6 It Just Happened

"Five Scientific Reasons a Zombie Apocalypse Could Happen," Veon read aloud as Sheloah leaned in, bumping Veon's shoulder.

#5. Brain Parasites

They are parasites that turn people into mindless, zombie-like slaves that are fairly common in nature. There's one organism called toxoplasoma gondii that seems to devote its entire existence to being terrifying. Half of the human population here on earth is affected by toxoplasoma and it is shown in studies that they saw a change in a human's personality and behavior, which result into being insane.

When the both of them read this, Sheloah spoke. "So it was caused by a parasite," she said and Jules nodded.

"Toxoplasoma gondii is found worldwide and it is capable of infecting warm-blooded animals," he explained and they were now deep in thought.

Jules said that toxoplasoma can infect warm-blooded animals and it was even worldwide. This was one reason for a zombie apocalypse to happen. It started when a dog bit the guard that was why a change in behavior occurred.

Was it possible that the dog was inflicted with toxoplasoma? Can they conclude that this was the thing that started the zombie apocalypse?

It's too quick to conclude.

Sheloah looked back at the screen and continued reading.

#4. Neurotoxins

There are certain kinds of poison that slow your bodily functions to the point that you'll be considered dead. The poison from a Japanese blowfish can do this. One study proved that this happened. It happened in Haiti, and the word "zombie" came from that country. The guy in the study was a Haitian guy who was declared dead by two doctors and was buried in 1962. They found him wandering around the village eighteen years later. It turned out the local voodoo priests had been using naturally occurring chemicals to basically zombify people and putting them to work on sugar plantation.

"That's kinda weird… for them to use zombies for sugar plantation," Sheloah reacted and Veon spoke.

"But what is this naturally occurring chemicals that they used to make them act like that? They were not attacking humans… but were working instead!" Jules shrugged at Veon, indicating he was not sure either.

"I don't know. It was not stated in the research," Jules just said and they continued reading.

#3. The Real Rage Virus

The Mad Cow Disease is a disease that attacks the cow's spinal cord and brain, turning it into a stumbling, mindless, attacking cow. We, humans, eat meat and when a human takes it in, the disease is now called "Creuzfeldt-Jacob disease.

The symptoms are as follows:

A. Changes in walking

B. Hallucinations

C. Lack of coordination

D. Muscle twitching

E. Myoclonic jerks or seizures

F. Rapidly developing delirium or dementia"

"Now it is a brain disorder," Sheloah said as she scrolled down to see other reasons.

Jules spoke. "Yup. It is a rare disorder and it is usually acquired by old people by the age of 60."

"But this can also be acquired by eating the meat of a mad cow," Veon said and Jules nodded.

#2. Neurogenesis

Stem cells can basically regenerate dead cells. This process is called "neurogenesis" and it is the method by which they can regrow dead brain tissue. They tried this in laboratories by which they injected this stem cells in a dead human's body and they were able to wake up and walk around again… mindless.

"So they can also make zombies by injecting this so called 'stem cells'," Veon said and it got Sheloah thinking.

"But so far, we already got one answer for why we now have zombies. It is reason #5, the brain parasites. Nevertheless, even though we have this clue, we still can't conclude," Sheloah said and Veon nodded at her.

"Let's look at the number one reason." Veon scrolled down to look at the number one reason in the article.

#1. Nanobots

Scientists have already created a nano-cyborg by fusing a tiny silicone chip to a virus. The first thing that they found out is these cyborgs can still operate for up to a month after the death of the host. Notice how scientists went right for zombification, even at this early age. They know where the horror is. According to studies, within a decade, they'll have nanobots that can crawl inside your brain and set up neural connections to replace damaged ones. They are able to review your thoughts. Someday, there will be nanobots in your brain. They are there to keep you functioned even after you die. They can use you, even though you die. But once they have nothing more to do, they will look for another live person. So basically, in order for them to enter one's brain, they will have to bite the person and that's when zombie contamination starts.

This was the number one reason why a zombie apocalypse started but from the things that they have read, they noticed that the number one reason seemed impossible and that the least reason was more possible. Why? Simple answer.

It just happened.
