61 Next Phase

Luckily, it only took a few seconds for Daniel to recover from his 'Second Chance' skill. From what he had inferred from the System, it seems that the more he uses his skills, the more efficient and powerful they will become, so the next time he practices his skill, it would take even less time for him to recover.

In the meantime, Daniel tried to use his spiritual power in order to find out whether or not he could sitll use his Psychokinesis skill. After trying it out on one of the drones, he figured out within an instant that he could still use his original skill... it's just that he would not be able to enhance his psychokinesis skill anymore, much to his dismay.

"Why must I exchange my originally useful skill for a much less applicable one!" Daniel gritted his teeth and thought to himself. However, since arguing with the system again is honestly just a waste of time and energy, he decided to vent the rest of his anger on the target ranges in front of him instead, since he still had the rest of the hour to use within the simulation room.

Naturally, Daniel simply needed to ask Minerva to display all the weapons he could use within this weapons range before his eyes. After scrolling down the long list of weapons for a while, he finally saw a weapon that attracted his attention.

Since he felt that 666 should be an expert in wielding different weapons, he thought that the best way to improve himself right now is to mimick him and try and practice using the same weapons as his roommate. Naturally, the one that he asked Minerva to produce for him, then, is the modified Glock-looking energy weapon that 666 had used during their previous 'practice session'.

After selecting the weapon, which Daniel finally learned to be called Glock-EX, he saw the pistol materialize directly in front of his eyes.

Picking up the weapon with his right hand, Daniel took a good look at the pistol while playing around with it on his hand. Then, he directly went towards the short-ranged shooting range and started shooting at them without stop.

Of course, since Daniel had no experience in using such weapons, he had Minerva download a training module into his own biochip and tried to mimick the stance displayed within. Since this is a beginner module, Minerva directly projected a holographic image of his own silhouette in a perfect aiming stance.

Daniel directly walked towards the holographic image of himself and tried to position himself so that his own silhouette created by Minerva and his actual physical body would align perfectly. Whenever any part of his body is positioned differently than the ideal image projected by the AI, Minerva would directly tell him and ask him to shift his position slightly.

<Please tilt your hips by 20 degrees. Place your empty left hand around your right wrist. Move your thumb downwards by 2 centimeters...>

Daniel directly followed Minerva's prompts until the latter stopped speaking, meaning that the former had finally completed all the adjustments needed to his body. Now, he just needed to aim and shoot!

With a holographic scope placed right in front of his right eye, Daniel is able to zoom in upon the center of the shooting target and directly fire his pistol, pulling the trigger multiple times until it ran out of energy. After charging the Glock-EX, he shot at another target located beside the original one, but this time with one single long beam, holding down on the trigger until the gun runs out of battery again.

In the end, Daniel finally figured out why he normally would not see the main characters use this weapon in all those war biopics he had seen for his history classes. Due to the small size of the Glock-EX, the weapon is only able to store a small amount of energy, making people need to constantly charge the weapon only after around 5 intermittent shots or one long shot lasting about 2.5 seconds. Unless a person brings a huge amount of energy refill packs with him, or have a portable charger with him at all times, the Glock would be instantly rendered useless within a few seconds at a shootout against enemies.

Therefore, in normal combat situations, it would be much better for a person to bring a semiautomatic laser gun with him to a dangerous situation than something like the Glock-EX. The only reason Daniel could think of for someone to use such a wasteful weapon is that since it's much more compact than semiautomatics, it can be much easily hid within one's clothes.

The only thing positive that Daniel could say about the Glock-EX is that its range is much longer than its original counterpart since it's a laser weapon, not a projectile one. Since lasers travel at the speed of light, the range of the Glock-EX can travel for around 500 meters before its intensity starts to dissipate, which makes its range 10 times that of the original Glock.

However, it wouldn't be fair to compare something created in the late-20th century to something invented in the post-modern world.

Seeing all the cons of using such a weapon, Daniel had no idea why 666 is so fond of using such a weapon. Unfortunately, since he had spent most of the hour trying to adjust himself in the right aiming position, while also constantly replacing the charge for the Glock-EX each time he is done aiming, by the time Daniel realized all of this, it is already time to return the room.

Feeling like he had waste the latter of the hour after testing his 'Second Chance' skill for nothing, Daniel could not help but want to complain about it, so when he saw his roommate lingering about within their dorm room back at Building D, he couldn't help himself and asked why 666 would even want to use such a weapon to begin with.

"Because a Glock-EX is much lighter and compact than a semiautomatic weapon." 666 explained. "Also, if you remember, our training session is in 'lunatic mode', meaning that it would normally be impossible to kill off your opponents in one go and most of the time the only choice for you is to escape. Bringing a semi-auto with me back then would have just slowed me down."

Although Daniel still felt a little suspicious about 666's choice of weapons, he just realized something else and blurted it out subconsciously the second he thought of it, "Hey, then how did you manage to drill down to that heavy armor mech's nape for so long without running out of battery back then? I thought a Glock-EX can only last for around 2.5 seconds!"

"I simply transferred energy to the Glock directly from my mechanical body." 666 replied naturally. "With that, there would be no need to worry about my weapon running out of battery anymore."

"Ah." Daniel nodded, suddenly feeling that he was stupid for not realizing such a simple fact. Since biomechanical bodies are powered by miniature nuclear fusion cores, it really would be nothing for 666 to transfer some of his energy normally used for maintaining his own biological functions to something as small as a Glock-EX. Unfortunately, someone with a pure biological body like Daniel would never be able to use such a cheat.

"Since you are a transfer student, you would need to take another assessment to see what sort of mech suits you the best. Though, I don't think the teachers will give you the assessment so soon since you've only operated an actual mech twice in your life. Though, there are still other assessments like hand-to-hand combat and weapons training which needed to be assessed without delay. Are you ready for all of that?" 666 asked.

Since Daniel had nothing to do and managed to catch 666 at the dorm just when he was about to leave for his second period, the former decided to tag along and see what having a lecture in the EUMA is really like. Fortunately, since both Daniel and 666 are within the same level, the former is able to attend the latter's class even when he isn't enrolled in the class yet.

On the way, 666 suddenly asked this question to Daniel, instantly making the latter feel slightly nervous since he had never been informed that he needed to do such a thing in order to continue his studies here.

"How can I be ready for any of that?!" Daniel exclaimed. "I have not even had any weapons training prior to coming here except for the FPS games that I play now and then with my friend! I don't think that really counts, right?"

666 shook his head before giving Daniel a sympathetic pat on the back. "Don't worry, although teachers have higher expectations for elite students, I think they wouldn't be that hard on you considering your sensitive identity. I'm sure the Board have already told the teachers to take it easy on you lest you decide that you don't like it here and transfer to another military academy.
