62 His Team

Daniel thought that he would have quite the hard time getting to know new friends due to his unique situation of transferring in the middle of November. Staying in the dormitory for the next few days simply affirmed his ideas.

However, he is actually quite surprised when 666 told him that after doing his evaluations, he would be placed in a team immediately in order to get first-year students to interact with each other as soon as possible.

"So the reason why nobody approaches me for the entire week is that I haven't been allocated to a team yet?" Daniel asked 666.

"That's right." 666 nodded. "Although I think it's also because that people generally wouldn't approach a stranger for no reason, so you won't really be able to make friends anyways if your strategy is to wait for some student to randomly walk up and start talking to you."

Hearing this, Daniel could not help but look forward to the day that he get to meet his teammates.

"Speaking of, have you been allocated to a team yet?" Daniel asked 666 in curiosity. "I haven't seen you hanging out with anyone other than myself the past few days."

"Since my evaluation results haven't come out yet, I'm still not placed in a team." 666 replied nonchalantly. "Though, I'm a special case since most people would get their results minutes after they complete their evaluations."

It seems that even 666 does not know why his results have been delayed, though Daniel could not help but feel pity for his roommate, seeing that he did not even manage to get a friend even after being in the academy for almost two weeks already.

**

Since Daniel has been staying within the EU Military Academy for the previous few days, the admissions team decided that they might as well have him do his assessment as well before his official first day of school next Monday. Therefore, after conversing with the team through holographic video call, Daniel decided that he would do his assessment on Friday.

Of course, he did not hesitate to ask all the questions he had about the assessment during the video call, which led to their conversation lasting hours before Daniel was content with everything. One has to note that since the EUMA's admissions team wouldn't normally be so courteous to a student to the point of having a thorough individual Q&A session with them for almost half a day. It is only due to Daniel's sensitive identity that the upper brass decided to tailor to the former's needs in any way.

With that being said, Daniel started watching online tutorials in the last minute on the day before his assessment just to try and get a grasp on it since he does not have any experience in military combat until now.

From what Daniel had heard, he would have to first engage in hand-to-hand combat with one of the teachers to assess his level of proficiency, before engaging in combat with beam sabers. Then, Daniel would have to take a test where he would play a real-time strategy game commanding a squad of military personnel in order to achieve a certain objective. Finally, there would be a written and a psychological test taken indoors where Daniel had to answer certain questions. Though, he was not allowed to even be informed of the subject behind the two tests, leaving him slightly speechless as he wouldn't even be able to study for them.

"Do you have to go through all of this when you first transferred here?" Daniel asked 666 when the latter returned from his classes late in the afternoon on the Thursday. Since the call with the admissions office, Daniel had been lounging around within his room, trying to speed-run all the tutorial videos available on the net just so he can get himself slightly more confident about the test to come.

"Yes." 666 nodded. "Though, since I was transferred here directly from the military, the academy already have all of the information needed to assess my combat skills, so the only thing I needed to do was go through their written and psychological test. However, it seems that they are having a hard time giving me a score after seeing my entire military profile, which is why it's taking so long for me to get allocated to a team."

"Oh, for real? That's lucky! I have to go through so many tests that I needed to wake up early in the morning tomorrow and report to the admissions office by 8:30am. I'll only be done by 7pm in the evening, with a 15 minute break at 12pm for lunch." Daniel complained, feeling a little jealous that his rommate doesn't have to go through the same pain as him.

666, with his lack of emotional intelligence, simply nodded without even trying to comfort Daniel, making the entire atmosphere turn awkward within an instant. Feeling like trying to garner sympathy in front of a person whose personality is the equivalent to that of a rock is a useless endeavour, Daniel simply gave a sigh before turning his head back to the holographic panel in front of him as he continue to try and cram all the information into his brain before tomorrow morning.

It is unfortunate that he cannot simply download the information into his biochip through Minerva since it would be considered as cheating by the academy. Though, even if he did, with the lack of combat experience, it still would not help Daniel that much when the day comes.

"Let's just hope I wouldn't do so bad that they would demote me to the normal class before I even have my first day of school." Daniel thought to himself as he continued to lay on his bed, watching the experienced coach within the hologram fight against a training bot.

***

It seems that time flies when you're not having fun since Daniel didn't even manage to finish all the tutorial videos before the time for the assessment have arrived.

Although he had stayed up all night watching videos, Daniel had taken a few caffeine capsules, instantly revitalizing his brain functions to the point where nobody would be able to notice his lack of sleep if they disregard the glaring black circles surrounding his eyes.

Entering the admissions office right on time, someone is already waiting by the entrance just to escort Daniel to his first exam venue -- the training center which he has visited twice already.

Though, unlike the previous two times where he had been fighting within a large underground simulation room, this time the admissions office simply booked a gym-like room without decorations that spanned as large as a badminton court.

Taking a look around, Daniel found that there were nobody within the room except for the teacher already standing there in the middle and the admissions officer, who is just leaving while also closing the door behind him.

The teacher had already noticed the instant Daniel entered and stood up from his meditating pose to observe the new student. The teacher was wearing a tight karate-like uniform that wrapped around his strong chest muscles and abdomen. Although only part of his chest is revealed, Daniel knew that the teacher would be able to instantly push him down if they were to engage in a fight seriously. Therefore, he could only hope that the senior walking up to him would go easy on him when the assessment starts.

"So you're student Daniel 0777?" The teacher asked with a deep and serious tone. He slowly raised his hand and continued, "I'm George. I'll be the one responsible for your assessment today."

Daniel naturally shook Dr. George's strong hand, which made him even surer that there would be no chance that he would be able to beat the teacher before him. Within an instant, Daniel donned on a rather amiable smile and replied in a respectful tone, "Thank you for taking your time to assess me, teacher. And please, simply call me Daniel."

Seeing how docile this new student was, the teacher gave Daniel a nod of acknowledgement beforer asking, "Have you ever been trained in hand-to-hand combat before coming to the academy?"

Daniel then proceeded to tell the teacher about all the different combat styles he had learned on his off time for the past few months before noticing that the teacher seemed to have a frown on his face when he finished talking.

"It's not good to learn that many different sorts of combat techniques before mastering one of them. I would suggest for your combat teacher to give you a more specialized training regiment after our assessment, so in the meantime, you should stop practicing your martial arts for a while until your assigned teacher gives you a reply." The teacher said with a stern look, obviously a little concerned about the student heading off in the wrong direction before even getting his foundation done in martial arts.
