4 Hiatus Over

Arcane mage Rufius Varis emerged from his chamber, his shoulders weighed down by the burden of weeks spent immersed in his research. Sleep had eluded him, meals forgotten, and even the once-regular intake of vitamins had fallen by the wayside. He was far from flourishing, glowing, or staying within his proverbial lane.

"I require sustenance," he croaked, as he dragged himself across the threshold of his private sanctum. He looked like a worm.

Harold crouched down beside him. "The headmaster requests your presence," he said.

Rufius blinked up at Harold, the weariness evident in his eyes. "Many want my presence," he muttered.

"It's about time you emerged from your illegal hiatus, Rufius," Harold said, his patience wearing thin.

"There is madness to my method, Harold," Rufius countered. "Can't you see? I've undergone a transformation. An improvement. I'm a new man."

"Of course, Rufius," Harold replied with a weary sigh. "Should I carry you to the headmaster's office?"

"Yes, please," Rufius said.
