10 Chapter 10: Escaping Into the Night

Geo slowly walked towards the bathroom,

hoping he could find anything that would give them an edge in this situation.

Thinking about it, it would be best to leave the room and head outside, because being as far from their pursuers as possible would be the best option available.

Instead... Geo couldn't hold back the urge of his curiosity,

which was biting away at his conscious.

Putting his back against the wall, looking down at the light which passed the opening underneath the door. Something felt just downright wrong...

Normally if someone was certain of others being in a room there should have been movement, sounds, or even shadows like the silhouettes they had seen in the room before.

But instead... There was just nothing... nothing but light...

Not even the tab which Geo was certain he had not turned off yet, didn't make a sound...

This struck him as odd, he knew something was wrong,

but he couldn't fight the urge to find out what was on the other side any longer.

As he moved in to open the door, slowly the nob began to turn. The woman held Geo back and pulled him behind the cough on the other side of the room, this way they would still be able to see what had occupied the bathroom. The nob kept on turning when suddenly it stopped with an abrupt click.

The sound echoed throughout the room,

only to be broken by the loud creaking of the opening door. The door had been opened completely as Geo and the woman looked inside. They thought long and hard about what they saw...

But couldn't place it... they knew something was there, but they couldn't see...

"Am I going crazy? Something must be there, right?"

Geo asked the woman, as he was unable to see what had occupied the bathroom. The sharp light now flooded the room, creating a clear image of whatever it struck. Dumbfounded by this Geo scratched behind his ear. But when he turned to the woman, he was too late.

Pale like the face of death, she looked like she had seen the impossible. Her face, now white as snow was locked on the entrance of the bathroom.

Unable to look away, Geo couldn't understand what was happening. The woman began to whimper in his presence, cowering in fear as it moved closer.

What the woman had seen, even just for a moment...

Was the true existence of her pursuer. She knew she could not win against it. And at that moment her knees gave in. She finally understood why it had not given away its position, a sound, or even...

Its form. The king wanted to get rid of loose ends...

And she failing her mission meant she had become one... A loose end... The entity approached the woman, who had been frozen in place, unable to move she had become an easy target.

The entity readied its body, as it arose from the ground. The moment it struck for punishment moonlight clashed with its appearance.

Geo couldn't believe his eyes as the horror had now become visible. The horror truly was formless...

Though to explain, the entity looked like it was made of some clear liquid, it had reflective properties.

But Geo had found the one weakness in its cloaking system. The liquid was unable to reflect moonlight!

As it stood there ready to strike claws formed as well as a spine, covered in metal-like bone structures the beast opened its mouth. Shrieking so high, one could say it had become silent.

The light had blinded the beast, it was now or never!

Geo grabbed the woman her arm and jumped out of the window. Jumping down a few floors he quickly caught the woman, she was heavier than he thought as his legs became sleepy because of the impact. This made their escape a bit slower as they both made their way escaping into the night.

The entity quickly realized that it had failed to annihilate them as a high pitched shriek broke all the windows within the barn.

Swiftly it too jumped out of the window and began to follow the trail the both of them had left behind.

Its eyes began glowing red into the night as its aura turned jet black. Spreading it out soon sprouted smaller creatures from the ground. As they looked at their creator the entity gave commands without saying a word as they rushed down the trail before their leader.

Unaware of what was chasing them, Geo knew it was best to keep on going, but because of what happened he couldn't move well enough. They had to hide... until his legs would listen to him again...

Frustrated by this they covered themselves with leaves as Geo slammed both his legs which were still asleep. As he kept pounding them he hoped the blood would begin to circulate so they could get away safely.

But before this happened the smaller creatures had caught up with them...

What were they to do against them? Outnumbered 4 to 1. What was there to do?

The only thing Geo could do were defensive maneuvers because he couldn't move... on the other hand, the woman had lost consciousness because of what she had witnessed... Being in this tight spot wasn't the best of options, but there was nothing he could do... quickly he made a dome of thick roots around them, hoping the creatures would take a while to get through.

The creatures had found them and instantly began to signal their leader, soon after they launched an attack but couldn't get through the roots...

Out of frustration, the creatures began to bite and claw their way through.

Until their leader arrived...

Suddenly they stopped what they were doing,

The world suddenly was devoid of sound.

Nothing could be heard. Without any effort of breaking through the entity looked like it phased through the roots, Geo had not seen the entity before, but because it had to phase in and out of reality it had given away its position.

Shocked Geo looked at what resembled the friend who was captured by the others, instead...

Could this entity be called alive? It was more like a spirit... A ghost of some sort...

Knowing his physical ways did not affect it, Geo sat there frozen... unable to react the entity looked him straight in the eyes, only to take the woman and phase-out of existence...

The creatures weren't there anymore, nor was the entity...

"Wow... What just happened?"

In disbelieve Geo looked around, weakened the barrier so he could look outside it as he could not believe that they were gone, but... it was true...

They all left without a trace into the depths of the night...
