60 The new alliance

Before the first-ever meeting for the circle alliance to begin. The king arrested Lenalee and her whole family. Of course including the duke himself. It was discovered that she is the culprit that bribe the priest to add on with those words. She finally confessed when approach by Amanda herself.

Lenalee wanted to cancel the wedding between Amanda and me. She didn't know that something this drastic would happen. She didn't think that Amanda would be angry as she has the impression that Amanda was forced to get married to me.

Well, she is not wrong, but she didn't know that Amanda and I have got over our emotions with each other and accepted one another without any disagreements. She is probably trying to show her love for Amanda but in a wrong way.

It was unexpected. It is believed that she is one of those women that love another woman. Shana is the one that relays this news to me while Emelia is standing slightly behind me. I am not exactly sure what happened between Shana and Emelia, but they seem to have to be ignoring each other.

Shana usually back away first as it is obvious to know that Emelia is the stronger one. One by one, the members that were invited to attend the circle alliance came in. Emelia is getting frustrated with how these people are late in arriving, we have been waiting for almost an hour, and some of them hasn't even arrived yet.

No matter how much it may seem, things aren't going to get better as the people within the circle alliance are ignoring each other and seems to be doing their own stuff.

"It's late, I apologize on behalf for those that are late, but we are short on time."

Everyone agreed as the speaker is the king himself. I can't believe he would apologize on behalf though. Even though he was the one that chooses this person. I wonder what are they thinking about.

"I believe everyone should know by now that things will get worse if we don't do anything about it. As such, I decided to build this alliance within our powerful people. Ergo, our finance officer will give all of you a brief about the situation on hand."

Ergo, an elder dwarf that is sitting beside the king give out a sigh as he glances at the people around until he notices me.

"Why is he here?"

That is something I would like to know as well. I would rather do my own preparation and not be disturbed by all of you.

A simple question, result in a staring contest. Everyone frown, there are some that recognize me while others don't.

"Who is he?"

"He is partly the reason why we are in this current predicament."

"Your Highness, please rethink about letting such person join the circle alliance."

Shana and Emelia frown but they know that if they voice out their opinions things would get worse. Thus, I should do the honor to help them.

"Are you blaming your king? It's his call get me married with one of his daughters and I wish to add on that the king is the one that pushes the date of the wedding forward."

Even though I honestly think that I have said too much, it is true. Well, that dwarf started it first, so it is not my fault. Their expression of embarrassment to pure anger as they bluntly ignore their mistake.

"How dare you embarrass the king!"

"Your Highness, allow me to punish this man for shaming you!"

I ignored them pesters complain and glance at the king. He is already stressed out from all of the things that are happening at the same time. It sure is annoying to see his very own people that he trusts kept on arguing about such puny little reason.

"Enough! Ergo, when are you going to start?"

"Y-Yes, forgive me for delaying your Highness."

The dwarf glared at me before starting a proposition about the situation at hand. The currency of Gwendal Kingdom is already non-existent outside the kingdom. The rest of the kingdom would not accept their coins anymore.

The other kingdoms also started to melt all of the coins that they have on the Gwendal Kingdom. At the same time, those that are found to be holding on to these coins would be sentenced to jail.

The merchants are banned from coming to our land to do trading the prices of each of the resources are fluctuating. There numerous nobles that find themselves bankrupt as they are forced to trade their goods for food. The price is increasing at a tremendous rate. Commoners are suffering, and most of the housewife is forced to sell their body in order to get her household bits of food sometimes even rotten ones.

Diseases have started to spread, and without the help of the priests, it will result in a massive spread towards everyone within the kingdom. The army couldn't keep up with the rise of the murders and robberies that happen daily in unexpected places.

A noble mansion was ransacked by their own guards because the owner couldn't afford to feed all of their guards. The next day, it is believed that the owner had multiple stab wounds. His wife and daughter were found dead naked and tied up on the bed.

They were **** to death. When the army arrived, there were few guards that were still present. They were still f*cking the dead body of both the wife and the daughter. The room is filled with white liquid that covered most of the dead.

Ergo didn't explain in detail, what the army did to clean the mess he then continues how most of the people went out to the forest either to find their own food or rob others of their life. There are even traces of cannibalism, the previous murderers that supposedly caged had disappears only to be left only with their clothing and bones.

The crisis has even spread to the kingdom army as the soldiers need food not only for themselves but for their family at home. He then closed it off with the fact that he has nothing to do anymore because no matter how much money the kingdom have, it wouldn't solve their problem even a little bit.

It gives me an idea as I could create a new currency and people will use it to exchange with the food that I've been farming with the help of my maids.

I need to speed up the amount of food that we are farming as it has spread that the maids in the kingdom seem to look very healthy and doesn't seem to be hungry. If there are any more delay, the orphanage might be attacked.

I am not so worried about the fact that these people try to ransacked, I am concerned about the aftermath. The population of the kingdom will deplete till only twenty percent. It would be disastrous if the other kingdom attacked at the point in time. I doubt I could defend alone with the help of the demon. The human will sure detest me, and it will allow the people of the kingdom to betray.

Many will hop on the bandwagon, without people how could this be a place to call a kingdom? Might as well call it an abandoned village.

Ergo, sighed to himself before taking a seat.

The king then turns towards the newly appointed mercenary guild leader, Jason. He was initially appointed to replace Emelia as the general of the army due to the fact that the previous leader had disappeared within the day of the news, he decided to turn down the offer. Upon reaching his old work building, most of the guild appointed high-rank members has disappeared. If not for the guild members that are loyal to the guild. He would have also given up on taking the position of the guild leader.

"Greetings everyone, I am the newly appointed guild leader for the mercenary. I intend to point out that there aren't many monsters around our kingdom and for some reason, the monsters that my members have encountered has a unique temperament. These monster are not aggressive at all. It seems that they look upon us as if we are the same kind. Only when attacked they will retaliate if not they would glance and avoid us."

Jason look depressed, he took a deep breath before he continued talking about the issue.

"Furthermore, my members had found trails of blood, after following it we discovered a considerable amount of human bodies and the most surprising about it is that."

"What is it?"

"These human are not from our kingdom. They are the soldiers that were dispatch by the other kingdom. I found a stash of their supply and their weapon. If any of you do not believe it, I have them within my guild store."

My eyes dart towards the king that was keeping quiet despite knowing how these soldiers died. I wonder what he is planning to do about it. It seems he has decided to keep out of it.
