2 Police Station

Of course, since there were three police officers surrounding Daniel, he had no choice but to comply with their demands.

Seeing how timid and wary Daniel was towards them, Warden knew that they must have gotten off in the wrong foot.

"Anyone would feel scared if three adults were to gang up on a teenager half our size. Really, why are my colleagues always so brash when we're only dealing with a kid?!" Warden sighed to himself. Noticing how docile Daniel was, he thought that he himself was enough to escort Daniel back to the police station, so he told the others to leave.

Seeing the others' reluctance, Warden had to glare at them before they reluctantly left with a look of disappointment in their eyes.

"I know you guys just wanna use the kid as an excuse to go downtown and have some fun instead of being stuck here in the middle of nowhere, but that doesn't mean you can scare a kid like that!" Warden sneered inwardly as he watched the others leave, not even moving a single step until making sure that his colleagues were completely gone. It was only then that he turned around again and gave Daniel his original awkward smile.

"Now Daniel, why don't you come with me." Warden said as he tried to keep his voice as soft as possible. Though, his artificially high tone simply made the scene more comical.

Daniel could not help but want to laugh when he saw the big buff man before him act like that, but he still had to act guarded on the surface just in case they found out what had happened back in the mountain.

Since all automobiles were automated in this day and age, even though Warden had took the driver's seat, he had no need to actually drive the car, so instead he tried to converse with Daniel in order to get the latter to soften up a little bit.

"So how old are you, Daniel?" Warden asked in a stoic voice.

"I'm 16." Daniel replied succinctly.

"Wow, you look mature for your age!" Warden feigned a look of surprise. "Which school do you go to?"

Daniel wanted to roll his eyes since he knew that the AI would have given all of his infomation to Warden before he came and apprehend him, so the other person must have already known about his age and place of study. Though, just to humor him, Daniel replied again.

"Central High."

Warden immediately nodded with satisfaction. "My son goes to Central High as well. He's currently in his final year. Here, take a look! Doesn't he look handsome in this picture!" He opened the holographic channel and placed his family photo by the front window of the car, allowing Daniel to take a good look at the person Warden was pointing towards.

"His name is Eric. You might not know him since you are two years younger than him, but if you have any problems, I'm sure my son would help. Just say my name and he will understand." Warden said as he gaze upon the photo before him softly.

Warden continued to speak for almost the entire duration of their trip, with Daniel only giving standard, short responses, letting the other blab on most of the time. By the time they arrived, Daniel could already feel his ears ringing.

"This old man really likes to talk!" Daniel exclaimed inside his head. "If I had known about this, I would have directly surrendered myself to the policeman blockading the country road instead of walking all the way to the convenience store!"

Daniel could not help but heave a sigh of relief when he was finally let off, inwardly celebrating as he saw Warden going back to his vehicle after leaving him by the entrance of the police station. It was there that another policeman took him inside.

Today is a rather atypical day within the police station as the entire place is swarmed with people. Most of them were actually here to report the damages they had incurred as a result of the meteor shower impacting their workplace or home. Only a small minority of people were here staring worriedly at the missing persons list posted on the flat screen before them. The list updates every single second, giving the latest updates to the status of the missing persons, making it so that everyone standing before the list was unwilling to even take a second off from the list.

Daniel was escorted through this hectic main entrance area of the police room and guided through a hallway before entering into an interrogation room with the policeman in front of him. Since he was not a suspect, Daniel did not need to have his hand cuffed. However, the atmosphere within the room still made Daniel feel a bit uncomfortable.

The policeman simply asked Daniel about what had happened to him the previous night after his disappearance.

"I started heading up the mountain yesterday evening at around 6pm since I wanted to view the meteor shower event from the summit. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it to the summit before the meteor shower arrived." Daniel decided it would be better to simply give out half-truths instead of the full truth, since he himself did not know how he had survived the meteorite impact.

"At the time, I was moving through the forest, so I hadn't noticed that the meteorite until the entire sky had brightened to the point where I had to cover my eyes just to move forwards. I instantly knew that something was wrong, so I immediately ran back down the mountain. Unfortunately, it seemed that I had tripped on something and fell on the head. The next thing I knew, it was already morning."

"Since you are heading up a mountain, you must have brought mountaineering equipment with you right? Where are they now?" The policeman asked with a monotone voice.

"I immediately left them behind once I noticed the danger I was in. I thought I could run faster with less baggage on me."

The policeman simply nodded before gesturing for Daniel to continue.

"When I woke up the next morning, I found myself in the middle of the forest without knowing where I am, so I simply used the sun to determine the direction and headed east until I finally saw the toll booth by the edge of the city."

The policeman wrote down all the relevant details into his personal notepad before leaving Daniel alone in the room. After a while, the policeman came back and allowed Daniel to leave after finding no problems with his testimony. However, since Daniel might have gotten a concussion from his fall earlier, he was sent to the hospital right afterwards.

It was only after a final round of check-up at the hospital that Daniel was allowed to return home again.

Only after returning home and taking a long, relaxing bath, did Daniel finally relax on his own bed, thinking to himself, "That was one hell of an experience that I don't want to ever experience again!" He instantly fell asleep from sheer exhaustion seconds afterwards.

Daniel woke up early in the morning the next day, groaning as he tried to get up from his bed. "How are my muscles still so sore from yesterday!" Daniel complained to himself.

[Due to a lack of exercise, the host's body wasn't able to handle the strenous exercise of a running more than 5 kilometers within 3 hours without stop, leading to tension in the calf muscles. System suggest the host to take up regular exercises from now onwards.]

Hearing a strange voice within his head, Daniel immediately froze. Then, he simply acted as though nothing had happened as he walked towards the kitchen to make his breakfast.

The voice inside his head seemed to be clearing his non-existent throat before speaking again.

[Hello, Master! I am your one and only Assassin System! Please complete my missions for a chance to leave your mortal shell and enter the immortal realm!]

The sound turned from a regular robotic voice to a cutesy voice of a maiden from one of the idol groups back in the day. Still, Daniel pretended that nothing was happening and began to crack an egg by the edge of the table before pouring the egg onto a frying pan.

[Master? Please respond!]

Daniel observed the egg closely as it started to turn white in color from the heat underneath.

[Don't ignore me! Aren't you curious about me? Don't you want to become an immortal that can pierce the heavens? Hello? Pleas listen to me! If you don't, I'll zap the neurons inside your brain and fry you inside out!]

Surprisingly, Daniel managed to stay composed and actually cooked his own breakfast, finished eating it, before placing the dishes to the dishwasher for cleaning. It was only after a cup of coffee that Daniel thought his head was clear enough to respond to the voice inside his head.
