Anna had grown to dread any time spent with her brother over the last year. Especially if her parents weren’t right there with her. Ever since he had gone through puberty, her brother had been vile and abusive. This all came to a turning point the night that he hurt her cat. Once the cuffs were on her, Anna knew her life had gone from was nightmare to another.
A teardrop falls down from her face
Her brother lost that simple race
In they rush at a breakneck pace
Eyes swell shut from the mace
The cuffs are latched down real tight
She really put up quite the fight
In the end it was a fruitless fight
She thinks of that as she steps into the light
Anna always had been a large boned girl and the orange jumpsuit made her gaunt face look pale. She walked slowly to the transport van that would take her to the courthouse. Her lawyer had requested she be present an hour before the trial start time so that he could finish some last minute coaching on how he wanted her to act in the courtroom. She was sore all over her ribs from where the officers had slammed her down against the bed. She had hoped fighting them would delay the trial as she couldn't be taken in if she was in solitary, could she?
The transport was rolling now, bouncing her shoulders off the side of the van. The surly lady sitting across from her had a scowl that clearly communicated to her a "don't talk or move" command. Anna felt tears starting to slip down her face. All of this over her defending herself when her brother snapped for that final time. In that 45 minute ride to the courthouse, Anna relived that day.
