11 Chilly Night-2

The problems across the realm had just come to an end, but Vali here, was just getting started.

Vali who had just let go off the tether that held his mind together, tapped into his divinity voluntarily for the first time ever. And once he did that, he sheathed his blade and allowed the rage to pervade his body, letting his battle instincts take over. In this euphoric state of his, he was a backseat driver who could only give out simple instructions to his body.

He went from a 7ft tall, well-built, medium length silver haired man who had starry blue eyes to an absolute demon whose mere presence spelt 'dread'. By tapping into his divinity, he transformed into an 8ft tall, muscular giant with an excessive vascularity manifesting over his muscles.

His hair had turned glossy red, not dissimilar to diluted fresh blood and his eyes turned abyssal black representing the voids in the universe. His armor struggled for a few seconds, before it magically resized itself to fit his enormous body.

He had a stoic expression on his face, but his eyes cycled through various emotions. It was a mixture of contradictory elements that left behind unsettling expressions on his opponent's faces.

The frost giants who had enough, flooded their innate ice magic into their spears making them thick and sharp enough to resemble smaller tree trunks. They barely held on to them even with their giant arms, and it was obvious that their upgraded weapons came with a loss of control. Not that it bothered them much anyway, they preferred brute forcing their way through their opponents after all.

They had barely finished 'arming' themselves, when a frost giant found himself lifted off the ground by his neck. He looked down flailing his arms, only to find his neck clamped to a muscular arm and Vali's black eyes impassively judging him. He attempted to kick forward with his legs the next second, only to find himself looking at an inverted headless body that seemed to be his own, before everything went dark.

The frost giants who had just stepped forward to help their companion found themselves subconsciously retreating in fear, even managing to almost break free of their bewitchment. They had just watched this brutish demon grab hold of a fellow frost giant's neck, and pop it like a bottle cap. The dead giant's mangled head lay there on the ground beside his headless body, with a confused expression in his face.

Amora who saw all this happen from the best spectating spot, shivered for the first time. Her pupils contracted as she attempted to tear open space, no questions asked. She didn't want to remain here any longer, as it was obvious that she had failed her well-planned assassination. She raged at the unfairness of having to face such a being, even after she had prepared well for almost everything.

'It didn't matter, for she would flee now and bide her time to finish her mission in the future even at the cost of her life', she thought with a maniacal expression on her face. She was soon proven wrong when the space surrounding her wouldn't even ripple after her spell was cast and in return, her magic backlashed.

She was blown a dozen meters away from her location, sustaining severe life threatening injuries. She found herself unable to move, barely getting up on one of her knees as she watched the dreadful scenario in front of her.

Vali who had just started the party by popping open a bottle of champagne, pulled out his remaining butcher knife from his waist. He stepped over the headless body, walking over to cowering frost giants with a freezing cold expression and thoughtful look in his eyes.

He scrutinized them akin to a butcher who carefully selects his meat, after looking through its texture and marbling. It looked like he was contemplating the type of cut he was going to procure from his meat. Don't misunderstand him, from his experience in his previous life he just found it easier to dismember to his enemies when he thought of them as a pieces of steak. He 'totally' wasn't enjoying the process, nor was he a cannibal, most probably.

When they felt certain death approaching, the giants managed to scrounge a tiny bit of courage and fight back. Though it did little to delay the upcoming scenario, since Vali had his knife out, he made quick work of his prey. He thought about the imperfections in his cuts and soon figured that it had to do with the fact that he wasn't used to facing humanoid beings that were completely disproportionate in size when compared to normal humans.

After shutting down his butcher shop, and processing all the meat, he walked towards Amora who was a few dozen meters away, still struggling to stand. He was soon upon a severed giant hand beside his feet, which he positioned and kicked towards the stumbling woman.

The hand shot forward as fast as a bullet, before suddenly pausing as if it had hit a wall, a few meters in the air away from Amora. It soon began to rot, losing all its vitality and eventually disintegrating in a few seconds. Furious at her last ditch sneaky plan being seen through, she shrieked at him,

"How did you see through my cursed trap?!?! If only you had walked further, your lifeforce would have corroded for good and you would be half dead by now. It must those wretched eyes of yours; Oh how I wish to madly gouge them from your skull" she spat viciously at Vali.

She received no reply from him as he coldly gazed at her face, without uttering a single word. It was true that he had carefully probed her surroundings with his eyes before approaching her, but even then, as if he'd approach an enemy with an unknown number of tricks who was on her last stand, knowing that it was the best possible time to take your enemy down with you.

He had seen it all in his past life, short lived humans were a lot more cunning after all. They attempted to squeeze out all their potential with the few dozen years of lifespan they had available and that's what he liked about being a human. But he had to admit, for a young Asgardian, Amora was quite the schemer.

