Do you believe in love at first sight?

*****

Walking down the street, the rain pounding on her umbrella, she hurried to find some sort of shelter. The sky is grey and coated with thundering clouds. The streets are flooding with frigid water and cars zoom past, slashing the legs of passerbyers.

Down the street, in a quaint little coffee shop, sits a man, sipping at a steaming cup of tea. He watches the few people rushing by the great window displaying the café's name and daily specials. And as he watches, be spots a young women standing on the other side.

She turns her head, glancing down the street, hoping no car would drive by. She had spotted the shop as she hurried by and thought she'd stop by and warm her cold bones. Waiting a moment longer, she hurried across the road, stepping in a large puddle and soaking her shoes. Groaning in annoyance, she carefully stepped into the sidewalk and made.her way to the shop's door.

He watched as the girl froze, her shoes darkened with water. She slowly made her way onto the concrete, carefully avoiding any more puddles. Her umbrella hiding her face from view as she walked to the café. Pausing, she lowered the umbrella, her hair falling into her face and closed it before shaking out the water clinging to the plastic.

Sighing in relief, she took a deep breath, and brushing her long dark hair out of her face, pulled the door open. A bell chimed and the man at the register looked up, a warm smile on his face.

"Welcome to Coco's Café, how may I help you?" His smile didn't falter as he spoke; he looked genuinely happy to be serving the costumers. She couldn't help but smile back and stepped up to the counter.

The man leaned back in his chair, watching in curiosity as the woman glanced up at the chalkboard menu on the wall before looking back at the employee and ordering. Her voice was like wind chimes on a sunny day, filled with warmth and happiness, and he knew then that she was unlike anyone he had ever encountered.

The girl patiently waited for her coffee at the counter and couldn't help but feel someone watching her. Pushing her hair behind a ear, she turned slightly and looked around.

The café was small and homely looking. There were a few small, round, wooden tables with two chairs at each one. In the center was a small vase holding a couple yellow and white flowers. Lights hung from the ceiling above the tables and counter, giving off a warm glow and making the atmosphere seem peaceful. Paintings hung on the walls and a few small bookshelves held books and magazines for customers to read as they rested. The floor was hard wood and looked worn but well-kept. Two huge windows adorned the from of the shop, one displaying the name and daily specials, the other holding samples of pastries they sold.

As she took in the room, she spotted a man sitting at a seat by the window and he was looking her way. His eyes held a curious look and his head was tilted as if in confusion.

The man saw her look his way but he couldn't bring himself to look away. Her bright green eyes captured him and he felt entranced. As if he were in a while new world and it was only him and the girl.

The server called her name and she turned away from the grey-eyed man. Picking up her cup she held it with both hands, hoping it'd warm her cold skin. Taking a sip, the hot liquid scorched her tongue and burned her throat, but she didn't mind, her thoughts were only on the man seated behind her.

As if she could hear his thoughts, the girl turned once again and paused before slowly making her way over to his table. Hesitating on the other side, she opened her mouth and asked,

"Do you mind if I join you?"

The man thought there was nothing better in the world then her voice but when he looked up and saw the smile on her face he knew he had been wrong. It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. It lit up her face and captured his mind.

When the man just stared at her, she swallowed nervously, not letting her smile slip. "Excuse me?" She said quietly, hoping to gain his attention.

Snapping out of his trance the man cleared his throat and felt his cheeks flush in embarrassment. "Of-of course. Please, sit."

Her smile widened and she carefully pulled out the chair, and slipped into he seat. Setting her cup down she peaked up at the man and found him already looking at her.

Still embarrassed, he smiled slightly and took a sip of his tea before asking her the question that had been on his mind ever since she stepped into the shop,

"Do you believe in love at first sight?"
