56 New Schedule

It may be due to the fact that Daniel has transferred to the EU Military Academy way after freshmen's orientation in September, since he found that the little people remaining within the cafeteria had formed their own cliques and did not look welcome enough for Daniel to barge in.

Therefore, the only thing he could do was simply order something from the food synthesizer, chosen from Jake's menu, before getting himself seated on one of the many empty dining tables surrounding the place.

Naturally, Daniel chose a table by the windows only to find that there wasn't much too look at outside other than the glaring lights shining from the opposite buildings. Other than that, Daniel could faintly see the figures of students walking about along the main street, but since it was a little dark looking from the inside, the only thing he could manage to see were silouettes.

Nonetheless, Daniel had only come here to fill his stomach, so he didn't really have high expectations for the place to begin with. He used the time while he was eating to connect to the internal servers of the academy through the biochip within his brain to check the schedules for the training areas for the next few days.

Since Daniel could only use his 'Second Chance' ability once a week, there is no need for him to book a private training room for himself that often, but because he was only a freshman, even if he is allocated to the elite class, there are still many training rooms and areas forbidden to him. Therefore, the only training rooms that he could use were the ones opened to everyone and those rooms are obviously almost always fully booked.

The first vacancy that Daniel found is of a small-scale training room located in the training center where he and 666 had their earlier 'session', but the earliest time available is still more than a month away. Of course, Daniel immediately booked the room the second he saw the vacancy, lest the slot is stolen by students during the time he's contemplating. In the meantime though, it seems that he would need to find another way to train himself privately within the military academy.

"It seems that many of the freshman students should have this problem." Daniel thought to himself. "Should I ask 666 where he trains?"

It was then that something dawned upon him. "That's right! How did 666 manage to make an appointment for a simulation room spanning an entire floor! I wasn't even able to book a small room! Did he pull some strings or something? It seems that I still need to ask him a few questions..."

Unfortunately, Daniel's questions were unanswered for the rest of the evening since 666 still have not returned by the time curfew had started. It seems that after 10pm, unless given special permission by the faculty, no students are allowed to walk about outside their dorm building for security reasons.

So when the clock ticked and 10pm arrived, Daniel knew that 666 would not be coming back until at least 5am the next day, when the curfew is lifted.

While Daniel chilled within the dormitory building, the person he had been thinking about actually somehow got himself all the way towards the other end of the continent.

The country he arrived at just in time for dinner time due to the one hour time difference is an island country off the coast of the mainland. With recent advances in maglev technology, he was able to arrive at the capital of this island country by train in less than 2 hours.

While 666 is passing through the channel between the mainland and the island, he tapped on the back of his ears and started a phone call.

"So why am I dispatched to the Isles when there are other candidates within the Intelligence better suited for the mission?" 666 asked towards the other side through mental communication.

"From what we have learned, you 'awakened' can increase in strength through absorbing the meteorite fragments, right?" The person from the other side replied in a nonchalant manner. "Also, since we do not have an objective gauge on how powerful your target is, wouldn't it be better to dispatch another 'awakened' to solve the problem instead of sending a normal agent to their death?"

"I'm sure that no matter how powerful an 'awakened' person is right now, they would not be able to receive a tactical missile and come out of it alive." 666 retorted. "Since the higher-ups have given priority for observing the behavioral patterns of Daniel07777, wouldn't it be better for me to stay back in the EUMA instead and have you dig out the meteorite fragments from the corpse of the new 'awakened' you found so that I can absorb it directly?"

"Now now." The other person gave out a rather coaxing tone, as though he was talking to a disobedient child as he spoke, "You don't really think it's right to receive benefits without working for it, right? I'm sure many people would mind if we just give you something lucrative without you providing something in return."

"So this mission is just to pacify those dissidents?" 666 sneered. "You know assassinating the 'awakened' this time isn't hard so you have me take on this mission just to shut those people up if they were to say I don't 'deserve' such treatment by the government, am I right?"

"As expected of a bio-mechanical unit, you are quite smart!" The person chuckled in a sarcastic manner. "Although Minerva always make the most objective and unbiased commands, people under the AI system aren't the same, so the AI itself needs to do something to placate these hostile elements within the government. That being said, none of this is actually any of your concern as someone like me would be able to handle them for you."

"I hope so," 666 replied. "Because I don't want to be disturbed mid-mission and forced to complete another one ever again."

***

The capital of the Isles is filled with sprawling skyscrapers at least 100-stories high. Amongst these towering skyscrapers, if one were to squint hard enough using a heat-sensitive telescope, they would just be able to make out two faint figures jumping around on the roof of one of these many skyscrapers.

*Clang!*

666 threw a carbon fiber dagger directly towards the chest of his target only to find that the other's body seemed to have deflected the dagger on its own without doing anything. Although the skin of his opponent looked like any other normal person, it seemed to have been reinforced with something even harder, like carbon nanotubes.

However, under the current knowledge of 666, such technology haven't been invented yet. The biomechanical units nowadays all had their interior bodies reinforced but not the exterior since it's much harder to replicate the function of skin using carbon fibers than bone.

While 666 thought of all this in less than a second, he immediately took out a laser gun that looked like a Glock when he knew that projectile weapons and sharp weapons wouldn't work on the target before him. However, after shooting a short burst of laserbeam towards the person, he found that, other than a rather visible black scorch mark on his body, he doesn't seem to be hurt either.

"You should give up, man!" The man taunted and gave a rather nasty smirk at 666, grinning as he continued, "No conventional weapons are going to work on me!"

666 did not speak for a while, leaving the two of them at a stalemate where the both of them would stare at each other without moviong an inch. It was then that 666 finally opened his mouth and spoke in an emotionless tone, "Your supernatural ability is a 'reinforcement' skill isn't it?"

The man opposite 666 looked nonchalant, but he still couldn't help but widen his eyes a little when 666 directly hit the jackpot after they fought for less than one minute.

"How-" The man wanted to ask only to be cut off by 666 again when the latter spoke in a dull tone.

"Judging from your reactions, you can activate your ability multiple times within a day. By manipulating the carbon atoms on your skin, you can reinforce your body for just the second when my weapon or laser beam is just about to impact upon your body before changing back when the damage is fully absorbed by your ability."

After giving 666 a rather complicated look, the man did not want to admit defeat and simply sneered as he said, "Yeah? So what if you know of my ability? It's not gonna be of any use even if you know because either way, you can't beat me!"

After the man spoke his words, 666 raised an eyebrow and gave the man a rather confused gaze. He spoke without an ounce of taunt, "Are you sure about that? There are plenty of ways for me to defeat you even without using my own supernatural ability."
