1 Laplace

Laplace had reincarnated for almost a month but he wasn't sure if his present state of existence could accurately be described as 'reincarnation' because he was in a spirit or a soul form right now.

He wasn't even sure if he was a man or a woman or maybe a transgender…? Does he even have a gender?

Who knows?

The reincarnation freaked him out in the beginning but he slowly calmed down and adapted to his current situation quickly. To be honest, what else was he going to do?

Call the police? Or maybe throw a tantrum?

Right now, he was floating in the sky. His body was a hazy bluish silhouette which was transparent.

Below him was a raging battle between two armies. One of the armies on his right had occupied a hill and built their camp on it with approximately 800 soldiers.

On his left was another army with approximately 500 heavy cavalry and 1000 mercenaries or rather light cavalry.

The army on his right belonged to a country called [LESVIP] while the army on his right belonged to a country called [HALTEAR].

The dispute was over some sort of ruins found near the border of both countries which is apparently pretty valuable considering that the two countries were fighting over it.

As to what's so valuable about it Laplace still hasn't found out yet.

The reason Laplace knew this was because he had been devouring the souls of both armies soldiers ever since he came here.

As for whether its moral or not. Laplace didn't care. The thought never even crossed his mind. If he could massacre this entire army, all these men whose loved ones were waiting for them back at home, who were willing to sacrifice their lives for their country...just to live another minute this creature would do it.

The battle had already been going for two months and the HALTEAR's soldiers were running low on rations whereas the LESVIP's were in a similar dilemma.

Considering this Laplace could conclude two results. One they form a truce. Two they hold out and wait for rations and reinforcements.

Either of these results weren't in his self-interests so, he couldn't let either of these two happen. If they form a truce where was he supposed to get his souls and if they decided to hold out until reinforcements then what was he supposed to eat until then.

Laplace needed at least twenty souls per day. If he didn't get those everyday then he would start to fade, literally and whatever happens when he completely disappears he had no intention of finding out.

Why not go down there and try to consume their souls by himself?

Laplace tried multiple times but whenever he tried to go down towards the ground or in any other direction he would get restrained by some type of restraint on his neck almost as if it was a…..leash?!

Whenever he thought of the restraint he couldn't help but curse every single god that came to his mind. Considering he still had a mind.

Because of this leash all he could do was float up in the sky and wait for those bluish transparent blobs which appeared every time somebody got killed. Whenever, he absorbed a soul he would get a random amount of their memories which was also the reason why he knew about all that information about the war despite not being able to communicate and effect anything.

'How pathetic...I can't even move…Oh...another one…'

Even though the war was in a stalemate right now. A few deaths here and there were still happening not that he was complaining.

'What do I do…?'

'What do I do…?'

'What do I do…?' thought Laplace.

No matter what he didn't want to die right after coming back.

He only had two leads. The first one was a circle with an inverted triangle within it. The centre of which had a complex rune similar to a japanese letter.

The entire thing was floating just like him in the middle of the air above the HALTEAR camp defying the laws of physics and nobody seemed to be able to see it. The entire runic structure was attached to the commanders sword.

The second one was present above the LESVIP camp. It was a giant circle with another circle within it and criss crossed with runic patterns. But the strange thing was that other than this main runic structure there were also another 12 smaller ones scattered throughout the entire army.

Laplace could guess that it was probably some sort of communication device.

'Wait…a communication device…hmm…'

While, he was thinking about this there was strange movement within the LESVIP camp...

...

..

.

Gordon, the commander of the mountain bears troops was worried about the armies rations. A week. Thats how long the rations would last. He had to do something.

He was thinking about releasing the [RANSTAINS] but they were uncontrollable...

'Fuck it...they're just slaves anyway even if they die ill just het new ones from the [WASTE] but i have to hold out for reinforecements...the ruins are way too important...'
