40 Back To Work!

Varun was flabbergasted when Somya told him what she did. He already had an idea that she must have pretended to be his girlfriend, but her way of presenting it made him dumbfounded at her otherworldly solutions finding skill. He really wanted to open her head to check exactly what's inside her brain.

After getting no reply from him for quite some time, Somya's delighted and eager eyes turned into a worried expression, and she asked him, "What's wrong? Did I...caused trouble for you?"

Instead of answering, Varun questioned her, "Why do you make me wear those earbuds?"

"Uhm...because I want you to act naturally. What if you were a bad actor and didn't play your role well after knowing what I said to her! So to stop you from committing any mistakes due to being guilty, I did that," Somya said while looking everywhere but him.

Varun noticed the nervousness in her voice and raised an eyebrow, 'Oh, so Miss Troublemaker knows how to feel anxious! Is she worried about me?' He decided to tease her more and said, "What if I say you added more trouble to me."

"Sorry."

"If a sorry would do, then why do we have police for."

"Then what can I do?" she replied, looking at the windows of the car. Suddenly, the interior of the car had become so much interesting for Somya that she doesn't want to tear her eyes off them.

Varun squeezed her chin to make her look into his eyes and said, "Look here."

Somya flinched at his touch. Her reaction made him smile. He felt her innocent baby face is looking too cute like this. Varun had a sudden urge to pinch her adorably full cheeks, but he was afraid that she would misunderstand him and slap him for it. So he retreated his hands back and cleared his throat.

"You don't need to worry. Everything is fine. And yes, you saved me."

As soon as he said that, Somya and Avi jumped happily, shouting, "YAY!"

Varun frowned at their gesture. 'They even did a high-five. When did they both become so close!?' He crossed his hands in front of his chest and started doing what Somya was doing a few moments ago, staring at the windows.

Avi and Somya saw him throwing a tantrum like an offended child

and they burst into laughter.

Their trip finally ended, and they came back to Jaipur.

Avi paid a visit to Rahul's cabin as soon as he stepped into their office building.

"Sir, I have an urgent matter to report. It's about Varun sir," he said earnestly.

On hearing Varun's name, Rahul raised his head from the files.

Avi was his old trustee. He had helped him many times to keep a check on his workaholic brother. That's why he sent him with Varun on this trip.

"Say it," he asked calmly. His behavior looks nothing like that impatient Rahul who loves to annoy his brother all the time.

Avi reported every change he found in his Boss sincerely. He was only concerned about his Boss, and this isn't backstabbing for him.

Driving, with his Boss and Lady Boss sitting in the back seat of the car, was his most troublesome drive ever. He can swear that he had never eaten so much dog food before in just three days. He was screaming that entire time in his mind. God, only if somebody can block his ears! This sort of flirtatious banter was very torturous, all right?

Rahul had a content smile on his face after listening to his reports. Even if it wasn't his plan to send Varun on this trip, he still felt proud of himself for unknown reasons.

He wanted to pat his back when he heard what Somya did with Jaspreet. He wasn't wrong when he gambled on her. She definitely had the capability to tame his brother. He was about to pat Avi's shoulder when his hand froze mid-air after hearing what he said next.

"We went to the Devadev Temple as well, and we lost our way while returning."

Rahul's eyes widened. He wanted to ask Avi if Varun was alright there or if he did something unusual, but he can't do that as it may raise suspicions. He patiently waited for Avi to finish reporting only to barge into Varun's cabin after it. He was worried about his brother and wanted to check on him if everything is alright.

"Varun, I heard you went to our sacred temple," Rahul asked after closing his office door carefully.

Varun knew what his brother wants to know, so he directly said, "Nothing happened."

"Are you sure? The energy of that temple is something that even dad couldn't face back then. You must have faced some behavioral or physiological changes."

"No, nothing," Varun was still engrossed in his work.

"But why did you went there in the first place? Was it because of that girl...uhm what was her name?" Rahul pretended like he doesn't care about her at all.

Varun was afraid Rahul would blame Somya for it. So, he explained, "I wanted to accompany her there, and I wanted to see the temple as well. It has been so many years since I last visited it."

'As if I can't understand that you're trying to protect Somya. Who am I? A fool?' Rahul smirked inwardly but just let him off.

Somya's engagement date was approaching, so everyone in the Sharma's House was busy planning for it.

Somya still talks to Varun regularly and excitedly tells him about her engagement preparations every day. Varun always replies to her indifferently on the mention of her marriage, but Somya is too lost in her bliss to notice it.
