79 Another Scent

Max who was enjoying the hug was standing still.

However, he suddenly felt a chill running up his spine. For whatever reason, his body suddenly felt cold, but his body started to sweat.

He swerved his head looking for a place where a gust of air might have entered, but the room had no windows.

While max was busy looking at his surroundings, Verdi slowly stepped back and looked at Max.

Although it was the same look when he saw Verdi, he felt something different which confused Max.

Max tilted his head while trying to spot the difference when he suddenly heard Verdi's soft and cold voice.

"Why do I smell another scent on you?" Her eyes looked clear like before but her words made Max's body flinch.

He was now starting to have cold sweat behind his back and he was thinking what kind of scent Verdi smelled from him. He wanted to smell himself to see if he could know the difference, but the piercing gaze of Verdi made him unable to move and just stare into her eyes.

The air was starting to chill as the atmosphere became deadly silent.

Sfx *tap tap*

Two footsteps were heard then a voice was resounded in the room.

"What about me?" Orville stepped forward as his two hands were open as though asking for a hug.

His face had the same annoying look that Max had been looking at for the last couple of hours, but right now he could only be thankful for this annoying person as the atmosphere change.

The tranquil and calm atmosphere returned as though it followed the changes of Verdi's heart.

Verdi could not help but look at his brother helplessly as she returned to her once majestic and elegant figure.

She took a step back and said in her demure voice, "Welcome back brother. Come in."

Verdi went ahead and walked at the front as the two men followed from behind.

Orville looked at Max and winked while saying softly, "You owe me one."

Max could only look at Orville's back with gratitude as he knew quite well that something might have happened to him if he did not intervene.

Max was thinking to himself, "What did Verdi mean?"

He did not know if it was Lyla's scent or the succubus who attacked him. Although he was curious to know, he was still glad that Orville stopped Verdi as he did not know if he was able to handle the consequences once he finds out.

He followed the two as they entered the inner room.

The inner room looked like a study. Although it was an inner room, the space was still large. There was a bookcase on one corner, a desk with a comfortable chair with some paper and scrolls on top. There were also comfortable chairs and a table on the right side which was used to receive guests, he knew this as he saw Verdi preparing some tea and pastries as she laid them on the table.

Her graceful movements was a sight to behold, Max imagined how she would become really famous in his world if she became an actress. She could portray a Princess or Queen without a problem. He suddenly remembered that Verdi was a real princess.

While Max was lost in his own thoughts Verdi's voice sounded in the room, "Come sit down. I know your journey might have been tiresome but there are some things I would like to clarify."

Orville sat down quietly as he sipped some tea. He might act like a mischievous child while he was together with Max, but he was still a prince with manners that were not lacking while he sips the tea with delicate movements.

Max followed suit and sat down. He picked up the cup of tea, and once he swallowed the content a warm and refreshing feeling spread to his body. The moment it passed through his body, he felt a wondrous effect that was hard to explain. He was sure that the tea was something special.

He took another sip and this time, he tried to savor the feeling. Verdi could see the enjoyment in Max actions while he was drinking the cup of tea.

She too sat down and took a sip of her tea before saying, "The leaves used in the tea were from the World Tree. This is the best ones as they are taken from the highest branches of the World Tree."

Max was confused at this statement as the leaves of the World Tree were humungous.

Verdi giggled at Max's expression as she continued her explanation. "The leaves at the highest parts, although still bigger than the common tea leaves are not that large. The newly sprouted ones are smaller and few in number. Those are the ones that we use as it has the best effects on the body."

"Be glad Max as this kind of tea is not served to just anyone. Even I could only enjoy this once in a while as the supply is only in small amounts. The harvested leaves are not enough for all the elves living in the Elven forest." Orville had a smile on his face but his eyes looked as though he was trying to imply something.
