1 Ch. 1 What The Shit

My eyes opened, I looked around and saw nothing but trees and forests. I grabbed my head, it was pounding. "What the shit just happened?" My memories were groggy, I remembered the store I worked at getting robbed, but after that was a blur. Laying back down I stared at the twin suns in the sky trying to put tog-'Wait, twin suns?'

Sitting upright again I rubbed my eyes, then looked up again, yep there were still twin suns. I closed my eyes, slapped myself, then opened my eyes again and they were still there. "Alright Richard, so this is either an elaborate dream or I'm dead." Off to my right from inside the trees I could hear strange chittering noises. It sounded like someone was speaking, but the sounds were unfamiliar to me.

I called out as I stood up, "Hey is someone there? I don't know where I am." the noises stopped, then a small green creature that looked kind of like a Goblin appeared from behind a tree. I am not too proud to admit I screamed, definitely a higher pitch than I would have liked. It freaked the Goblin out for a second. Yes I knew it was a Goblin, but not because of what it looked like, it had a small indicator above it's head.

It chittered excitedly, then I noticed there was more chittering coming from around it. It smiled as it reached behind it and grabbed a dagger. Turning around I ran as fast as I could, it chased me, but it's short legs couldn't carry it as fast as mine could. My only issue was that it was muscular and looked like it exercised a lot more than I did. I quickly began to tire out, my legs burning and my breath not able to keep up with my pace. I had no idea how far I had run, but I knew I couldn't keep this up forever.

I tripped and fell over an exposed root, the Goblin tripping over me before it could stop. It's dagger fell as it smacked against a rock. I scrambled over to the dagger on hands and knees, grabbing it and holding it up before me, trying to ward off the Goblin. It growled at me and jumped, latching onto my shirt. It punched and kicked at me, each blow felt like I was getting pummeled by a man. So I did the only thing I could think of. I stabbed it, over and over until it fell off me and lay on the ground. I didn't stop stabbing it until I heard a ding in my head.

Before I could think words appeared in my vision.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TURN GOBLIN RUNT INTO A SUMMON CARD?

YES/NO

I was baffled. I had played tons of games and read a bunch of Litrpg novels. There was no way this was real was it? I heard the chittering again and decided I had no other choice. I clicked yes. The Goblin Runt began to shimmer, then burst apart into motes of light that coalesced into a card. The card flew to my right hip where a flip top card deck box sat, being held in place by a leather belt. Both of these things were Dark green in color and looked very intricate and ornate, with runes covering their entire surface.

I saw another Goblin Runt coming out of the tree line, this one holding a club. I gripped the dagger tighter, I couldn't outrun it, so I braced myself for the fight. Then I heard in my mind *Open your deck box and summon your Goblin you idiot*. That shook me for a moment, but it wasn't as weird as it would have been had I not had the gaming experience I had. This was an extremely elaborate dream or I was an Isekai. Either way I would see what this voice was talking about.

I flipped open the lid of my deck box and instantly the Goblin Runt card appeared on top of my right hand. A quick scan showed it had 12 Attack in the top right, 10 defence in the bottom right, 10 Health in the bottom left and cost 1 Mana in the top left. In the top middle it showed it's level as 1. I went to tap it with my finger and it glowed for a moment, then appeared in front of me. It had a new dagger, no idea where it had gotten it from, but I wasn't going to say anything about it.

They faced off for just a moment before they charged at each other. Every time they hit each other, trading blows as they did, 2 health was knocked off. My Goblin was going to die soon, so I rushed forward and stabbed the enemy Goblin twice before it fell to the ground dead. The same message as before appeared without the level up and bonus point. However alongside this message a new one popped up.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TURN GOBLIN RUNT INTO A SUMMON CARD?

YES/NO

I grinned and pressed yes again, the Goblin Runt turning into a card and flying into his deck box. I touched my other Goblin and willed it to unsummon. *Alright mysterious voice, there are more Goblins coming so I need to know what is going on and quick* as soon as I said that the world froze, no sound, no movement, even the wind was dead.

An older man appeared before me, wearing what looked like a bathrobe "Somehow I knew you wouldn't remember. Alright so here's the deal. You died, you were shot when your store was robbed. I being the awesome god I am decided to give you a chance to do more with your life than play video games and write books. So I brought you here, where magic and monsters are real. Everyone can level up, but only 20% of the population has the ability to turn monsters into cards once they defeat them."

I nodded as I listened, the memories flowing back into my mind as he spoke "Now as you have read in most of the litrpg novels you've taken an interest in lately, all you have to do is will your menu, deck or whatever else you want to come up. The only advantage you have over most people is your Card Transmutation ability, because let's be honest here. You're behind the curve and most people your age are already level 10 or higher, those with Card Transmutation are closer to level 50 by now. You have a long way to catch up, but if I read your soul right, I'm sure you'll do fine. Now each of the stats will be explained when you examine them in your menu. Your monsters level up as you do, however what sets you apart from monsters is your access to feats. These are obtained at every 5th level." he stopped for a moment, tapping his chin "I think that's everything. Alright then, I'll give you a minute to look over your stats, once you're done time will resume. Don't waste this chance." he said then disappeared.

