1 Chapter 1 The Wheel

================================================================

Tik tok tik tok...

"Huh?"

Waking up in an unusual-looking room, Kypher, was confused. It wasn't exactly a room more like just pure darkness. Or was it light? He couldn't tell. He rubbed his eyes and hoped to wake up from this 'unnatural reality'.

Tik tok tik tok...

"So you're finally awake" Kypher spun around and saw a being. "Yes, yes. Take your time." the being spoke. It was an unknown to him, yet seemingly familiar. It was a human-like shadow. Yet... it was not. The being had no eyes, no mouth, no hair, or any sort of features whatsoever. It was just grey. Like steel, or iron. But darker.

Kypher took a moment to compose himself. He wasn't sure what to think at the moment. So he chose the next best course of action that was taught to him in the army. Calm down.

Tik tok tik tok...

"There you go" the being spoke again. The words seem to come out of it. Yet it felt like the darkness spoke to him."Wasn't that hard, now was it?".

Tik tok tik tok...

'Yes. Yes, it was' Kypher wanted to say. Instead, he chose to keep his mouth shut and inspect his surroundings. He looked around to find that damned clock. and look at the time. He had been trained for many scenarios while he was in the army, yet none fit seemed to this one. He started to brainstorm ways of getting out of this darkness. But a sudden thought filled his mind. Was he… dead?

The sound of the clock suddenly vanished.

"Yes". The word reverberated around the darkness shattering all hope that he was trying to hold on to. Yet it was freeing.

Kypher couldn't help but relive his life. He wasn't smart. or handsome for the matter. He had lived an average life. His parent had tried to warn him of mediocrity, yet he ignored them. He chose to serve. He chose to fight in a war that was not his. And after the war, he chose to struggle for some measly change, yet did not try to lift himself from poverty.

Looking back, it almost felt disappointing that the most eventful moment in his life was, in fact, his death.

'Enough. I chose to live under such circumstances. Nobody wanted to employ an army vet who suffered from. Yet I didn't try to. There is no point in wallowing in self-pity. I'm dead. But now what. What is going to happen to....' Suddenly the being intruded on his inner thoughts.

"Now that that's done. Time to get to business. What would you like to happen?" It spoke.

Now that Kypher focused on the voice he realised it sounded a lot less human and more like a soft humming. But for some reason, he understood what was discussed. 'Wait... I'm focusing on the wrong thing. What did he mean by that? "like to happen", is he giving me a choice? can I go back to when I was a teenager? or like in those cliche no...'

"I meant exactly what I said. Yes, I'm giving you a choice. No, you can't go back to your world. I won't bother to explain why. Let us just blame the time-space continuum. And yes something similar to the novels you used to read when you were a teenager." It interrupted Kypher's train of thought while answering them. " And yes, if that is what you want the same rules to apply. No more than 3 wishes. Nothing overpowered. You get to keep your memories and pick a world. However, I'll do something different. If you want, and I repeat, IF you want, you can exchange the ability to pick a world with something random and gain 1 more wish " It added.

"Who are y-" Kypher tried to ask

"Call me Titan." Was the response

"Where am -" He tried again.

"Void," Titan said. All of a sudden he started saying as if knowing what Kypher wanted to ask: "You were stabbed. I removed your memorise to save time. Yes, you will remember them when you will need to. No, your powers have to be related to the world you are sent to, but I shall be a bit flexible. No system. Yes... no system. Also, No gacha."

As soon as Titan was finished speaking Kypher's eye started to twitch. It was somewhat amusing to the featureless steel figure. Kypher just continued trying to stare at the eye-less figure. He was royally pissed. But chose not to do anything for the time being.

Finally, after a long silence, Kypher finally spoke.

"What's the ca-" He tried

"There's no catch," Titan said and in the process interrupted him again.

"GOD DAMN IT. LET ME FINI-!!" Kypher could no longer hold himself. He wanted to thrash the lead-filled bastard. As he was about to start screeching his head off like a Banshee, the being interrupted him again. But the words that were said caused Kypher to freeze…

"There is no catch." Titan repeated. "However, you should do your best to survive. No matter what world you are sent to, it will try to reject you. Only after surviving your adolescent years will it accept you as a native. Your destiny is not set in stone. But destiny shall try to revert all of your changes. Once you become a native. It shall attempt no more"

"What do you mean by rejec-"

"It will attempt to kill you"

Hearing that Kypher's face darkened. A world that would try to get rid of him. That would be horrifying. He started worrying about what might happen and what if this and that. Then he remembered his past life. All of his unused potentials was wasted. He lived in the slums, earning barely enough to sustain himself. But he calmed himself once more and pushed the issue to the back of his mind.

"Have you decided whether or not you want the 4th wish?"

After giving it some thought, Kypher had an idea. An idea which soon he would realise it turn out to be more than he had traded for.

"Yes"

"Very well" The being responded. Simultaneously, Titan pulled out a decently large multicoloured wheel, which had tags with name of many different worlds written on them. From Marvel, DC, The Legendary Mechanic, Overlord, Tokyo Revengers, to even Transformers and How To Train Your Dragon to name a few.

After a few seconds of reading, Kypher finally grabbed a handle and with all his might spun the wheel that would decide his future home.

Unexpectedly,, while the wheel was in rotation, instead of becoming a beautiful mess of colours and tags, a picture formed. It was something Kypher had completely forgotten, a distant memory of somewhat, of a happy family, that was laughing, messing around without a care in the world and enjoying life. It was a memory of his childhood.

Suddenly the image changed and became a memory of his first school day.

As Kypher was pulled into the sea of memories, the wheel had finally come to a halt, and there, on the light grey tag, was written...
