Chapter 53 Trust Me I'm Not That Kind
"Who is that?"
Guo Zhongcheng who excitedly welcomed Hua Meili home was floored when he saw the big puppy she brought home.
Eating her mocha-flavored ice cream for the second time, she listened to Gou Zhongcheng who was being like a mother hen.
Being interrogated like this, she felt like she was a little high school girl who had brought her boyfriend home for the very first time.
But instead of her boyfriend being interrogated by her overly protective parents, she was the one being interrogated by her parents instead.
How can a parent possibly ask where she had kidnapped the boy? Or is he underage?
What's more, is that she is totally not to be trusted!
Is she even their daughter?!
Now, she totally felt like a criminal who had tricked an innocent child home.
"Him? His Dao." Hua Meili simply answered then continue eating her ice cream again.
"Hi, I'm Pingjun Dao! Nice to meet you." Pingjun Dao foolishly grinned.
"Zhongcheng Gou."
"Zhongcheng Qingren."
"So, why did you bring him here? Judging by your temper, you won't bring him here without a reason. So, what is it?" Zhongcheng Qingren asked curiously.
Knowing her, she will never bring just anyone.
Hua Meili stared at Zhongcheng Qingren with a face that ask "am I really that unreliable?". She could not believe that they see her as such a person!
Is she really such a person?
She is!
"Reason? My reason is that he is super foolish but also super loyal. From now on, he is one of my people and your comrade. Do be nice to each other."
Guo Zhongcheng and Zhongcheng Qingren look at each other then at her and Pingjun Dao.
They both sighed.
Taking a rest for the day, they had some good sleep.
The next day.
When the clock strikes twelve, Jin Hua along with his team arrived.
She could see that they are somewhat happy and feeling accomplished.
"Mei'er, we finally found some supplies! It's little but it's better than nothing."
Jin Hua proudly showed off the 10 sacks of rice and a box of canned goods.
His face looked like he was asking for a praise.
The word "praise me" was totally written on his face.
"Oh, great. Gege, is really the best! Where did you find it?"
Hua Meili who knows better could only roll her eyes and granted his wish. She praised him from the moon to back earning a bright smile from him.
But looking at the supply they gathered, she was a bit curious about where they got it.
She thought that she had already cleared almost all the stores and markets around the city so where did his brother find those supplies?
"Ah well... we were just lucky yesterday. We were chased by a horde of Mutants yesterday so we hid in a mansion within the city. When we were checking around for any signs of Mutants inside the mansion, we luckily stumble on their food storage where they stock all their supplies." Jin Hua explained feeling happy about his achievements.
"Hmm.. Indeed, you are quite lucky."
'Should I also look for food inside the houses? No, I'll just leave it to some survivors who might be alive and lucky to stumble upon it. Since I empty stores and markets I should not empty houses too.'
"By the way, who is that guy?"
Jin Hua who had long noticed the new face ever since he stepped into the house was bothered about the new guy.
He could not help but point to the direction where Pingjun Dao was happily chatting with Guo Zhongcheng and Zhongcheng Qingren.
The three just clicked when they started talking this morning and are still talking now.
But it is more likely that Guo Zhongcheng click with him knowing that the two had the same personality.
Zhongcheng Qingren on the other hand might have noticed his denseness and idiotic personality of him and deemed that he is no threat at all.
Than taking him as an enemy, wouldn't it be better to become friends?
After all, they would live in one house.
"Are you talking about Pingjun Dao?"
"Is that his name? Well, him, where did you find him anyway?"
"Well, he was wandering outside when I saw him. He doesn't look like a bad person so I let him stay."
Hua Meili lied through her teeth without batting an eye.
It doesn't matter anyway where she picks the 'dog' up. As long as she said the word, he stays.
Listening to her explanation, Jin Hua rubs his forehead in worry.
He thought that his sister had changed a little since the Apocalypse started but he guess that she did not. She was still kind as always.
If it were other people, they would not carelessly pick up a person on the street much less care for them.
More people would mean more work and fewer food portions.
Humans are born selfish.
If it means that they would be at a disadvantage they would never care for anyone even if they drop dead on the ground.
If it were before, where they can die than staining their reputation then they would gladly help anyone anytime and anywhere.
But since it's the Apocalypse, reputation can go die!
It ain't worth shit!
Can reputation make them eat?
Can reputation help them survive?
Fuck no!
So, who needs that "reputation" in face of dying miserably and going hungry?!
Only idiots care!
Jin Hua really felt that he should really take good care of his sister lest she got taken advantage of because of her kindness.
On the other hand, the kind person who can easily be taken advantage of was thinking of one hundred and one ways on how to torture or in her own words develop Pingjun Dao into a fine warrior.
Though an idiot, he got some real skills.
If she can fully develop him to his highest potential then she would have another powerful loyal subordinate in her hands.
"Well, you should still be careful. You don't know him and people nowadays cannot be trusted. Don't trust that Pingjun Dao easily." Jin Hua warned.
"Don't worry, Jin ge. I trust that he is not a bad person. Besides, I have an eye for people who should be trusted or not. I won't be fooled easily. And the way I see it, he is not. So, trust me on this."
Hua Meili pats Jin Hua's head as a form of reassurance and smile at him.
She knew that he was saying so many things because he was worried about her, she can see that.
So than letting his words get into her ear and out the other, she kept his words to her heart.
But than her, he is more fitting of his words.
He trusts other people so easily. He let a snake grow in his own home that would one day bite him back.
"I'll trust you on this one but I don't trust him. Sometimes, you're really just too kind for your own good."
Jin Hua could not help but worry for his sister's future knowing that she had a very kind and soft heart.
It would be bad if she invited a white-eyed wolf home one day.
But, Jin Hua worried too much.
Than Hua Meili leading a white-eyed wolf into her own home, it would be the other leading the sly black sheep into their own home instead.
Thinking that the so-called white sheep was white inside and out, they unknowingly brought disaster to their own home without knowing it.
In short, they dug their own grave.
"Trust me. I'm not that kind."
