Tylen laughed.“I love it.And you’d still be safe because all the idiotswould be behind bars.”

“I wouldn’t want you in the audience,then.”Reaching through the bars,I traced the creases at the corners of his mouth.“I never want to see you in a cage.”

His mirth died out,but his eyes continued to burn bright.“And now you know how I feel every time I walk in and see you like this.”

My fingers stayed where they were,barely touching his lower lip.I wanted to kiss him,to taste the sweet heat of his mouth again,but how could I askfor such a privilege when I insisted on keeping us on opposite sides of thebars?With the Regent intent to marry him off,it was doubly selfish of me to yearn for something that would never be mine.

“Thank you for coming to see me tonight,”I said softly,too afraid of speaking more loudly and breaking the spell.
