1 The time to run

All I can remember is a scream, a mortified blood curdling scream of pain. It wasn't coming from me but from some darkness in the background. I can't remember why or what it was for. I can't remember if it's important, all I know now is that my eyes are closed and I'm laying on something uncomfortable causing a sharp pain to shoot through my shoulder. I laid still for a while longer trying to wrack my brain for some type of memory but nothing came. Eventually the pain in my left shoulder was becoming unbearable and I had to try to move. I started at my fingers on the right. The stiffness that responded back didn't give me much hope for the rest of my body. Finding the will power and strength my arm began to slide over the hard ground. So I was on the ground? I desperately tried opening my eyes but they were stuck together and wouldn't budge. My other arm quickly swung over my body so I could make a move to at least kneel but instantly the pain in my shoulder intensified and caused me to cry out. What the hell happened to me?

I could feel the warmth of what I believe is the sun turning cold, I need to get my body to respond faster. After spitting on my fingers I was able to rub away what ever had caked my eyes only making me realise I was thirsty. It spurred me to sit up, squinting at my surroundings all I can see is the pale dirt under my legs, which were bare. They were covered in grazes and bruised. In fact looking at the rest of me all I am is purple and blue in some underclothes. My left shoulder being the worst of it all, looking out of place. I found myself chewing my lip as instinct told me what I needed to do. I place my right hand over my left collar bone, gritting my teeth I firmly fall back on my left shoulder feeling the click as it goes back in place. Slowly I roll it around making sure there was no further damage. Letting out a sigh of relief I try to stand, my eyes adjusting better to the warm light I begin to see further around me. Patches of grass growing amongst the shade of some green leafed trees. Almost tripping over my own feet, I stumble my way over to them finding some comfort within the shade. As if to test me a howl breaks the silence followed by a chorus of more howls, taking a deep breath to focus my heart to beat calmly. I steadied myself as best as I can and began to run.
