9 His Downfall, his own Magic

He was sitting on a bench in his school, he held the small medal of the tournament in his right hand and played with a black orb in his left, a pain orb, like a nullifying orb but for his own magic, ever since he had found his spell he has been having random burst of magic, to a point that three teachers spent a week to put together a pain orb to protect him and the other students, he still hesitated with Julia, not knowing what to do with their relationship. He noticed someone sit down next to him, "Hey Julia."

"Hi, Simeon, how are you?"

"In love."

"Oh, with who?"

"Take a guess, she is sitting on a bench near me."

"So this is the way you come out to me, cute," She moves closer to him, "Why did it take you so long?"

"I don't know, I am still nervous with this, even if, even if I have loved you for a long time already, back before the competition."

"What? And you kept it to yourself for that long?"

"Yeah, I did."

"You should've told me, I thought you would be more of a bold type with me."

"You like that type?"

"I never said that," She looked away nervously, "Well, are you feeling okay?"

"Mr. Smith told you to ask me that?"

"No, well, I am asking for both of us, ever since that outbreak, it scared me and made me worry."

"I have been hearing new spells, and I haven't been able to use my old spells, like I can't cast anything like my Unbroken Will or my Spirit Break, but I have been hearing more and more spells."

"Did you tell this to Mr. Smith?"

"No, but I wrote them down," He plucked a small flower from the ground, "The same voice has been giving me spells, that, that seem random."

"Oh, did you write them down?"

"I did," He handed her a notebook, "The voice said that I will also lead myself to my own death, doing what my magic does best, defending others."

"I'll protect you, don't worry."

"My pain grows, as if I am using spells constantly."

"You have the painkillers, right?"

"Yeah, but I can't use 50 of them, so I have to wait."

"How many have you used already?"

"1 every 4 hours, I haven't slept more than 2 hours at a time, just can't," He sighs before slamming his fist onto his leg, "I can't even distract myself anymore."

"Simeon, don't hurt yourself more, it won't help," She said grabbing his arm, "Please, just try, don't hurt yourself, let's go see Ms. Olivia about those spells you are talking about, maybe she can help you."

"Yeah, maybe I can distract myself too, at least a little," He said gripping the pain orb, "This is barely helping anymore," The orb changed colors and went from a black to a deep purple. He froze and felt himself, "I-I can't feel the pain, what is going on?"

"Are you cold? Do you feel weak?"

"No, I feel completely normal, Julia, I don't know, the orb changed, and, and, and I feel better, what is this? Why is my magic doing this?"

"I don't know, maybe Ms. Olivia can help us, she is the one who studies everyone's magic here, so hopefully, I hope you are fine, this is starting to worry me."

"So you say that you have been hearing spells from a voice that told you about your ultimate spell beforehand?" She shook her head, "I'll go get something for you right now," She got up from her desk and walked over to a locked cupboard, "Do you ever have bursts of magic?"

"No."

"Hmm," She stops at the cupboard, "What level of control did you have on your magic before your whole crisis?"

"Good enough to win the tournament with me, Ms. Olivia."

"Now that puts me at a crossroad," She held two amulets in her hand, "I can either cut all of your magic presence, meaning that if you regain presence you will suffer burst magic or I can reduce it preventing bursts but not preventing whatever is happening up there, now, I have to ask you what you think and I'll have to ask Sir Gillijan what he thinks, he will probably give you the last word, so?"

"I'll take the second option, I still want to be a mage, I still have to get back to classes next week like everyone else, I don't want to make others suffer from what my magic can do."

"Okay, I will ask Sir Gillijan right away," A defense mage walked into the room, "Make sure he doesn't lose control of his magic, nothing else."

"Of course, ma'am," He looked shifty as she closed the door, before he reached into his mage cloak.

"Pain Tome, Clearsight," He blinked then saw the shape of a gun under the man's cloak, "Julia, cover your ears."

"What?"

"Do it," She nodded and covered her ears, "Pain Tome, Deafening Voice," The defense mage fell to his knees and dropped the gun that was in his hands, clutching his ears. Simeon kicked the gun away and pressed his knee on the back of the mage's neck, "You are going to stay here until Ms. Olivia gets here, Mr. Arcane Angel."

"You can't escape him."

"He'll have to come get me before one of you grunts get me, go to hell," Ms. Olivia entered the room and saw what had happened, "Arcane Angels."

"I can tell," She pulled out her phone, "Sir, one of our defense mages tried to kill Simeon, yes, he did, and Arcane Angel, he isn't safe here, I will tell him about it, very well sir, of course sir."
