3 3. IS IT A BIRD, IS IT A PLANE... NO IT'S THE APOCALYPSE
We reached my apartment and Sophie bid me goodbye before leaving.
"It's time..." I said as I immediately took off the weirdly uncomfortable black dress, changing into a slightly comfortable highwast Jean and loosed top as i scavanged the room for any sharp objects or anything that could be used as a weapon.
After hours of searching, all I could get was a kitchen knife and a large frying pan.
I strapped myself with my new weapons ready for battle.
"Wait... according to those novels I read in my past life, if an apocalypse begins the most priced possession one could get was... food." I said as I immediately took a large backpack that was near my bed.
"I also need some clothes" i said asopened my wardrobe only to find tons of female clothing,
"Not even one trouser and no boxers, only skirts and dresses." I said as I was feeling quite uncomfortable with the underwear I was wearing
"w-what's this." I said as I found a stash of girls underwear.
"Well this is my life now." I said folding some clothes into my bag.
[Remaining time to apocalypse: 30 minutes]
The system reminded me yet again that I was running out of time.
"All I need now is some food." I thought.
I rushed towards the little kitchen, opened the mini fridge and loaded my bag with what ever I could find in the fridge expired or not.
"I know in some cases like this one has to travel light but you can never bring too much food" I was a poor orphan in my past life who had little or no food to eat per day, so seeing something like this was truly mesmerizing.

[The apocalypse has begun]
After receiving the notification from my system, I heard loud screams coming from outside my apartment.
"Damn, i didn't have enough time to execute my plan." I cursed.
*Bang!!* *Bang!!*
The sound of someone banging on my door was heard
"What, a zombie at my apartment?... That's pretty fast" I said readying my frying pan.
I know many of you would say why not use the kitchen knife, but have you ever thought about killing someone, albeit they're all just walking corpse, but they were still people, I can't just start swinging a large kitchen knife at them like I had done it before.
"Kate open the door, please!" I heard a very familiar voice, the only person that had actually talked to me.
*Click!*
I immediately opened the door for Sophie and she ran inside like something was chasing her.
"T-They're outside... Zombies, they're everywhere." Sophie was really scared.
My actual plan was to move alone as it was the best option, but now that she was here,
'I think I can handle one person and also she could be of great use to me, maybe she could carry my large bag.' i thought
"Don't be scared Sophie you've got me to protect you" I said getting in a stance that looked like one of those superhero character.
"Pfft... Hahahahahaha" suddenly Sophie burst into laughter.
"Has the apocalypse somehow affected her brain, or has she been bitten, no matter what I must be ready for anything." I said pointing my frying pan at her
"Hey put that down I'm not the enemy." she said with her hands up
"Then why are you laughing" I asked
"I-it's just that you look like an overprotective mom with your costume"
"Are you insulting my armor, I made this with the finest of materials."
"And those are a frying pan, a large kitchen knife and duck tape" Sophie teased
"They're all I could get my hands on" I said
"You're really funny, but that's not important" Sophie's face changed from playful to a serious one
"You spoke of an apocalypse earlier and now it has happened, and I'm also seeing this weird screen." Sophie said pointing to her face
'system'
"Can't you see it too?" She asked
"No I can't, it's specially designed to guide you, so that means only you can see it." I explained
"Only me? how do you know about it?"
"It's just the only thing that makes sense."
"So that means you also see it?"
"Yeah but mine is different."
"....but... there are zombies out there, how do we survive this." Sophie said
"I've already devised a great plan for our survival, according to all those stories I've read about the apocalypse and zombies attacking, the MC always leads them into the gymnasium, and by my calculations that's place would be crowded by now." I said
"So where do you expect us to go, we can't just stay here and wait for the zombies to eat our brains, if that's really your plan then I'm sorry to tell you that I love being a smart and charming girl with my brains intact." Sophie said brushing her her to the side
"That's not my plan, my plan is to head for the best place, it'd be the least crowded and the best for survival." I said
"And where is that?"
"The cafeteria."
"....That's actually smart.... That's a smart idea, when did you become this smart Kate, I thought the only thing your brains could carry were boys." Sophie teased
"Well I've changed... Literally."
"What are we waiting for let's go, before one of those zombies catch up to us." Sophie said
"Here take this." I threw the large backpack at Sophie
"Ugh... What's all this?"
"There the essential things needed to survive an apocalypse.... Food."
"Food, who brings this much food into an apocalyptic world, don't you watch movies where they travel light and moreover you're a girl, girls don't eat much." Sophie said
"Well those are the movies and this is reality."
"Forget that, where's my own weapon." Sophie said
"Here you go" I tossed the frying pan toward Sophie
"Why this? give me the kitchen knife!" Sophie demanded
"Let me ask you, have you ever killed a person before, why should I give it to you, and moreover it makes me look cooler."
*TSK*
She clicked her tongue
"Fine, can we go now"

We walked out of my apartment heading towards the cafeteria.
"Ahhhhhh!!!"
"Help me!!"
"Somebody save us!!"
"What are those things!"
"Zombies!!!"
Outside my apartment, I could finally see it, strange green coloured zombies walking about tearing people's flesh, people running about aimlessly looking for help or protection. All this sight made my intestines turn, it was truly a horrible sight to behold.
"Let's go, I can't hold it much longer, I don't want to throw up." Sophie said grabbing me by the shoulder
"Hold it in for a little much longer, we'll try to avoid the zombies, and don't make too much noise it'd only attract more zombies."

We managed to escape my apartment without encountering a single zombie, it was all going as planned until
*Grrrrr!!*
It turned out that it was not only the humans that mutated into zombies but animals as well.
A large grey coloured dog was growling at us
"Sophie..."
"Yeah?"
"RUN!"
Immediately after the signal we started sprinting towards our destination with a large dog chasing after us
"Run for your dear life Sophie, run." I shouted leaving Sophie behind.
I had died in my past life because of a girl, this time I was not willing to make that same mistake twice.
"Kate wait up!" Sophie called
Suddenly
"Arghhh!!" I turned to see that Sophie had tripped.
I was going to leave her but I had a heart.
"I can't believe I'm doing this" I turned to face the large dog who was charging towards us
