Chapter Two
My days have been chaotic. My mind kept on wondering about this mysterious boy I was going to marry. I was scared of marrying a boy that may look like a beast. Or maybe he was not a beast but a person with a terrible persona. I was just too worried that I kept replaying all kinds of possible scenarios about how this boy may look. Not to mention the thought of marrying a person I never met before. It was to put yourself into the hands of someone you did not know – and who may kidnap you. It was just: I do not know. I may be overthinking, but I was just too scared. It was all a permanent thing that was going to happen, and marriage was a bond between two forever! I mean forever as in forever and FOREVER!
Ok, I may be overthinking. My mind was hurting, and I needed sleep. My nights have been sleepless. I have twisted and turned for days without any other thoughts on my mind; it was all kinds of possible looks of him. The worst was that since I knew about the marriage between him and me, I have not been able to do anything. I knew we studied together, but that was not enough information. I could not search up anything on the school's website or ask my friends because then the news was out, and I wanted to avoid that for at least some time if possible – till it was impossible.
It was 5 pm, and I was in the middle of making myself dinner as I heard multiple knocks on my door. The continuous knocks kept on for an eternity before it stopped for a split second. A second after, I received a message from my cousin Yuan that said: 'Open the door.' As I opened the door, I got Yuan thrown upon me that knocked both of us off. His hand was hanging in the middle of the air to knock, once again, at my door. Unfortunately, it slammed upon my head and gave me a hard knock that hurt.
"What are you doing?" I messaged my head as he stood up and dusted himself off.
"I'm here to tell you that you have dinner tonight." He smiled as I looked dumbfounded at him. Tonight?
When did I promise to have dinner? And with who?
"Kai Xiao… "He replied to me with rolling eyes. He was impatient of me, and he has always been so, but I sure cannot do anything but ask these things. But wait! When did I ask him about this? Because I sure do not remember, I spoke out loud.
"You think out loud again, "he continued as he laid himself on my sofa. "It is sometimes annoying because you do it without realizing it."
He absurdly stopped his complaint and asked me: "Oh, what are you making for dinner."
"None of your business, mister," I told him off with my cooking spoon. Tomato sauce stained my cooking spoon, but it was not the problem.
"Aww, don't be like this to your beloved baby cousin" He made his infamous puppy eyes at me, as I could not help but pinch his cheeks. He was just too cute.
"Don't do that! I'm not an actual baby and my cheeks hurt because of you," He pouted at me as he snatched the cooking spoon from my hand the moment he turned his back toward me.
I could not help but smile at him as I turned my back and headed toward the kitchen. I took out a pair of chopsticks as I boiled my noodles and vegetables. I was going to make spaghetti, but since I was going to have dinner with Kai Xiao, I might make the food for Yuan.
"Hey, lady! Hurry up! The dinner is in an hour, and you have not even dressed yet!" He annoyingly reminded me of the sofa as I breathed out and gave him the pair of chopsticks.
"Then you can boil the noodles and make your food as well." I smiled a sarcastic smile at him. But, unfortunately, my smile did not show any warmness as I got annoyed by his sudden pieces of information. Why could he not just tell it all at once?
"Sure" He took the pair of chopsticks from my hand as he went into the kitchen and made his food. As he did so, I left to change my outfit into something clean and more presentable. I might not like this setup, but I could not disappoint them by not showing up. I adored food - especially when it was free food.
I took my time choosing an outfit, where I eventually decided to wear a loose light blue shirt with white shorts. It was summer, so my clothes were perfect for the weather. Not too cold, not too hot. I let my hair down and applied simple makeup to show the beautiful side of me.
I smiled at my reflection before I grabbed my purse and took my shoes on. I wore sneakers and had my cream purse hung on my right shoulder. I took my shoes on as I called Yuan to look after the house for me. He replied, sure, as I gave out an airy laugh and took my keys.
The moment I closed my door, I felt regretful for not asking the address. Great job, Meng Qi, I thought.
My ride to the restaurant was painful, as I could not contact my mother; I called Yuan to tell me. He laughed at me as he joked that I would never know it from him. When I threatened him with never letting him enter my house, he got scared and eventually told me.
It was not far from my house, so I walked there.
When I arrived at the restaurant, I looked up to check whether I was in the right place. Just at the same time, someone bumped into me and made me stumble a few steps before an arm grabbed me. The scenario happened too quickly for me to realize what was happening before I got pulled back. I landed softly on the chest of someone, and when I looked up, I saw the face of the person who caught me. It was my crush - Kai Kai.
