10 Jane Doe...and the eyes (Ch 3.Part 3)

I hailed a cab and gave some instructions to the driver.I gripped the bag that I was holding out of night habit. I was already feeling drowsy when the cab stopped by the four-storey building where my apartment was located. It was a Victorian era designed building from in and out and would have been mistaken as a Manor house for the Lord, if not for the luxury cars being parked by the Vallet just beside the building's car park. I sighed, if it was not for Uncle Roman and Aunt Claire's insistence, I would have been living in a more mundane apartment.

Stepping inside, I walked my way to the elevator and pressed the second number. I was out in a moment and turned my heel towards the right hallway. I halted my steps when I saw my apartment number. I swiped the card that I took from my bag and entered. Inside was as luxurious as the building's design, although I already donated some of my furniture, I still don't think that it lessened the grandeur of the place. I scanned my apartment for any possible danger. Feeling satisfied, I locked the door and headed straight to my bedroom.

The interior design of my room was entirely different from the Victorian art of the building. There was a touch of mixed Asian and modern east European style from the walls to the now tangled sheets of the bed. Taking off my shoes, I dragged myself towards the adjacent door that lead to my bathroom.

After doing my early morning rituals, I caught myself staring at my reflection. My earth-like eyes was pleading to have its desired rest, which was backed up by the dark crescents underneath them. Even though I was already working for UCIC for five years, my body was having a hard time coping with my monthly change of time schedule. This month, I was assigned to work from twilight to dawn so that I would have much time to investigate some minor cases.

A bummer, actually.

I sighed. I still couldn't grasp the fact that I turned 25 two hours ago. And to say that I was terrified was an understatement. There's some dreaded emotion that I couldn't put out and everytime I want to know what causes it, it automatically made my skin crawl and my mind loses its focus.

I closed my eyes and shrugged. I guess I'm only stressing myself over some irrelevant matters. Brushing my shoulder length black hair, I returned to my bed to be covered by the sheets of oblivion.