"Who sent you to kill me?" Vali asked, to finally satisfy his curiosity. He would prefer if no one did, otherwise there would be more variables affecting his future plans.

"Who sent me? As if anyone needs to send me to kill you. I should have found a way to kill you when you were a baby. Cursed Odin and Frigga, giving birth to a demon spawn like you. The throne shall belong to my beloved, it will never be your turn to rule this realm" She cursed out loud as she was having a huge meltdown.

'Phew, so it was all her doing' he thought after listening to the first half, only to cringe and try his hardest to prevent his face from twitching when he listened to the other half.

'She did all this, caused so much chaos throughout the entire realm for such a nonsensical reason. Even with all his experience, he found it difficult to comprehend what went through an obsessed woman's head. Based on the past knowledge he had on her character, he knew that she would do anything for Thor.

To watch her go this far, he had to admit that he learnt a new lesson today. Next time he came across an obsessed or mad woman, as long as she was a possible enemy, he would remove her head instantly. But he felt he needed to clear things up to prevent other mad people in the realm from stepping up.

"Thor is the crown prince, and that's final. I'll give it to you simple, so that your tiny mind can comprehend what I'm about to say. Listen carefully, I don't need to RULE the realm to PROTECT it" Vali said with a dull expression on his face.

"My very presence in this realm as a guardian, will make those with nefarious intentions ignore us."

His eyes narrowed, his murderous aura fully unleashed and the magic in his body fluctuating causing the entire region surrounding him to tremble as he finally spoke with determination in his voice,

"Those who seek to become enemies of the realm, would think thrice before they do when they come to know that this is where 'VALI ODINSON' lives. And those that would become our adversaries even after being informed, are those coming knowing that their lives are forfeit."

He walked past her without saying anything else, looking to collect his other blade which he had thrown at Amora at the beginning of the battle. He soon collected it, and when everyone thought the battle was over and least expected it, he launched his weapon after doing a quick 180 which soon found itself embedded in Amora's skull.

He was sure that Odin was watching, because if he wasn't then he was a garbage king and Asgard had survived through several disasters till now solely on luck. He wasn't naive like the other Asgardians to believe that, he was a lot more cunning and experienced to understand the thought process of a ruler who controlled a powerful realm.

As for the reason for the sudden kill, that was simple. He didn't want anyone to interfere, as it was possible that Odin would want to capture and imprison her. Well, he wasn't having any of that bullshit. The best enemies are dead enemies, and he didn't want them escaping from their cells in the future and coming after him with vengeance. He had read and experienced too many similar plotlines.

He knew that his relationship with Thor might become a little estranged because of the kill, but he was sure he'd understand. If the thunder prince didn't, then Vali would have to 'make sure' that he did.

He didn't bother collecting his weapons as they wore out pretty fast when he used them in his current form. He simply discarded his weapons, deactivating his divinity and soon weariness filled his body starting from the depths of his soul. He had returned to his usual 7ft tall state with silver hair.

'It takes a decent toll on my body and soul. Hmm, it should be possible to train it till the cost becomes negligible' he thought as he walked towards Skarf and Frodi, who had arrived earlier and spectated his battle. They walked up to him respectfully with fervour as they helped him remove his armor.

The Einherjar surrounding him were all pumped, filled with devotion in their eyes. They probably wouldn't hesitate to come with him to conquer the 9 realms if he called for them now. 'The declaration I made earlier to Amora must've done the trick' he thought. Even though he did all that knowing Odin was watching, those were his real feelings and they truly resonated with him.

He would not let Odin say, 'Asgard is not a place, it's a people.' in the future. As much as Odin tried to sound philosophical, he only delayed the inevitable. Settling down Asgardians on earth? Foolish.

As a person who knew everything about human history, he knew how many great civilizations of the past were buried with the passage of time. Knowing how greedy humans were, they wouldn't leave the Asgardians alone and soon that 'fake Asgard' on earth would be integrated with the rest of the world. The Asgardian lineage would eventually perish with time. Thor was born to be variable against Ragnarok, but he only managed to delay the inevitable in the end.

Vali would be vastly different as he was born as the god of vengeance, blessed by Asgard and he wouldn't stay behind to only receive the poundings. Once he was done guarding Asgard from Ragnarok, he would go after all of them responsible. He would show them all, that there was a new predator in town.

NOTE:-

Anyway, I've decided to not post any chapters on P@treon as I've decided to not make money from this fic.

I'll be posting all my chapters here on webnovel as I've always found switching websites for a few chapters inconvenient as a reader myself.

Though y'all are free to visit mine, [ P@ treon.com/7rox ]

Won't be posting any advanced chapters there, though you can donate 2 or 3$ and buy me a cup of coffee for the time I've spent writing, if you've enjoyed it. You don't have to if you don't want to though. Peace.
