2 Chapter Two

I rushed to the window in the living room to peer out onto the city. I could see smoke far in the distance and a huge thunderous cloud above the smoke, I knew that's where they were. I rushed to the coat closet and grabbed my superhero suit from the back. It was chestnut brown and black on the back and light gray on the front just like a Sparrow. It was one piece with long sleeves and holes at the end of each sleeve for my thumbs. There were also two slender slits on the back that went from my shoulder blade height to mid back. They had straps around the ankles for my foot to go into since I wear boots with it. I rushed back to my room, threw on the suit, quickly put on my tight, black, calf height boots, and ran back out into the living room. The boys were already in their suits. Chase's was like mine except without the slits on the back and his was red. He was also wearing special red sneakers that could withstand the friction of him running at supersonic speeds. Trenton's suit was light blue with white seams, and white boots. Chase threw a dark brown, almost black colored mask to me. I quickly put it on, I've worn this mask so many times that I mastered how to put it on without it snagging in my long hair. The boys put their masks on too and we adjusted our earpieces. We rushed out of the door and made a left turn to go up the stairs onto the roof. Chase quickly pushed the door open that led to the roof and we walked out onto the cold metal roof of the apartment complex. It was a tall building and we could see pretty far. The city was glowing from the lights in several skyscrapers around us. The road was empty for the first time in a while. We walked to the corner of the roof and stood up on the brick railing. I brought my right elbow to my mid stomach and winced in pain as I quickly grew on wings on my back. I was used to that pain by now but it still pinched at first. I stood up straight again and looked back up at the boys. Trenton was trying to get a better look of the situation and Chase was just looking at me in disbelief like he's never seen that happen before. Which he has...

"Dont say it," I demanded as I stretched out my wings.

"That will always be the weirdest thing I've ever seen," Chase laughed as he shook his head and peered off at the surrounding city.

"Fair enough," I giggled. I looked off into the city and started to lean over the edge, "You're just jealous that you wont ever be able to do this." I spun around really quickly and fell backwards off the building. I plummeted to the ground at a quick rate of speed. Chase smiled and shook his head at me as I fell. I spun back around just at the right time to catch myself before I hit the ground. I gained some altitude before gliding about 30 feet over the road leading to the smoke. I heard crashing beneath me as I saw Trenton creating and sliding on an ice path on the empty road. He smiled up at me before he continued to created the slick path to slide on. It was melting behind him because the temperature outside was above freezing. I pushed harder upwards because I had been gradually losing altitude. I flew above the tallest skyscraper to get a glimpse of what was going on. I clicked my earpiece on and listened in on everyone as I watched what was going on.

"Ugh," Chase huffed over the earpiece at the same time I saw his red beam launch into a nearby yellow car. He dented the car pretty badly.

"You alright Blaze?" I concerningly asked. He could hear me over the earpiece.

"Yeah I'm fine Sparrow," He responded as he got up and his red beam launched back into the creature. This beast was thirty or forty feet tall. It was greenish blue and had five head that all looked the same. He looked like a science experiment gone wrong.

"Sparrow we need your help down here this thing is to strong for just us," Irisha said into the earpiece as she touched a nearby horse statue. The statue came to life and Irisha jumped on it's back and ran towards the monster. I don't fly into battle unless I'm absolutely needed because I'm not fully comfortable with it yet. I leaned in the direction of the creature and tucked my wings in. The air around me started to whistle as I plummeted down towards the monster. It caught the attention of the beast which made it look up at me with it's middle-most head. Trenton used this to his advantage and shot an icicle into the neck of one of the head that looked up. It flailed a little before it shot the icicle back up and roared at Trenton. It opened up and the inner of the mouth started to glow orange. I dove onto the head pointed at Trenton and shut the mouth quickly. Using my super strength, I kept the mouth shut and the head I was holding started to squeal. It flailed around some more to try to knock me off.

I quickly spoke into the earpiece, "Guys this thing can breathe fire."

"What?" Noah asked.

The leftmost head looked at me and its mouth started to glow orange at me. I covered my body with my wings at the perfect time before the leftmost head shot fire at the middle head. After it finished I punched the middle head in the eye and it screeched out in pain. I flew up to get the attention of the leftmost head who was snapping at me. I flapped my wings a bit to get some of the fire off but they were fireproof so it didnt bother me much. Chase ran by in a flash, jumped off an abandoned supply truck, and punched the leftmost head in the jaw which dislocated it and it whimpered in pain. The head between the middle on and the leftmost one started to growl at Trenton. He took a step back and tried to freeze it. The mouth started to glow and it was growling. Trenton started to build an ice shield to protect himself but didnt finish it in time. His sister, Mariah, jumped infront of him out of nowhere and created a fire wall just in time to save her brother.

"Wildfire, you should be at home resting," Noah concerningly stated.

