federation, Richard's duty when an event like this occurs is to quickly pass down magical circuit diagrams and all sorts of spells to the entire populace. People who were able to utilize mana would then be able to easily use them and save themselves from peril. That was the task that he had given to all the low-tier acolytes earlier.
