7 Chapter 6 - Written in The Books
We all sit at the table eating in awkward silence. Slowly the time passes and dessert approaches us. I cut a piece of the small lava cake and put it in my mouth. It melts into my taste buds immediately and sends a tingling feeling throughout my body.
"Mmmm~" I let out noise from the pleasure my taste buds are receiving.
"Did you make this Hades?!" I say with my mouth full. He chuckles and nods his head.
"I made up the recipe too." He rubs the back of his head nervously.
"Its soo goood~" I say while shoving more into my mouth.
"I didnt know you were a cook Hades." Rosetta says while eating the cake just as fast.
"There are a lot of things about me not many know." He says while eating his food like a normal god unlike the two of us. Cauliflower eats it silently not saying a word. We all fall back into silence while eating the dessert.
"So, how have you all been?" Hades breaks the silence.
"Oh, ive been good." Rosetta states along with her brother.
"After this cake, good is an understatement for me." I say while finishing the last bite.
"If youd like, there are extra in the kitchen." He says while picking up our plates.
"Can we take them home?!" I say with joy feeling my bones. He smiles nodding his head.
"Don't eat too much though, I made them with wine and you might get a little droopy." I nod my head following him into the kitchen while leaving Rosetta and Cauliflower at the dining table. Hades puts the dishes in the sink to soak and opens his fridge which has a few extra lava cakes. He pulls out half a dozen and places them gently into a bag tying it up once he finishes. He sighs and leans against the counter with his hands in his hair.
Something is wrong with him. I walk up to him and hesitate before placing my hand on his back rubbing up and down. My heart begins to race just a little at the warmth of him against my palm. He jumps up startled and looks down at me.
"Why arent you with the others?" He says nervously while grabbing the bag full of cakes. I grab his arm to pull him back to me before he could leave back to the dining room.
"What's wrong?" I say looking into his deep ocean like eyes. He shakes his head and looks down at our feet.
"Just some extra work I have to finish tonight at my job." He still has bags under his eyes from last night and I doubt he will get any sleep tonight with the sound of how much work he has to do.
"I can uhm, help do some of it. Or at least try." He vigorously shakes his head.
"No I-its-" I cut him off though because I know he will decline.
"I'm coming whether you like it or not. You can't go so many nights not sleeping. Even gods need rest. Admit it, you would like the extra help." A small smile creeps up the lower side of his face.
"Thank you, I owe you two now." I shake my head and point at the lava cakes.
"You already made it up you big loaf." He smiles and walks up to me. He hesitates to hug me then pulls back. So, he does have a soft size.
"S-sorry." He stutters.
"Shut up." I mumble while tugging him over to me. I stand on my toes and wrap my arms around his neck hugging him tightly. I hear him place the bag full of lava cakes on the counter behind me before I feel his hands wrap around my waist hugging me tightly. He leans lower to place his head on mine and lets out a heavy sigh. His body presses against mine as his body heat radiates off him onto me. I feel heat rise throughout my whole body especially my face. I feel his grasp loosen and I grab onto the back of his shirt hugging him tighter. He cant see me like this. . .
"Kore, we have to get back to them." I shake my head pressing in more into his chest.
"Just a little longer. . ." I whisper quietly. He tightens his grasp and I feel him relax. My heart pounds against its cage. What is this. . . I breathe heavily trying to calm my body down before releasing him from the hug.
"Seems like it wasnt just me who needed the hug." He smiles and grabs the bag walking back to the dining room. I gently brush a piece of my hair behind my ear and follow after him. We open the front door for both Rosetta and Cauliflower to exit.
"I'm going to help Hades with a few things so ill be spending tonight here, okay?" Rosetta smiles at me nodding her head then walks up to Hades. Her face expression takes a full 180 from cheerful and happy to serious and terrifying.
"Don't try any funny business Young man!" She says while pulling him down to her eye level. She is really short but scary. Hades nods his head in response.
"I promise." He states. I wave her off goodbye as she hops in the passanger seat of her brother car. She smiles waving back and blows me a kiss. I catch it and place it on my cheek as her brother drives off down the road. Hades grabs a pair of his keys and heads down to a black car.
"What is that?!" I say mesmerized by the piece of machiner.
"The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+. Fastest car invented. Hop in." He opens the door letting me take a seat. He gets in and puts in the key starting the car. Its engine roars alive.
"Buckle up princess." He says while smiling. Buckle up?
"What do you mean?" He chuckles and reaches across my grabbing the belt. He pulls it across me and pushes it into something making a clicking sound.
"Safe and sound." He smiles then buckles himself up.
"Thanks." He shakes his head gently in reply.
"You have a lot to learn." He presses against the gas hardly making the car lunge forward. I grip his arm tightly which lays on the center console. He smiles over at me.
"Its okay, I know how to drive." He slows down a bit and I quickly pull my hand to my lap in embarassment. Why did I have to do that?!
When we get to the front of his building, I realize how much taller it is than the rest of the building. Suddenly, dozens of nymphs surround the car with cameras and microphones asking millions of questions. Their talking overlaps each other making it all inaudible. They back on the door and side of the car. Hades rolls down his window slightly telling them to back away from the car but none listen. He lets out a sigh then grabs his phone. It rings for a mere seconds before someone picks up.
"Send the security out." Hades says into the phone. The lady on the other side is just loud enough that I'm able to make out what she says.
