4 New Skill

[Telepathy, on the other hand, is much harder to control. A person needs to first identify the neurological oscillations of its subject out of the thousands of interfering wavelengths caused by human technology nearby as well as ultraviolet waves from the sun. Then, the oscillations needed to be further isolated to perform any sort of interference upon said subject. If you want to look into someone's memories, for example, one would need to interfere with the oscillations of the synaptic discharges within the hippocampus region of the subject's brain. Whereas, if one were to use telepathy to try and interfere with the other's motor functions, they would need to interfere broadly--]

"Fine, fine! I get it! Geez! I don't have time to listen to your mumbo jumbo!" Daniel complained. "I get that telepathy is hard, okay? But why is that 'healing factor' skill even more ridiculous? Wouldn't it be easier to interfere with one's own body than others?"

[Because an enormous amount of energy needs to be consumed before one can successfully apply targeted stem cell therapy to himself.]

"Okay, fine. I'll choose psychokinesis as my first skill. Are you happy now?" Daniel grumbled.

[Much obliged.]

[Ting! You have chosen: Psychokinesis. Congratulations, young padawan! You are now embarking on the first step to becoming an immortal!]

Daniel waited for a moment to see if anything had changed within his body, but to his dismay, he couldn't feel anything.

"Hey, System! Nothing is happening to me! Don't tell me that it's really a scam after all!" Daniel shouted within his mind.

[Hmph! How dare you! I am a upright and outstanding AI system! Why don't you stop complaining first and try out your new skill on a fork or something!]

"Fine." Daniel grumbled in reply. He took out a random fork from a drawer within the kitchen before placing it before the dining table. Afterwards, he asked, "What am I supposed to do now?"

[Haven't you watched enough anime to know what to do already?! Just focus on the fork itself and imagine that you're trying to move it with your mind.]

"Okay." Daniel said.

The instant he spoke though, the fork had already moved without warning. By the time Daniel had realized what was happening, it had already reached a stop mid-way along the dining table.

"Holy sh*t! It actually works!" Daniel exclaimed in surprise.

[Told you! This system doesn't cheat!]

Daniel acted as though he was nonchalant on the outside, but inwardly he almost wanted to dance about in excitement. Of course, he still forced himself to calm down in the end and asked a serious question. "Now that I have gained an ability, why should I do to gain more power? How can I become an immortal?"

[So you're finally interested in what I'm offering?]

Although the system doesn't have a face, Daniel could imagine it rolling its eyes right now.

"It's not like I have a choice." Daniel shrugged his shoulders. "The both of us are binded together now, so even if I wanted you to scram, I wouldn't be able to do so."

[Tch! You are all tsun and no dere! I don't like you!]

"Welcome to the club." Daniel retorted.

[Master, have you sensed anything when you used psychokinesis just now?]

Daniel contemplated for a while, thinking back to the exact time when the fork had moved according to his own will. It was then that Daniel realized that he felt a slight headache for less than a second when activating his skill. After realizing this, he relayed the information to the system.

[That's right, Master. The reason why you had a slight headache for less than a second just now was because your neurons were sent to overdrive after absorbing energy directly from your soul.]

"So you're saying that the reason I can move objects is because of this soul energy of mine?" Daniel asked with a doubtful look in his eyes.

[That's correct. Soul energy is just another form of energy that exists within the universe. Biological organisms like yourself can exert such energy directly from your own souls, detached from any physical objects like your body or a machine. What actually happened when you performed psychokinesis just now was that your soul had converted its soul energy into kinetic energy upon impact with the fork, causing it to be pushed seemingly without cause.]

"You sound more like my Physics teacher now." Daniel couldn't help but complain. "Since you said that I can use soul energy now, how come I could only exert enough force to push that fork slightly. Isn't that kind of pathetic?"

[Since no one has ever taught you how to use soul energy, you weren't able to manage the energy properly and caused a 99.99% energy loss when converting soul energy to kinetic energy. That's why you could only exert so much force upon the fork.]

"So you're saying that I need to practice this pseudo-sceince like energy thingy within my soul and wield it properly somehow when I don't even know what it is?" Daniel sneered.

[That's right. Why do you think an AI such as myself is created? We attach ourselves to the host's soul in order to steadily guide it to wield its energy with better efficiency over time. Otherwise, if I wasn't here just now, most of the 99.99% of the energy lost would instantly be transferred into heat energy, instantly incinerating your body to a crisp before you can even get the chance to cry 'uncle'!]

"And where did the 99.99% energy go insteadt then, after you oh so graciously saved my life for the second time." Daniel rolled his eyes in spite as he spoke with sarcasm in his tone.

[I directly absorbed all the remaining energy, of course.]

"I knew it!" Daniel blurted out.

[It's not like you have a way to turn it back to soul energy anyways. Besides, I also need a gigantic amount of energy to operate within your soul, so each time you practice with your skills, I would also get stronger as well.]

"From what you're saying, it seems as though I need to practice psychokinesis multiple times from now on in order to level up." Daniel inferred.

[That's correct, Master! As I suspected, you're a genius!]

"Don't think flattering me is going to let me forget about how you stole almost all of my energy just now!" Daniel retorted.

[When one practices, he would become more and more fluent in said subject. Therefore, it comes without saying that as you continue to use your skills, you would be able to get a better grasp of wielding the soul energy within you. With great power comes great responsibility, Master! I thought you have already learned that from all the fictional movies you've watched!]

"Those are fiction!" Daniel shouted.

[Oh, and just to get you motivated, when your first skill gets upgraded to Level 5, you will be allowed to activate a second skill within my arsenal. Till then, work hard, Master! Fighting!]

"Don't encourage me like you have nothing to do with my situation!" Daniel panted from his frustration, furrowing his eyes as he paced around the living room in thought. "Also, if I only need to practice psychokinesis to get more powerful, why is your system called the Assassination System? Shouldn't it be called NEET Chuunibyou Madao System instead?"

[It's because in order for Master to get motivated about retrieving my missing pieces, I devised a mission-reward system so you can get perks each time you completed a mission from me.]

"What kind of perks?"

[Once I get a piece of myself back, I would be able to gain an additional function for you to use. Also, since you might have to fight against other people from now on, I will give you some free points to increase your stats after completing a mission!]

"Wait a minute, you've never said anything about fighting other people!" Daniel cried. "Wasn't I simply responsible for retrieving your pieces? Why the f**k do I have to fight other people as well?"

[Master. Unfortunately, since I am only a fragment of my true self. Haven't you thought about what would happen if another fragment managed to land on a person and gets binded with said person other than yourself?]

"... So you're saying I'm not the only one with a system inside my head?" Daniel asked in a frantic manner.

[I'm afraid so. With the many fragments scattered across the globe, even I don't know how many people I've binded with. However, there's only a single goal that all of my clones and I have right now: to recombine with other fragments. Therefore, a fight is inevitable if you want to retrieve a fragment from another person's soul.]

"Can't we just talk it out? I mean... just get one person to collect all the fragments while the rest of us voluntarily give it away?" Daniel said with a lack of conviction in his eyes.

[Haven't I told you this already? Ripping a fragment out of one's soul results in heavy damage that can cause a person to become a vegetable at best, and death at worst. Therefore, there's only one thing you could do from dying now that I've combined with you.]

"What is it?" Daniel could feel a bad premonition as he asked the question.

[Kill all the other binded persons and end up victorious in the very end.]
