“Come back in half an hour.I’m expecting a visitor any moment.”

Though Johaf dropped to a knee in acceptance of his dismissal,the look on his face was pure confusion.He’d had no idea about the Regent’s plans.

The Regent sighed once the conservatory door closed behind Johaf.“Eat,Dek.There will be no need to play when my guest arrives.”

After washing my hands and face,I settled with my meal in the far end of mycage,the better to see the breadth of the conservatory while still giving the Regent privacy for his upcoming meeting.When a knock came at the door,he actually rose to answer it himself,a path I tracked out of the corner of my eye with more than a little curiosity.

He opened to Dourack Merodine.

As Dourack sank to a knee,I snapped my attention back to the fruit on my plate.Of all the people the Regent could’ve met,Dourack would have been the last I’d guessed.

“Good morning,your Eminence.”
