3 The Prompts

'Wait...why is this guy still wearing his helmet?...but where's the energy source.' thought Laplace.

Thinking about it for a while he couldn't find any suitable explanation so, he decided to observe the commander carefully.

When it was almost nightfall he finally discovered something. When Lapace really concentrated and looked at the commander he could see a faint bluish glow with in his body and a faintly visible string extended from that bluish glow which was attached to the helmet which in turn was connected to the communication rune floating above the commanders head.

It seemed like using these rune artifacts perhaps drew energy from the users soul.

Thinking of his hypothesis Laplace thought:

'What if the user took somebody else's soul and used it or maybe found an alternative energy source?'

Laplace halted his thoughts because he could think about it as much as he wanted when he returned to the space. Instead he decided to leave this main communication rune on him despite it consuming a lot of energy. At least until he found another suitable energy source or maybe...a host or something.

After clearing his mind he decided to create a few smaller communication runes which he assumed acted as receivers. While he was doing a few hours passed and it was about 2 A.M.

After finally making about eight receiver sub-runes he connected them to the main communication rune using thin bluish strings similar to the ones down below in the LESVIP army camp.

[Operational runic pattern detected]

[Analyzing….]

About five minutes later Laplace heard another prompt and another translucent screen was displayed in front of him:

[Analysis confirmed]

[Runic system detected]

[Confirmed to be Communication Rune]

[Eight runic sub-receivers detected]

[Would you like to save them in the system database for future use?]

Then two small prompt screens appeared in front of Laplace:

[Yes]-[No]

Laplace was a bit surprised as he didn't expect such a function. Thinking about it there was no harm in saving it in the database so he pressed the yes prompt.

[New file created]

[Name: Runic Systems]

[Number of files: 1]

When Laplace finally thought everything was over he heard another unexpected prompt and another screen appeared in front of him:

[Would you like to spend twenty souls worth of energy and upgrade this runic system

[Yes]-[No]

Laplace of course pressed yes and all of the runes seemed to twist and turn and all of them merged together including the sub-runes of course.

[Runic system upgraded]

[Two new functions added]

[Mass transmission: The host can communicate and influence a large number of people depending upon the amount of energy supplied]

Hearing and reading this Laplace couldn't help but be excited and he was looking forward to the other upgrade.

[Direct transmission: Host can directly interact with only one soul but the energy will be supplied by the opposite party]

Although this upgrade seemed nothing compared to the other one but Lapace was already strapped for souls so to him it was a good deal.

[Would you like to place this system within an optimized environment?]

[Yes]-[No]

Lapace was going to inquire about this 'optimized' environment first but strange movement down below in the battlefield attracted his attention so,he quickly pressed yes. Upon this the now single giant runic system disappeared in thin air.

After that there were no more prompts as if the system detected that its hosts attention was elsewhere....

The mercenary who came back to life due to the strange red hummingbird was staring at the ground. There was no more grass there due to frequent walking.

Everybody around him was asleep except for the patrol guards.

The mercenary had a thin hooked nose,a pair of crimson pupils, he was wearing light armour but oddly there was a red mark on his forehead covered by his helmet.

He averted his gaze from the ground and looked up at the sky muttering:

'When will he appear…?"

'I've waited far too long for that beings appearance.'

.

Marvin was looking at the giant red creature people called RADSTAIN. They had pinkish skin with greenish pupils. Two tusks extended from their foreheads. They were at least 2 meters tall but these were only children not true adults. Actual adult RADSTAINS could reach at least four meters. But their bodies despite their huge stature looked quite lean. Instead of being strange or revolting it formed a unique sense of harmony.

These creatures were captured from a village in the waste. Out of them strangely four of them were quadruplets. Two boys and two girls. There were tied up with thick steel chains. Their eyes were lifeless due to the constant torture.

The fifth RADSTAIN was also a boy but he was bought in the slave market for an overly expensive price. This was also one of the reasons Commander Gordon was hesitant to release them into the battlefield.

'Now...where do I release them?' Thought Marvin as he looked up at the sky. There was no moon today which would be beneficial for them.

Marvin quickly thought up of a few locations which he had scouted beforehand. So, he had the men seperate and transport these RADSTAINS into five different locations.

They released the chains and ran away. At first the RADSTAINS were confused but soon a horseman came in front of each of them and taunted them. As soon as the RADSTAINS got angry and started to chase after them they started to move towards the enemy camp...
