22 Chapter 20

Divine materials came from gods, but in Ascendance there are two types of gods, those thought of as gods, and real ones.

Real gods were rare, mostly because the requirements were very strict.

The Dawn's Fury was quenched in the tears of the 'god of dawn' which is a nickname for a man named Kyrtin, who once said 'I love the dawn, it is the most beautiful of sights' and then, due to his overwhelming power and eternal youth, became known as the god of dawn.

Despite him not being a real god, the many worshippers he has grants him a false divine power, thus why his tears, blood and sweat contain the divine element.

Due to people like Kyrtin, there existed an organization that hunted false gods, selling their materials on the black market for insane quantities of money.

True divine materials on the other hand, are so rare tbat you'd be lucky to find reference to them in a place like the first realm.

Gods don't normally visit the lower realms, which is why events like the water god's descent earlier was such a big deal.

The only god who can be consistently found in the lower realms was the goddess of bloody war and savage deaths, and materials from her were incompatible with creation and light type items.

True dragons were even rarer, with only six ever having been reliably known to exist in the 132 years Aura had played the game.

Two were the type that Aura would need to make this artifact, one being light attribute and the other creation.

Dragons grew more powerful as they aged, going through five distinct stages, baby, juvenile, adult, ancient, and then true.

Dragons were babies until they reached 100 years of age, juveniles until 1,000, adults until 10,000, ancients until 100,000, and true dragons from then on.

Given how many people hunt dragons to make some money, it only makes sense that few make it to a hundred thousand years of age.

A single true dragon could slaughter a dozen false gods, and stand on equal terms with a god whose domain was similar to their attribute.

True dragons probably weren't as rare if you left humanoid territory, but places like that were only for people at the false god level of strength or higher.

Outside of humanoid territory means places at least a hundred miles from the nearest humanoid settlement, and these areas are filled with terrifying monsters of unfathomable strength.

Without items capable of cutting through domains, exiting humanoid territory was insanity.

Items that could cut through domains were also known as soul slayers, and were basically just items capable of damaging the intangible.

Soul slayers were high level items, and were difficult to use, but weren't rare in the slightest.

Pretty much any old sword could cut through domains, it would just take an insane amount of skill, so blacksmiths made soul slayers as more powerful versions of already existing blueprints.

If a sword is too weak, improve it, is the mentality of blacksmiths, and also the reason why soul slayers are so common, and since soul slayers don't require special materials or elements to make, they grew so ordinary that most don't even recognize them as special.

But being able to use these weapons properly was key, just like how a merchant can't draw out the full strength of his sword, any ordinary swordsman won't be able to utilise the soul slayer's main function.

Aura himself had never reached the level of being able to properly use a soul slayer even after a hundred years.

Admittedly he wasn't really a combat player, but he still trained diligently in the use of his weapons, otherwise, how could he have obtained the Weapon Mastery skill, the skill that is derived when all non-specialized weapon mastery skills reach LV 10.

Aura was always ridiculously strong, in his previous life and now, but due to his playstyle, he never truly mastered any weapon type, remaining a jack of all trades, but master of none.

Now Aura had every incentive to become strong, strong enough to wander freely outside of humanoid territory.

To boldly go where very few had walked before.
