2 Past (2/2)

The same men and woman who were before in the meeting room were traveling in a single truck. Four of the people were in the front of the truck while Nova and Zach kept watching on the back. The roar of the engine echoed in the night and they drove along a deserted trail.

A man from inside the truck started to complain in a childish manner.

"Are we there yet? When do we get there?"

The man to his right let out a 'tsk' and completely ignored him. The rest of the ride was in silence, they didn't come across any danger and even if they did it would be back in the ground within seconds. Soon they reached a city and they carried on weaving through the streets. They continued driving and made it to some sort of underground bunker.

A woman went to the back of the car and took something out. It was square shaped and looked intimidating.C4. She walked up to the metal shutter and placed it on the shutter while everyone backed away.

*BOOM*

An explosion blasted through the city and caused even the air to shudder. They waited for the smoke to clear and they entered while leaving both Zach and Nova behind to stand guard. Hours passed and not even a mouse could squeak.

Zach began to get worried "I'll go down and check on them, keep guard"

The wind rustled and Zach started walking down into the bunker to check what was happening.

Outside Nova nervously watched as his best friend entered the bunker.

*BANG BANG*

Two gunshots fired and running could be heard up the stairs. Nova heard the clanking of stairs and looked inside the bunker. "Zach?"

*PING*

A gunshot hit just above Nova and he instantly took off. He ran straight to the east and tried to run into the shrouded alleys that were aligned like a labyrinth.

*Squelch*

A bullet hit right into Nova's stomach and at the same time he sidestepped into the alley and escaped his enemy within the complicated alleyways. He used his arm to support him as he leaned on the wall. Nova checked his wound and noticed that the bullet didn't leave. It was still inside.

Nova gave up suddenly. Nobody was coming, they were expected back at nightfall and they wouldn't look for him until then. He would bleed out before then. He pulled off his gas mask and took a deep breath of air. He hadn't inhaled fresh air for over a year. Now his gas mask was off his face was visible.

A single scar led down his cheek and other than that he looked handsome or rather roguish. His face was as pale as snow and his eyes were a deep blue.

Time ticked on, not caring that its very existence was murdering a barely 19-year-old man.

Nova soon began to feel an itching feeling all around his body. He started to speak to himself. "Irritation and itching, the first symptoms of the virus". Nova fell onto the ground and passed out, the level 2 symptoms.

As Nova woke up something wet and scratchy was on his face. He opened his eyes and a dog stood in front of him. Nova looked at the dirt covered dog and took a look at its collar's tag. Nova sputtered out some words "Oh, I remember you. You were the stray who I fed that time."

Nova sat against the wall and pulled some bread out his bag and threw it towards the dog. "Haha, Zach was wrong. You will mourn me, right?" The dog looked innocently at Nova as if it was the one pure thing in the world of evil. He grabbed towards his leg and held the pistol towards his head after spitting up blood and making sure there was ammo inside it.

Nova held the gun in place with his shaky hands and remembered the words he was recruited by "Die for the rest of us". It was a simple line but it carried powerful meaning. Nova repeated that line in his head and closed his eyes.

*Bang*
