The grey box was closed but not locked. with no symbols or handles it seemed to have been pushed through the dirt when the apocalyptic event happened.

"what is this?" Richard thought inwardly. opening the container the inside was like a weapons crate with protective padding for the content inside. But instead of the much needed weapon's he had hoped for it looked to be four small scanners that were wore like watches and a note. Unfortunately the note was in latin so he couldn't read it. he grabbed the contents but one on each wrist and gave the others to Jason to do the same "how the f**k are watches going to help dick?" f**k you don't call me dick crybaby. i don't know but they seem to be important put them on and lets go to Carroll's. dads place."

On the way to Carroll's Richard held the scanner watch in his hand. Just then they spotted a tiger like animal with large dorsal spike protruding from its spine and sabertooth claws and teeth. It also had blue cracks covering its body. Suddenly the watch vibrated and sent a small beem of red light almost invisible to the naked eye. the tiger like creature was eating the corpse of the neighbors dog. the screen showed stats for the animal.

"Dude did your watch do the same thing?"Richard asked "yeah both of them" previously Richard handed jason two of the watches to hold on to while he held the remaining and the note. Richard checked his other watch but it didn't show stats like the other. "da*n this one is busted should i get rid of it?" " no keep it mabey I can fix it later." replyed Jason.

"Lets try to sneak around it, its busy eating daisy mabey it wont notice us." Jason nodded and followed Richard. as the snuck past it Richard tripped on another box in the ground. The only difference compared to the grey box was location and color this box was black.This sound alerted the beast it whipped its body around and it glared at him with a growl.

Jason face grew pale and Richard pissed himself. Thinking quick Jason grabbed a metal piece of rebarb out of the ground it was part of the pool his dad was planning to build in the yard. As the sabertooth jolted twords Richard Jason appeared in front of him with the rebard like a spear straight into the tigers mouth and out the back of its head instantly killing the creature.

"Holey sh*t dude good save" Richard gave a thumbs up. with a thick bead of sweat droping from his face. "yep now your my slave" jason snickered.

Richard gave a glare "yeah in your dreams dork, lets keep going, da*n i pissed myself" jason muffled his laughter and it came out like a snort. Another mean glare came from richard and he wanted to punch him. "dude if Carroll is alive i fell in water"demanded richard.

" yeah piss water" jason couldn't contain his laughter this time. They continued to walk after pulling the dorsal spikes off the beast. They hadn't seen any more creatures ahead of them so the walk was semi relaxed almost all the way to Carroll's. Suddenly richard realized he hadn't dug up the box in the ground.

"Da*n dude i forgot to check that box back there there might be something to help us in it we go to go back." said richard "um no f**k no im not going back that way, you left it you go get it im pretty sure Carroll's dad is home I want to go lay down....you could just wait till morning."

"whatever dude just let me borrow your rebarb then" "fine but get another one when you come back." jason replyed.

Jason slowly sauntered up carroll's drive way and knocked on the door " Carroll its me jason open up. our house is gone we need somewhere to stay." just then carrolls dad called from the roof shut up boy do you was to attract more of those f**king things" Rifle in his hands. Jason hadn't even noticed him dressed in all black with a WW2 helmet on.

Jason whispered " sorry mister Stine" "where are your parents?" mr stine asked, jason looked down after the question and said nothing. Mr stine realized the blunder and said "im sorry son go to my closet and get changed out of your football gear the door is unlocked. wait one sec though where is your brother going?" jason didn't know how to explain and said well fill you in when he gets back, and went inside without another word. mr stine said nothing else and continued to survey the land.
