1 As Dark as Night

Long ago a woman name Wren prayed and begged every-day to the gods to give her a child of her own. Since the day she was married to Mr. Night she longed to have someone made from herself to love. Although she had been married to him for twenty-five years he himself cheated and had five children of his own all because she could not bear him a child.

During this time, that her husband cheated, she couldn't take the pain anymore. She decided to seek out a witch asking her to give her a child of her own. The witch had granted her wish telling her that she would only be given many babies if she abandoned her husband and his illegitimate children. The witch then told her if you can not abandon him and his children you will have three children of your own but the eldest of the three children will grow up without you in a terrible home and will appear in front of you in seventeen years angry and hurt and will steal your other babies. When the clear sky turn as dark as night and lighting strikes the earth you will meet her.

Wren knew she could never leave her husband, she loved him too much so forgetting the words the witch had spoken she headed home even though her heart mourned for children of her own.

Seventeen years had finally passed and Wren had no longer thought of having children. Wren sat quietly in the car seated next to her husband as their family happily chatted about the trip to Paris they're currently taking. She knew she couldn't take part in the conversation so she sat quietly in her seat before staring out the window.

Suddenly, the clear Fall sky began to turn dark as grey clouds soon covered the sky. The once filled streets and roads had now become deserted as everyone hurried into their homes. Only their big red van that carried their family of seven remained on the roads driving in the soon to be storm. The sky began to rumble and boom but her family didn't seem to worry as they turned the music up drowning out all of the sounds coming from outside. Lighting crashed down in the middle of the road causing her husband to stop the van.

They stared at the lighting but were immediately blinded due to a sudden bright light before everything went back to normal. Her husband began to drive again but the car soon came to a halt when they saw a beautiful women standing where the lighting had just struck. Confusion took hold of all of their faces as they watched the woman, who seemed to be a mere teenager, stand still in the rain. Wren stared at the girl with hair as dark as hers and immediately remembered the words of the witch.

Without thinking she rushed towards the girl she believed was her daughter. She had heard her family yelled at her to get back inside the car but she ignored them once she saw the state her daughter was in. She became absolutely heartbroken. The girl wore nothing but a small white rundown dress and was barefooted.

The girl's long black hair was as dark as night itself and completely filthy and matted. She stared into the girls eyes and saw nothing but pain and pure hatred. Tears began to fill Wrens eyes, she could not believe she had caused her own child to feel so much pain.

"I'm so sorry my child," Wren cried falling at her daughter's feet.

The girl stared at Wren before looking back at the car that the others remained seated in before she spoke.

"Mother my name is Aphrodite and I forgive you for choosing them over me but I have come to take what's mine."

Wren stared at her daughter confused until she felt a sharp pain in her stomach causing her to fall flat onto the ground.

Three days later she awoke in a hospital confusion written all over her face. Her husband walked into the room and told her everything that happened that day, even how the doctors said she had been six months pregnant with twins yet they both had died. Wren broke down in tears and cursed the dreadful witch. For she knew it was her daughter Aphrodite who had taken her babies.
