6 First Hurdle (2)

We both looked at the same time at the movement behind the bushes. I was filled with trepidation wondering what kind of creature and situation will occur. My beating heart could not calm down while my sister held my hand tighter, although it felt long it only took a second for everything to happen and a red-eyed rabbit suddenly jumped out of the bushes.

My sister gave out a hollow laugh while I sighed trying to calm my beating heart. Maybe I was just over thinking things. It was just a split second when a shadow suddenly appeared followed by the red-eyed rabbit.

The size was huge and towering. Its shadowed covered both me and my sister's silhouette. I could not react in time due to the surprise while the big fellow swiped its claw towards me and my sister. My sister who was still grabbing my hand covered my whole body with her body as she did her best to jump out of the way. I could feel the cold sweat running on my back and neck. The claws were so close that some of my sisters' golden locks were cut. When my sister saw the full body of the monster in the shadow she was so surprised and scared at the same time. I could feel her hands were trembling but she still did not let go of me.

"How can a fully matured Black Bear be in the outskirts of the forest." She said this with her trembling voice. It was more of a verification of the situation rather than an explanation to me. I could feel her despair and how a strong girl such as her is so scared at the moment.

I knew that that monster was strong, so strong that even my sister who was so courageous could get frightened. I tried my best to think of a way but my body which was just normal could not do anything at the moment. A 3-year-old can't possibly do anything to a strong and towering monster such as the black bear. It was a hideous monster that has the power to mow down trees with its claws and powerful swipe. Their hind leg though small has enough power to catch up with grey wolves that are known to be fastest in the forests. I knew from then on that we could not outrun this monster.

While I was lost in my own thoughts my sister who was holding my hand suddenly let go. I thought she gave up on the situation that we are currently in but she stood in front of me with her head held up high. Her trembling stopped and her face looked serious.

"Max I want you to run while I bait the Black Bear." She said those words full of confidence with not a hint of doubting herself. I knew she wanted to buy time for me to escape. I wanted to shout no from the top of my lungs but words still not formed from my mouth I could only look at my sisters departing figure. Her back was filled with blue lights that surround her body.

"Argh. Go run now Max don't look back." My sister shouted at me while she faced the Black Bear. I wanted to run but with a tear-stained face I could not move and leave my sister alone to suffer under the Black Bear. No matter what happens I will not leave her alone. I thought to myself, even if I am ordinary I will not leave love ones when they are in trouble.

My sister weaved left to right trying to avoid the swiping motion of the Black Bear. She focused the blue lights to her right hand and punched the Black Bears' stomach with all the power she accumulated but the Black Bears fur was thick and sturdy that the bear did not even feel an itch. My sister tried her best to avoid the incoming swipe but since she just used an attack all she could do was cover her chests with her two arms accumulating blue lights on those areas as a form of protection.

Although she did this she still suffered from the impact and her body was bleeding so is her head. Her beautiful face was now colored in red but her eyes still have a fiery light in them. While she was down she found a rock with a pointed edge to it. It was as big as her head so she held it with both her arms and put blue lights on her hands again. She then runs parallel to the ground so that the bear has less area that he could target.

I was praying in my heart all the time for my sisters' safety. It was all I could do at the time. It seems all I could do on both despairing occasions was to pray and look on since I do not have strength. I was full of despair looking at my sister fighting the bear full of spirit just so she could protect me. She could have run on her own if she was alone but I was a burden to her at this moment. I was choked up with tears thinking of those thoughts.

My sister who was running head on towards the bear full of blue light surrounding her held the rock overhead as if putting all her strength into it and smashed the pointed edge towards the head of the bear. The pointed edge of the rock went straight to the bears' eyes and went deeper in his head with the built up momentum that my sister made. But as if the bear was using his final dying strength he swiped at my sister one last time. My sister devoid of strength from her last attack took the full brunt of the attack head on without being able to defend herself.

Everything looked to be in slow motion.

My sister who was just hit by the bear then looked at me with a gentle smile as if trying to see if I was safe. She then closed her eyes as if she had just accomplished what she was supposed to do then fell to the floor with a thud.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! SISTER!"

My shout was full of despair as I ran with all my strength towards my sister.

I did not notice the bright white light that surrounded my body while I hug my sister's body full of blood and wounds. I did not mind everything, all I could think of was how I can rescue my sister from death's door.

While shouting at the top of my lungs it felt that I was devoid of any energy and strength as I held tightly to my sister's still warm body and started to feel dizzy. There were some rustling noises that were coming towards us but I who was on the verge of fainting tried to look at the incoming people but everything was blurred.

"Please save my sister." That was the last thing I could say before everything turned to darkness.
