Chapter 2: Transmigrated

After what seemed like a very long time, light poured into the room through the curtains as the sun's rays shone upon a young boy's face and woke him up.

A young boy with jet black hair and blood red eyes stirred awake and got out of the bed and looked around at his surroundings.

"Where am I ?" asked the young boy as he stared at his reflection in a body sized mirror.

Just then, memories started to flood into his brain. They were the memories from the previous owner.

A rush of pain struck the young boy as he collapsed onto the floor and he started to hold his head which was aching from the sudden flood of memories into his brain.

After what felt like a long time, the pain subsided as he started to get back onto his feet.

The sudden memories that belonged to the body's previous owner which had flooded into his brain had revealed his whereabouts.

He was currently in the novel that he had just finished reading before he died - "The Villian's Return". But not as a note worthy character, instead he was a mere side character who was used by the main character who regarded himself a hero who was born to save the world and was going to be killed by the villian in the next Arc.

And the name of this side character, he found out to be none other than Keith Selves.

He lives alone as both of his parents had died as one of the many heroes who played a role in saving the [Human] race from the [Demon] race when they attacked three years ago.

The [Kingdom of Termias] in which the [Human] race lived had suffered a huge loss in architecture as well as agriculture during the war between the [Demon] race.

And as such, the kingdom was going through a tough time as they were trying to recover from the war.

Some race's had also decided to take this chance to try and take over the humans' territory. Especially the [Vampire] race, who had already taken over three cities from the twenty one cities in the [Kingdom of Termias] and they were trying to take over more cities.

The other race's that were trying to get their share in the pie was the [Dwarf] race as well as the [Demon] race who had somewhat recovered from the war with the [Human] race, three years ago.

The [Elven] race and [Beast Kin] race had decided to not take part in the on going struggle for a share in the territory.

The [Dragon] race had just decided to not bother themselves with such scuffles as they believed that they were a formidable race on their own - which in their own right were indeed a powerful race.

After sorting out all of his memories and getting himself accustomed to the world's current affairs, he decided to go to the bathroom to take a shower.

But just before he could take a step forward, he heard a mechanical voice sound in his head as a panel appeared in front of him.

[Ding ! Devourer System Activating ...]

[20% ... 40% ... 60% ...]

[80% ... 100% ...]

[Ding ! Devourer System Online ...]

[Good morning host. I am your system - the [Devourer System] - designed to help you in becoming the most powerful being in the world.] - said the system as it introduced itself to Keith.

"..."

"Uhh ... yeah, good morning," said Keith as he came out of his stupor and replied to the system's greetings.

"Do you have a name ?" asked Keith as he looked at the panels in front of him.

[Uhh ... No, but if the host could give me a name, it would be wonderful !] - said the system with a very excited tone.

"What about ... Jerry ?" asked Keith as he he pondered and waited for the system's reply.

[Yes, that is a great name !] - replied the system in a excited tone.

[You know host ... you do not really have to talk with your mouth to speak to me. You can do so with your mind as well !] - said the system as it told Keith about the different ways that he could use to communicate with it.

"Well ... that is convenient," said Keith as stared blankly at the panel in front of him.

[Well ... you would not want to be caught speaking to yourself in public and be regarded as a psycho ... now would you ?] - said the system as it stated the obvious which made Keith's veins to bulge on the side of his head as he got annoyed.

[Any way ... would the host like me to show him his status ?] - asked the system as it got a bit serious after sensing Keith's frustration.

"Uhh ... yeah sure," replied Keith as he pondered about how his status was going to look.

[Can you not do it yourself ? Why does the host want to rely on me to do all the work for him ?] - asked the system as it spoke indifferently which managed to annoy Keith further than he already was.

"What ?! You are the one who offered to show me my status !" shouted Keith as he got even more frustrated at the system than he already was.

[Hahaha ... man I got you. Why do you have to be so serious ?] - asked the system as it laughed at Keith's outburst.

Keith grind his teeth in irritation and was planning on shouting at the system but before he could do that, the system continued to speak and told him how to open his status window.

[Yeah, so to open up your status window you just have to say: Status.] - said the system it spoke in a serious tone again.

[But before you open up your status window, you have been awarded with a starter pack. So I advise you to open that first.] - continued the system as it spoke to Keith who was seemingly starting to calm down.

"Yeah sure ... open up the starter pack," said Keith in a serious tone while he was looking at the panel in front of him.

"Wow ! This starter pack is the best ! Thank you very much, Jerry!" exclaimed Keith as he stared at all of the items that he had received from the starter pack which the system had given him.

[Yes, do not forget about who gave you all of these items.] - said the system in a voice full of confidence.

"..."

"Why did I get stuck with a narcissist system !" said Keith as he he looked at the panel with a dumbfounded expression on his face.

[Huh ? Did you say something ?] - asked the system as it was too concentrated in showing off its great abilities that it did not hear what Keith had said.

"No, it is nothing at all ... hahaha," said Keith as he scratched the back of his head in an attempt to hide what he had said about the system, from it.

[Why do I feel like I am being insulted right now ?] - asked the system with a flat tone of voice.

"No no, it is nothing at all. Do not worry about it," said Keith who had a devious smile on his face.

[Then what is with that smi- ] - was what the system managed to say before he got interrupted by Keith who was trying to change the topic.

"So the magical affinity states that it is a F rank magical affinity. So how does that work ?" asked Keith who knew exactly how the ranking system of this world worked but asked the system to explain it to him so that he could change the topic to something else before it started to argue with him.

[Oh right. There are a total of nine different ranks, namely: F, E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS.

Rank F being the lowest and Rank SSS being the highest.] - said the system as it explained the ranking system of this new world.

[Each rank also has a number of three sub ranks to each of them, e.g F-, F and F+.] - continued the system in giving Keith a very serious and detailed explanation about the ranking system.

[Of course a person can also increase the rank of their items or that of their magical affinities.] - said the system with a serious tone.

[To do so, the person just has to level up so that his rank can increase.] - said the system as it concluded its detailed explanation.

[Do you understand now host ? Do you have any questions ?] - asked the system in a thoughtful tone.

"Yes, thank you, Jerry. I understand it very well now," replied Keith.

"And ... no, I do not have any questions to ask," said Keith as he pondered for a while.

After a seemingly long time, Keith spoke to the system and asked to see his status.
