5 Meeting Jeremy

For most of the morning Annabelle awaited his call. Why she was so attracted to him, she did not know. Was it because he stood up for her? He definitely wasn't like other boys. He was kind, and sweet, and...

Stopping her mid-thought the phone rang, Annabelle picked up almost immediately, completely forgetting the count to five rule for calls.

The truth was, not only was Annabelle waiting all morning for the call, Sam was also waiting all morning figuring out what to say and working up the nerve to press call. As it turns out, Sam didn't actually mean to hit Call this time but accidentally did it and figured there was no turning back from there.

"Hey" Sam said through the phone "When do you wanna meet up today? "

"Hmmm... " Annabelle pondered "Meet me at the forest in 15 minutes, Bye! " Then hung up.

So much for that, Sam thought. He felt like such an idiot specifically picking out what to say when she ended the call so briefly. Of course she would never like him...

--------------

About 15 minutes later:

"Oh hey Sam! " Annabelle greeted cheerfully.

"Hey" he responded

"So... what do you want to-"

Annabelle was interrupted by a glowing figure floating through the woods like a ghost. She was completely at a loss for words.

"Do not be afraid, children of the Lord, I have come to guide you in harnessing your newfound powers. " Jeremy assured them

"Who... Who are you? " Sam said, stumbling over his words.

"I am your guardian angel" Jeremy explained.

Annabelle and Sam fell silent, gawking at him. He had such a heavenly presence, which, of course was to be expected as he was an angel.

Sam was the first to break the silence "So does that mean superheroes are real? Are there others with these powers you gave

us? "

Jeremy only chuckled at this mortal. "No of course not. Those are just things humans came up with generations ago. The real story begins in the ancient cultures, like ancient Egypt. They worshipped gods with many powers supposedly able to live forever. These gods controlled elements, and nature, and were the Egyptians explanation as to why things happened. Modern day stories came from the ideas of the Egyptian gods way back when. "

"Well the Egyptians must have gotten the ideas somewhere, so how did they know? " Annabelle said, finally speaking.

"Very good observation, they got it from us. We gave special powers to these Egyptian people. They had potential such as the potential you both posses. But there was no such thing as guardian angels back then, that are supposed to be assigned every time someone is given powers. The power hungry Egyptians started taking over Egypt, ruling people as they saw fit. If the people produced bad crops they would bring storm or natural disaster. They had too many powers that were too powerful. Your powers, are only about a tenth as powerful as theirs, and you can only control on element. I am also here to guide you so you don't make the same mistakes. Eventually the Egyptians wrote stories about them. They wrote them in as gods controlling all of Egypt. That's when the superhero idea really started.

"Wow so how do we use them, can we practice?" Sam asked clearly delighted at the fact he was a real life superhero.

"No let's not think about that" Annabelle said, her face darkening. "I don't want these take them back! " she yelled "I'm just going to hurt someone. We should just keep these powers away from the world. They are much to destructive. "

"I didn't expect you to think like this, young Annabelle. Tell me, what's on your mind?" Jeremy asked her.

"Fire is to... destructive. It hurts people... kills people. One mistake and... " She turned away and put her hand on her face.

"Fire? " Jeremy asked "I gave you the gift of the sea, and Samuel the gift of the son. "

"Well clearly something happened" Sam said stiffly. "I'm not to thrilled about the fact that I have water powers either"

After a couple of minutes of tossing the idea around in his mind, Jeremy replayed the events from last night. Then he realized... "It must be when Annabelle did mouth to mouth with you! "

"She... what? " Sam asked blushing profusely.

"You were dying, what was I supposed to do?" Annabelle replied

"Well then, can't we just change it back? " Sam asked

"I'm afraid not" Jeremy said "You were only able to switch about five seconds after I gave you the powers. Now they have sunk in, you can't remove them, or take them out at all"

"What?! " Sam and Annabelle both yelled at the angel in unison.

"Never... ?" Annabelle asked softly

"I'm afraid not children. Sadly, I must return to the heavens, my energy has run rather low and I can only maintain physical form for little time until I build up my strength. Farewell."

"Wait! " Annabelle called

But it was too late. Jeremy had already vanished. The two were left with nothing to do.
