Chapter 5: The Church on Martha Street

"What does this even mean?" Marie said as she took another bite off her hamburger compared to me who hasn't even touched it, none the less looked at it as my concentration to these words.

"I don't know, i'm supposed to be asking you Rie, not the opposite" I said as i banged my head on the table for the umpteenth time in the span of 20 minutes. I don't know if they counted but it didn't matter as the searing pain from doing that started to get to me.

"And this is why you don't do that shit you know that?" Marie then hit me on the back of my head, leaving my headache to burn even more as i wince in pain, subconsciously letting out a hiss. I then looked back to the paper that i wrote as i put it down on the table.

"I can't find the answer for this.." My eyes then were trained onto the food that was left untouched. Leaving me with a boiling disgust as i looked onward to the others at the front of the cafeteria.

"EILENE! Eat for gods sake hurry up. Breaks finishing up and we're supposed to be on time or else might as well say goodbye on those scores you've been holding up on." Marie said as she put her tray on the tray basket the school gave, i then hurriedly ate the food that was on the plate and hurriedly went to the next class i had

Sadly it didn't turn out so well since the universe hates me

I then accidentally ran onto a person, leaving both of us on the floor as he was grunting in pain. I looked over to see that this person was none other than, "Reynolds?!" his freckled face then looked over at me, his glasses on the floor as he grunted in pain. "Paris..?"

"Its Pariese for you, i'm not a country" I said, letting out a laugh as i looked over to the scrambled notebooks and textbooks that were left on the ground as he i saw him flinch a little from the feedback at that bump

"Sorry again Rey..didn't see you there y'know?" I then picked up another textbook, this time it was opened and as i peered in to see the contents i saw that it was

"The same writing as the one i found.." I then hurriedly went over to Reynolds, book in hand as he was confused as to why i looked so determined. I then grabbed him by the shoulders, looked at him straight in the eye and say, "What period do you have this time, hurry and say it because we don't have much time"

"Greek, you have my textbook on your hands-"

"Alright then after that meet you in your class don't go anywhere okay? okay bye i need to go now-" I then zoomed and hurriedly went up to the next class i had just in time as i sat down, my heart racing from that adrenaline moment

-

"So, who you meeting up with now?" Marie said as i looked over to Rey's class as he waved them to get in and quickly. Maries face turned into a shocked but none the less cool face as she went up to Rey with a smug

"Hows it going with you and Andrew?" She said as she twirled another curl on her hand from her shoulder, growing a grin as she sees Andrews ears turn into a bright pink, visible from his pale skin as he brought his hands up and buries his face onto it.

"W-were fine Marie, you don't have to bring that up you know?" Reynold said, his voice stuttering from the conversation starter as i groaned, not wanting the conversation i needed to have disappear i hurriedly changed the topic to the topic i needed to have

"Okay, so Rey do you know what this means" I then gave him a piece of paper as he looked up from his hands, his blush still there as he peered over it. His eyes now concentrated on the foreign words that were given to him

"So, do you know what this means Ray?" He didn't respond, as he still kept his eyes on the words that were displayed on the white sheet, his eyes furrowed as he hummed. "This means 'The church on Martha Street'..?" He said as he took the paper on his hands as he observed it for a while

"Yep, it's right its the church on Martha Street, what do you need it for anyways?-"

"Alright thats all i needed to ask thank you Rey okay i need to go now so yeah g'bye" I hurriedly said as i walked out of the classroom door, though it didn't stop me from taking a breath, thinking of my next move on whats happening

"I guess i could solve more codes..but" I hesitated, thinking of the church at Martha Street and what lies beneath there. I sighed, not wanting to think about anything else and stalling my time here at school. i hurriedly went home.

-

"Lene, the foods ready!" I heard a scream from below as i cleaned up the mess with the homework i just did. I put everything away to go downstairs only to see a stranger, a male to be exact as he smiled at me. I flinched, growing confused as to how he got here and why

"Ah, so this is the 'Lene' you were talking about, never knew she was this big" The man said as he chuckled from his response, my mom joining as well. "It has been several years, after well you know" My mom said, her eyes trained onto this mysterious man who solemnly nodded, letting me know that this man knows what happened

"Uh, who is this man?" I said, trying to break off the sudden solemn silence as the man looked around the house, observing it even. My mom then came up to me as she pulled me to the dining table.

"This is Mr. Adam, the man i am currently interested in"

I then stood silent, appalled that this happened as he stood and bowed to me, as i took a good glance at the man. He had blue, mesmerizing eyes that could rival the likes of the sea, his hair dyed a silver white, as his facial features were sharp like the edges of a sword. He was wearing a suit, indicating that he just came from work and just went here without going home

His briefcase on the side of him, and i could see a watch underneath the sleeves of the black blazer he was wearing. He looked..classy and prim, his body movement professional in a way.

The most shocking thing though, is that of my mother finding a new partner.

To give you a little more context, for the past 7 years since my dad passed, she was never interested or even tried to find another partner, utterly refusing when her friends wanted to set her up for a date or even meet up with a man.

This though, was just unexpected

"Good evening Miss Lene, i am Mr. Adam, pleasure to meet you" He then took my hand and kissed the dorsal of my hand, leaving me speechless as to the gesture. I could feel him grinning on it, as if to mock my silence.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Adams."

-

It's been a long night, but I went through it

After meeting the mysterious man named Mr. Adams, i hurriedly went back to my room, my ideas and thoughts only lingering as to what step to take for tomorrow, as i looked up the church on martha street on my laptop

"Ah, so this is what it looks like.." The church looked abandoned, as if it hasn't been used at all. The roof was missing and all it was left with was the benches and the statue of the crucifixion. With rubble and scrapes of wood around it that were filled with mold

Scratch that, it looks as if everything is filled with mold

I then took a photo and sent it to my phone, my mind set on leaving after school to go to this church that the journal told me about. Though, i still can't wrap around why this church was written down on this journal

"What does it mean.." I say to myself as i hurriedly put the books that are needed for school tomorrow as i ponder over the meaning of what this might unfold. I put my bag down after packing it up as i lay on my bed, thinking of only the church and what it might unfold for me

-

The school bell rang as the classes ended. Jitters started to go through my body as i looked over to the bicycle that was situated on the bicycle outside the building, waiting for me as i hurriedly packed my bags to run outside, only to be stopped by Marie

"Okay Eilene, we need to talk-"

"No time for talking, or else i won't have enough time"

"Enough time for-" I then let go of her hand, hurriedly running to my bicycle as she tried catching up to me. I hit the pedals and started to cycle to the abandoned church on Marthas Street, not thinking whether there would be people following me at all as i pedal to the abandoned church on Marthas Street
