18 Turned into Zombies

"Are you ready?" Sir Jim asked Veon and he nodded.

"Ready," he said and Sheloah's uncle and Sir Jim exchanged looks. They went in front of the glass door to take away the boxes that blocked the glass door.

The zombies started to bump their bodies on the glass door aggressively and the two adults ran back to where the youngsters were. The glass door shattered and that was when Sheloah's uncle shouted.

"Fire!"

Veon used the gatling gun as the others reflexively covered their ears, muffling the sound of the gun shots. There were a lot of zombies being killed and smoke already started to cloud their surroundings.

The others hid behind a shelf near Veon for cover and watched the scene in front of them. If only they could bring this gatling gun wherever they went, it would really help them clear the way.

After a while, the gatling gun had no more bullets left. Sir Jim suddenly shouted at Veon.

"Take this opportunity to run to the car! We all have to leave! We only have this time!"

They all ran outside the shop. Sheloah's uncle and the others ran to the service car while Veon and Sheloah ran to the other. There were zombies chasing the two parties. Luckily, they had already entered their vehicles. The service car headed towards the supermarket while Veon's quickly left the mall.

Veon drove as fast as he could towards his home. Sheloah hanged on tight as she looked at Veon worriedly. It was evident on his face that he was worried about his parents.

"What time is it," Veon asked and Sheloah looked at her phone.

"Quarter to seven," she answered as Veon banged his fist on the steering wheel with his left hand.

"Shit!"

He drove faster, indifferent about the zombies he bumped along the way. Once they entered the road going towards Veon's house, he slowed down a bit.

"Sorry, Sheloah." She did not say anything. It was okay. She knew that no words can go through him right now. "But thank you… for coming with me," he added and Sheloah smiled slightly.

"I can't leave a friend. I promised you," she said and Veon said nothing, focusing on his drive towards his parents' house.

Sheloah looked outside the window. She was also worried for Veon's parents. They're the only family Veon has. His sisters were not even in the Philippines.

It was really depressing when someone special disappears from a person's life.

They already arrived in front of Veon's house and they noticed that there were not a lot of zombies around. They noticed that the gate and the main door of Veon's house was opened. This made him nervous.

Veon parked the car and he quickly went out. He shot the two zombies in front of their house gate using his pistol then he ran inside of the house, forgetting Sheloah. She didn't mind. She went out of the car and followed him inside the house.

They were in the living room and Sheloah was shocked to see it in a messy state. It was enough for them to know that zombies really had entered their house.

'What about Veon's parents?'

Veon was surprised to see a zombie standing in front of the television.

"Ma, pa! Where are you?"

He shouted and it caught the zombie's attention. Veon shot the zombie three times and he ran upstairs.

"Please answer!"

Veon ran quickly and Sheloah followed. The moment she was already on the second floor, she saw a corridor with open doors. She didn't know which room Veon entered.

'I hope his parents are safe…'

Sheloah walked slowly, nervous. She didn't know which room he entered. She was scared. What if she entered the wrong room and she was ambushed by zombies?

"Veon, where are you?"

Sheloah spoke loudly but there was no answer. She still walked slowly, only taking little peeks in each room.

'Why is Veon's house so big?'

She came to the farthest room and saw a person's shadow. She crept slowly and was relieved to see Veon but her heart ached.

It was her first time seeing Veon in a depressed state.

Sheloah approached him. "Veon." She said his name as she held his shoulder. He didn't answer her.

"Veon?"

She was trying to get his attention but she could not get through. Veon just looked blankly in front of him but it seemed that in just a few moments, he would be breaking down, crying.

Veon walked slowly inside the room and Sheloah followed, worried about him. When they entered, Sheloah's eyes widened as she put her right hand on her mouth, surprised.

His parents…

Turned into zombies.

Sheloah looked at Veon and she held his shoulder. "Veon, we're too late. I'm sorry…"

Veon's eyes were teary-eyed as he stared at his parents in front of him.

"Ma… pa…"

Veon's voice was weak, like it was about to break.

'Of all the people that could be zombies, why my parents?'

The parents that took care of him. The parents that gave him unconditional love and unforgettable memories. Those parents…

Are now gone.
