6 So it begins...(pt. 2)

I sighed knowing whose head was at the entrance of the double doors. Both of his hands were holding two cups of coffee, to which I was grateful for. I tilted my head as a sign of acknowledgement at him and murmured my thanks in advance.

Travis handed the first one to Dr. Hemmings then turned towards my direction, giving me a blank look.

We stared at each other for more than half a minute before he sweetly asked, "Yes? Do you need anything, sweetheart? ". He was unbelievably giving me a doe-eyed.

My fingers twitched on its own accord, ready to strangle a particular person who already has a full grin on his face. Of all things, he clearly knew that when it comes to coffee, I am a force to be frightened of. I gave him a look. This bastard kept on pushing all my buttons.

"The coffee. Now. "

"Five dollars. Take it or nada." He said while wiggling his brows.

Annoyed, I threw my left clinical gloves at him and it happily landed straight on his face. Dr. Hemmings on the other hand stayed nonchalant as he took a sip of his coffee. I would have been irritated by our unprofessional behavior if I were him. I inwardly sighed, he was probably used to this type of situation since two years ago. I forced a smile towards the old man, silently telling him how sorry I was.

A gagging sound brought back my attention to Sanders.

" Tatiana, buttercup. You don't have to be gross to show me how you drool for me. A simple five dollar bill will do. "

I purposely ignored his unabashed statement.

" We're still not yet finished with the autopsy, Dr. Hemmings. I'll get back to you later or you can put the results on my table. I still need to get some identification with our Jane Doe here." I said, pertaining to the corpse in front.

I turned to leave and decided to head off to my office. I smiled. Despite the fact that I have a nutjob of a partner, I'm still grateful that I got promoted. Which means I have the benefit of having a spacious office and my very own coffee machine. Not that I haven't had an office in the past, an office with a comfortable couch and a coffee maker per se, is what every employees' cloud nine. I made a stop to the staff's food storage and took a couple of gardenia bread and nuts.

Holding the knob of my office, I was surprised that it was not locked. I haven't entered the room since I went to work this evening . Pretending not to give a damn, I opened the door to its maximum capacity and entered.

The room was not fashionably decorated, but it has a touch of familiarity and sophistication that made me love it on the first sight. The former First Assistant – Sir Maximus sure knows how to combine both the different tastes of the male and female population. Sadly, he chose to go back to London to spend all his retirement days living as a butler of some sort. I still wasn't sure if I heard him right. I guess I just have to admit that one's happiness comes in a very weird manner.

Shrugging, I headed to the mini dining table and put the foods that I stashed earlier. I was going to bring back the coffee machine to life when I noticed a sticky note just above its operating buttons.

Cohen,

U O me 5 bucks. Look behind your coffee maker.

You're welcome bubblegum.

–Your smexy partner.

I suppressed a smile. I may not be the kind of woman that has a patience of a saint for tolerating annoying people , but I know when to appreciate if that asshat of a person knows his boundary and expiate accordingly.

I pushed the coffee machine sideways to make a space for my hand that is now reaching the cup. There was also another sticky note above it.

' P. S Chief wants you in his office ASAP. Something to do with Jane Doe. Go get Mae and the folder. Have to accomplish some work. BRB love. '

I clucked my tongue. Great, if I didn't know him enough, I would've thought that he's off to skip work again and drown in the hands of strippers surrounding him. Unfortunately he might do just that. I stayed for ten more minutes before heading to the conference room where I know Mae would be.

It has only been two days since I got back from work and I'm already missing my nephew. I chuckled remembering what happened after Sanders's phone call.

"I swear you are not going to see Myckel again if you decided to just fly back to Vegas." I jumped back startled by the voice behind me.

Underneath her calm facade, I know Lisa was already fuming mad. I've seen her in this state two years ago and I am not letting the beast in her consume my whole being. I inwardly shivered .

"Ate, you cannot possibly do that to me."

"Oh, I can do whatever I want. And I want you to finish your 48 hours of vacation in this house–with your family. " she calmly insisted.

I bit the inside of my right cheek. But as soon as I blurted the words, "But Chief–"

"–is my Intel." she said, cutting me off from fabricating a half-baked lie. " I'm going to deal with him. And whether he likes it or not, you're staying. Case closed." She stated.

I was left speechless. My sister's capable of anything. Hell, she could even perfectly act the culprit if she wanted to, or play nice like a mad woman. She's the best under-covered asset we have, that even her husband doesn't know about it. But in this case, I know what she's trying to do. I just hope my nephew wouldn't have the curiosity of unveiling his mum's secrets in the near future.

I sighed. " Stop using Myckel as your blackmail pawn. You know Chief will be heartbroken if you tell him that. "

She smiled. "I know. And it'll be fun."

In the end, I stayed and helplessly assisted my sister in her cookery business. But I actually had fun babysitting my kind nephew.