She looked at us and shrugged her shoulder. She viciously looked at the head that just attacked her brother. The head had a shocked expression as Mariah created a magma sword and Trenton froze it into a strong, long sword. She shot a magma blast at the creature in which it merely slid off the body onto the ground without hurting the creature. "Guys its heatproof, you need to break the skin," Mariah sniffled through the earpiece. She sounded sick still.

"Wow didn't think of that yet," Irisha sarcastically said as she tried to slice the stomach of the creature while riding the stone horse. The creature reached out and smashed the legs of the horse with its tail as it spun around to face Noah. Noah was trying to get enough energy to hit the monster with a lightning bolt. Chase ran over and pushed Noah out of the way when the rightmost head tried to snap at him.

"Winstone I really dont need your attitude," Mariah snapped over the radio as Mariah tried cut one of the heads off.

"I'm just worried about you, you're sick, you shouldn't be out here," Irisha worriedly responded.

"Its just a cold, you guys are acting like I have smallpox or something," Mariah explained, "I'm fine."

"Wildfire don't cut its head-" I stopped halfway as Mariah had already cut half the head off at the neck. Where the head was cut off two more heads grew.

"You knew what this thing was?!" Noah yelled at me over the radio.

I grabbed one of the new heads by the nostril and pulled the neck back to the spine in an attempt to break it. "I had an idea of what it was," I argued.

"Then what is it so we can figure out how to kill it!" Noah yelled back.

"It has hydra-like qualities but it's not a hydra," Mariah said as she took a step back to look at the creature.

"So? How do we kill it when we dont know what it is?" Noah yelled as he launched a lightning bolt at one of the heads.

"We need to kill the lead heads," I loudly shouted back into the radio as I wrested with on of the middle heads.

"Which one is the lead head? How do we do that? When we cut them off they tend to just regrow in pairs," Chase pointed out.

"We need to cut a head off and quickly burn the open wound to seal it," I loudly shouted into the radio.

I grabbed another head by the nostrils and kept it looking up. "Now!" I yelled. Trenton had the sword and sliced the head off clean at the neck. Mariah quickly stepped up and shot molten lava at the wound before a head grew back. The rest of the heads kept fighting us. We were practically falling all over each other as we were trying not to get eaten by this huge monster. We were back down to five heads now. I flew up higher than the monster and tried to get a vantage point to grab another head but they were on to me by now. The head furthest to the right grabbed the neck next to it and ripped the head off. We stood there, shocked that the creature ripped its own head off. Two more heads grew from the neck. Everyone looked at each other for answers and they shrugged their shoulders to signify they had no idea why it ripped its head off.

"Carly please tell me you have an idea," Trenton pleaded over the microphone while still fighting the creature. I leveled onto the ground and covered my face with both hands. I traced my temples and then aggressively and quickly put my hair in a high ponytail.

I sighed and watched the creature's preying strategy. It was overpowering one person at a time using two heads and then it clicked. "Don't let it bite off it's heads!" I urgently yelled as I flew up and dove down to grab another head.

"That was obvious Carly," Noah said as he shot another lightning bolt into the chest of the beast. Mariah looked wide-eyed at the monster; she seemed to realize what I did.

"There are six of us right?" I asked over the earpiece, I already knew the answer but I wanted to give them a chance to figure it out by themselves first.

"Yeah, and?" Trenton said.

We didn't have time for this. I sighed and grabbed two heads by their necks and pulled them back. Trenton ran by and sliced their heads off and Mariah sealed them shut with fire. "It's trying to overpower us with its head, the more heads, the harder it is to fight!" I clarified. A chorus of "oh's" erupted through the earpiece. Chase looked at me and I could tell he was thinking.

I flew up and dove down onto the rightmost head. The impact crushed the head's jaw into the pavement below; bones cracked below me. The creature's head let out a blood-curdling cry in pain as it threw it's head up violently which threw me into a nearby building. I crashed through the window-filled wall and into what looked like an office building filled with cubicles. I landed onto my left arm which was in extreme pain. I heard the creature scream again and it made me flinch because it created a vibration through the building. A small, gentle hand was placed on my shoulder. I looked up to see Irisha who was helping me sit up.

"You alright?" She asked while pointing at my left arm.

I held my left arm in place as I spoke, "It's fractured, I'll call Jocelyn and ask her to come look at it when we finish the job."

She nodded and smiled at me before jumping out of the broken window I flew in from. "Carly did you break another building with your arm?" Noah laughed over the radio.

"Hush," I chuckled through the microphone. I shook my head and laughed at how I've managed to do this more than once.

"This is four times now that we've had to pay for buildings you've crashed into or thrown something into," Trenton chimed into.

"You don't have to pay for jack squat," Mariah laughed.

"Gotta love the FBI for paying for everything for us," Noah added.

There was a big thud that spooked me. I jogged over to the open wall and peered out. The monster was over on its side with the sword's handle just behind the ribcage and all he heads were scattered around it.
