52 Riding the Coattails to Success

Daniel was about to move from his spot when he saw the hevy duty mech before him starting to lift his head again after falling flat on his face on the ground. However, just when he was about to turn away and start his sprint out of the mech's field of vision, he seemed to see a small dot moving about behind the mech's nape.

Narrowing his eyes, Daniel focused himself onto that area before widening his eyes again when he finally saw what that moving dot was.

"Holy sh*t! How did you get all the way up there!" Daniel could not help but shout when he saw a familiar figure currently uding his Glock to drill a hole behind the mech's nape. From the looks of it, the Glock is actually not a projectile weapon as Daniel had thought but actually a laser weapon that can emit a small condensed ray of laserbeam for attack.

This is actually not surprising. Without military training, the only weapons that Daniel have seen were from the action movies that he had seen whenever he had the time to watch from his VR pod back at home. Since a Glock-looking weapon is considered old-fashioned due to the fact that it was designed in the late 20th century, most directors would not want to include such a weapon in their movies.

Daniel stayed frozen as he saw his teammate drill a hole into the mech's nape. Of course, the mech in question instantly noticed 666's action and immediately tried to shake the latter off. However, it seemed that the boots that 666 is wearing has a magnetic function as even though the mech continued to shake to the point of even spinning his neck in a 360 degree fashion, 666 is still able to stay on top of the mech without any problems.

Originally, Daniel had wanted to stay and watch his teammate do his job and defeat the mech alone, but was then suddenly snapped out of his stupor when he heard someone speaking directly through to his ear by transmitting through to each other's biochip.

"Help me distract this thing while I sever its main nervous system. Although I'm trained not to get nauseous, the constant spinning is making it hard for me to drill accurately into the mech's neck." A familiar voice resounded within Daniel's head.

Without questioning, Daniel directly followed 666's command and finally unstrapped the weapon that had been lingering within his bulletproof vest for the entire time since the training regiment has started.

Getting Minerva to apply the scope function on his right eye, he directly shot at the mech in random positions, trying to distract it. However, even though the mech was being hit, the sheer mass of the mech prevented each shot of laser from penetrating through its thick armor.

"No wonder it's taking so long for 666 to drill through the mech's neck." Daniel thought to himself. It was then that 666 spoke mentally towards him again, "What are you dallying around for? Do something to distract him!"

Seeing that a normal laser weapon would not work on such a heavy duty mech, Daniel thought hard to think of a solution to his problem. At this time, he saw something that might actually work!

Due to the previous cave-in of the ground around the heavy mech, the building adjacent to the mech is currently dented forwards, looking like a miniature Leaning Tower of P*sa... well at least from the later 20th century, since the current leaning tower has been held up by strong wires preventing it from sinking any further.

This building, though, looked like it was just about to fall. If it were to fall, it would directly impact against the mech's lower body. The only question is whether Daniel's psychokinesis ability is strong enough to push the pillar still holding the building upright allowing it to free fall on top of the mech.

"I don't know if this is going to work but I'll at least try!" Daniel gritted his teeth and thought to himself. "Luckily, if I were to get behind the building, 666 would not be able to see exactly how I managed to topple it downwards. At the time I'll just say that I've brought some explosives with me and simply used them for the occasion."

Daniel ran as quickly as he could, jumping over the uneven ground filled with rubble as the mech continued to flail about, wanting to be rid of the pest on top of his neck.

Moving behind the leaning building, Daniel found two pillars located on each end of the now collapsed walls which still somewhat held the building just enough to prevent the upper levels from toppling over. However, both pillars is already cracked to a certain degree and the snaking lines of the cracks seemed to be travelling slowly, already passing the halfway point through the pillars themselves.

"Well, here goes nothing." Daniel thought.

Placing his hand right on the crack, he directly willed his mind to propell the pillar forwards. Immediately, one could see the cracks on the pillar quickening by the second. Within several seconds, the cracks was just about to reach the other end of the pillar when Daniel finally stopped. Without warning, blood started to fall from his nose.

Rubbing the liquid off from his face, Daniel immediately felt alarmed and asked the system that has always been remaining dormant within his soul.

"System? Why the heck am I nose-bleeding?! I'm just pushing a pillar! It's not like I'm taking a peek on a hot girl or something!" Daniel yelled within his head.

[Master, I have told you before that if you were to overuse your abilities, you will receive some backlash. Since the mass of the pillar is way above the threshold of your ability, it's already a miracle that you managed to last for a few seconds before only getting such a minor backlash!]

Swearing at the system for not telling him such an important detail until it was too late again, Daniel gritted his teeth and decided, "F**k it! It's better than actually dying! If 666 isn't able to destroy the mech, the both of us will definitely be dead in a matter of time!"

After the 5 second mark have passed, Daniel could use his psychokinesis again. Taking a deep breath, he placed his hand back on the almost-completely-cracked pillar and willed his mental power again. Since the pillar is already mostly destroyed, the backlash is much less this time and Daniel only managed to receive a minor headache for consecutively using his ability two times in a row.

Unfortunately, before him was another pillar that still stood upright and is even less cracked than the pillar that he had just toppled down.

Daniel slowly walked over to the other pillar and closed his eyes, getting himself mentally prepared for what he was about to do.

"Okay, Daniel!" He encouraged himself. "You can do this! What's a little mental pain and shedding a little blood! Every man can do that with a smile on his face!"

After giving a little pep talk to himself, another 5 seconds have elapsed and Daniel directly operated again, placing his hand on the new pillar. Within seconds, he suddenly felt a soaring pain from within his brain and subconsciously threw up a large amount of blood from his mouth.

His eyes have instantly turned blurry and the only thing from turning him unconscious was the biochip within his brain constantly regulating his consciousness to prevent him from fainting at such a dire moment.

Daniel directly lost command of his own body and started falling towards the ground. Luckily, since he was originally placing his hand against the pillar, the pillar itself managed to cushion his fall. Leaning against the pillar to recover, when Daniel finally regained himself, he saw that the pillar seemed to be at the inflexion point between staying upright and falling after giving a few calculations within his head.

Wiping the blood still lingering on his lips, Daniel glared at the pillar like he was about to meet his greatest opponent and shouted, "Again!"

Placing his hand on the pillar for one final time, he willed his mental power directly onto the pillar, closing his eyes in order to give his full concentration. Suddenly, a piercing pain that felt as though something was directly drilling into his head made Daniel open his eyes and howl in pain. Though, a second after doing so, Daniel had already turned unconscious, collapsing onto the ground beside the pillar as blood started to pour down from the pores of his body, leaking crimson-colored sweat towards the ground.

It was quite unfortunate as if Daniel had stayed conscious for even a seocond more, he would have been able to see the success of his own actions and see the exhilerating moment where a three-story building directly collapse itself onto the body of an AI-controlled mech.