"They are out already, the crowd is just too big." He hangs up and gently presses against the wheel sounding the horn but the crowd just gets more aggressive. Suddenly. . . I see the three girls from my dream. . . Harlow, Candace, and Allegro. They nod there heads in unison before dissapearing once again behind the crowd. I'm hallucinating things arent I. . . I feel time slow as my bones begin to feel empowered. My body feels light and I feel my hair lift from my back. Time catches up back to its normal pace and my body only seems more enraged.
"Kore! Whats wrong?!" Hades says while looking at me with wide eyes.
"If they wont move, I will move them." I mumble under my breath before taking in a deep breath. I close my eyes gently feeling coldness shoot through my blood veins and all over my body. My muscles tense up as I feel the power burning at my mind and heart.
"Persephone dont do this. You cant hurt them!" Hades says concerned. He grabs my shoulder forcing me to look at him. His voice and look in his eyes makes me feel at ease.
"I wont hurt them, I promise." Suddenly, my body feels relaxed and my tensed muscles have loosened. I close my eyes once more focusing. I sense the earth beneath the roads and concrete. The power courses through the earth making me feel more at ease. My mind and heart rest quietly. My heartbeats the same as the magic pumping through the earth. I raise my hands and lower them repeatedly and slowly in a swaying motion. I hear the ground crumble at the sides of Hades car. My eyes fly open and I feel them burn slightly as large veins grow from the ground. As the veins stop in there growth, roses bloom at the end. I feel my body drained more than usual and drowsiness fills my eye lids.
"Once those go off, we wont have much time. Get ready." I say while rubbing my eyes and unbuckling my belt. I press my hand on the door getting ready to open it.
"What are they going to do?" Hades says while preparing to run to the door.
"3. . .2. . .1." The middle of the flowers explode letting out large plumes of pink powder.
"Oh and I forgot, hold you breath until you get inside." He pulls part of his jacket over his mouth as people fall to the ground.
"Dont worry, they are just asleep. Now hurry!" I say while shuffling out of his car. I gently tiptoe around people careful not to step on anyone. Just before I reach the staircase to Hades building something grabs a hold on my ankle. No-no-no!
"Hades!" I scream in a whisper. He outstretches his hand for me to grab but as I stretch my hand out to reach his only our fingertips reach.
"I'm gonna run out of time!" Hades shakes his head and kicks off the ground hovering in the air. He grabs my hand and grips my arm with his free hand pulling me free of the person grasp. He pulls me into the sky and suddenly everyone begins sitting up staring at us.
"We need to go, fast." He flies towards the door pulling me right behind. I look behind us to see everyone racing towards us with their cameras and mics ready.
"You just broke a very important rule Persephone." Hades says once were inside of his building.
"What do you mean rule?!"
"No god or goddess can do any harm to mortals."
"I didnt harm them, I just made them fall asleep!"
"The public has a way of twisting gods words! Do you know what can happen now?!"
"No I don't! Ive been trapped in a field my whole life!!!"
"Are you just gonna make an excuse for everything bad you do?! You just cause more trouble for everyone!!!" He did not just say that! I'm here to help HIM!
"Its not an excuse if its the truth!!! I cant learn everything in a day!!!"
"Then try harder, you cant rely solely on your magic to help you through every situation!!! Your only so powerful!" Thats it! I feel my bones rattle while the anger floods my eyes. I feel my hair catch fire and clench my fists.
"LISTEN, I DONT KNOW WHAT THE THREE GUARDIANS OF THE TIME PARADOX OR WHATEVER EXACTLY ARE AND I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THERE INTENTIONS ARE BUT COME TO FIND OUT, IM MEANT TO TAKE CONTROL OF OLYMPUS WITH MY MAGIC!!! IM TRYING MY BEST TO STOP IT BUT ITS ALL I KNOW IS TO USE MY MAGIC!!!" I stumble backwards at the words I had said. fuck. fuck! FUCK! He looks at me with his eyes wide.
"What did you just say Persephone?" He reaches out for my shoulder and I slap his hand away.
"I wont cause anymore trouble for you." I turn my back to him facing the cameras.
"And dont come looking for me, you don't want me so dont act like it." The words I say hurt my heart. If this is what love is, then id rather live without it.
"Kore, please stay." He says while grabbing my wrist. His touch just stings sending a sharp pain through my arm. I feel water form in my eyes and gently pull my wrist back to my side.
"Ill be your wife. . . For the news. I know thats all you want. . . Ill be back. . . just leave me alone for a bit." The words leave scars on my heart. I see his hurt in his face. He tries hidding it but it just makes him look even more helpless.
"T-Thats not t-true Kore." I shake my head.
"Its not what the books say. . ." It wasnt fair. I knew it hurt him. . . it was supposed to. His arms fall limp at his sides. It wasnt just unfair but a lie at that. . . He isnt like what the books at all and ive seen that. But it doesnt change what he said. I push the door open and everyone crowds over me with cameras and microphones in my face. I kneel down touching the floor with my knees and fingertips. I close my eyes gently and let the water in my eyes trickle down my cheeks. I open my eyes again leaping into the air putting full thrust into my legs. As I reach my peak height, I hover in air looking down at everyone watching me in astonishment.
Love isnt anything like the books. . .
I dont know where I'm going but I dont stop heading towards the large fields. This may be the underworld, but they have to have places where no one resides. I land in the middle of a field filled with an assortment of flowers. A few trees stand and I gather beneath the largest one. I curl into a ball to warm my body up. I begin to feel water dripping down onto my body.
"Just what I needed. . ." I climb into the tree laying on a big branch and make some vines that wrap around me to keep me warm and keep me from falling off. Goodnight. . .