I quickly opened my menu

Focusing on each stat I was able to bring up its description

Attack is a representation of a person's ability to inflict damage, must overcome Defence to inflict Health point damage.

Defence is a representation of a person's ability to defend against attacks. If a person's defence is higher than the attack of his opponent no damage will be received.

Health is a representation of a person's ability to take damage. Every point of Attack one has over Defence of their opponent inflicts one point of health damage per point.

Mana is a representation of available mana a person has to summon spells and monsters in their repertoire. It regenerates at a rate of LVL per minute. Unsummon a monster to gain back half the Mana cost used in summoning the monster.

Card Transmutation is a special ability given to a select few. allows you to turn any monster you kill into a summoning card, as long as you do not have more than 5 of that same monster type.

Feats are a unique collection of abilities that can add unique buffs or debuffs to their wielders or to their enemies.

Spells are manifestations of Mana that can harm, heal, buff or debuff yourself, allies or enemies. Each has a set cost and can be upgraded through use.

I decided while I had the chance to up my defence with my unspent attribute point before time started again I also upped my first Goblins defence as well.

Then a thought hit me, "Wait, Mr. God guy. What's going to happen to my family?" there was no answer. The thought of my family thinking I was dead troubled me, but it was as if it was a distant thought, the feelings being suppressed. I didn't know if I liked that, but it didn't trouble me as much as it should have. I shook my head to clear my thoughts. There were more Goblins coming and time was going to start again in a moment. I looked at my stats and noticed I had 9 Mana.

When time started up again, I summoned both of my Goblins, waiting for what was to come.

***************

I had three more Goblin Runts added to my deck, the max total I could have. The fight took less than a minute, but as soon as I had dropped another Goblin Runt I summoned one, then another and then finally my last one. There were three more that laid dead on the ground. I was exhausted, the fight having taken a toll on me physically and mentally. I had 1 Mana point remaining, but the good news was now I was level 3 and so were Runts 1 and 2.

I sat down on the ground, my stomach grumbling and throat parched. I needed to find something to eat and drink soon, but had no idea where to go to find civilization. Shaking my head I watched as my Mana slowly refilled. I summoned each of my Goblins, I was putting their and my attribute points into defense so we wouldn't be hurt as easily. I would need to invest in Attack soon, but for now I needed survivability.

As I examined them and let my Mana recharge I realized I couldn't keep calling them Runts, so I decided to name them. The first Runt I named Gobra, he was going to be my strongest Goblin. Runt 2 I named Bash, he still wielded the wooden club and it seemed fitting. Runt 3 had no weapons so I named him Gobtu, after one of my favorite anime characters. Runt 4 I named Wall, his weapon of choice being a pot lid that covered half of his body like a shield and wielded a Wooden club with his right hand. Runt 5 I named Zidane, he wielded two short what looked like Kitchen knives, he was named after one of my favorite game characters.

Once my Mana was once again full I decided it was time to go hunting. I set off with my small army in tow, looking and listening for any signs of animals passing by. "Listen up guys, we need food and water. I don't know if you need to eat, but I do. So keep your ears and eyes open." They all nodded in the affirmative. We walked for probably another ten minutes when Gobra put a hand up. We all stopped and he pointed off to our right with his dagger. It was then that I heard it too. The howling of wolves and a scream of fear from some kind of animal, I couldn't tell what animal it was, but it was cornered.

We rushed in that direction and came upon four wolves lunging and jumping back from an oversized rabbit with antlers on its head. It was wounded bad, but the wolves were sporting a couple of wounds as well from its antlers. "Alright guys, wolf is on the menu tonight. Kill them one at a time and don't let them swarm you." My Goblins nodded and rushed forward. They all attacked the first wolf before it knew what hit it, it didn't die in the first volley of attacks, but they attacked again and it finally gave out.

It was stronger than my Goblins with a 13 attack to start with. It also cost 3 Mana to summon, which wasn't horrible but definitely something to keep an eye out for. With all 6 of my summons charging the remaining wolves, they tried to scatter, but all fell to my summons. I only turned 2 more into Summon Cards, leaving the last to eat. The Jackalope, its name above its head was walking away with a limp, barely able to move without crying in pain. I sighed and had my summons kill it as well, just so I could end its misery.

I clicked yes and was happy and sad at the same time. It cost 4 Mana to summon, but again it was more powerful than my other creatures. I also spent all of our attribute points, bringing us all up to current. It was cool to see all of our stats showing how strong we were getting, although if the God that brought me here was right, i had a long way to go.
