6 The Church Pt 2

The priest chuckled whimsically after seeing the child become nervous.

"Sorry if I scared you little one; At least the baptism worked, "said in a hushed voice

glancing at the man "what is his name and how old is he "

The man stunned and if woken up from a deep sleep nervously replied to the holy man

"Ma...Mason.Sir, he is 3 years old "

The priest nodded in a slow manner while his caretakers nodded like a child in front of his father.

Mason internally shuddered how coincidental the events played out, both being hit by lightning and in the medieval world his name appeared and he inhabited one with such a name.

"Well then Mason my name Farther John, Now then I neglected you two"

He glanced towards the caretakers

"He is healed, I must say it is miraculous he survived such an ordeal, May I get your names"

The women said in a hushed tone "Elizabeth, farther"

The Man said in a more confident but still reverent with his words "Grant, Farther"

The priest then gestured towards Mason

"Sorry for forgetting my manners you must be worried for him, reunite I will wait "

The priest side steeped with benevolent grace.

in reverent steps, the couple went towards Mason lowered themselves to eye height of Mason,

Grant spoke in a more confident tone but with a caring grace to it

"do you remember us son, do not tell me you forgot about use"

Mason replied trying to purposefully mess his silyballs up as he messed up trying to be inconspicuous when the baptism occurred he realised the normal reaction was probably to cry but he was too late while he just sat there like nothing happened.

"P.. a ..pa" glancing towards the women "Mo..ma"

The parents burst out in tears and embraced him, Mason fell into the bosom of the mother and then was placed on her shoulder, Mason faked falling asleep in there embrace to try to dissipate the priest's suspicion. Masons gamble played off with thinking of them as his parents, Though he deducted they were not exactly of high standing due to the lack of the second name so he was happy they cared for him as in he could have been left for dead but they went out of there way to help him.

As if confirming Masons though process the priest chimed in stopping the reunion while Mason slept on the shoulder of his mother.

"As you lack second names your commoners. To ask for money would be barbarism as you seem like you probably spent most of your money trying to get your child here sadly some parents do not have that devotion and the child inevitably dies but anyway lets not get onto such a depressing topic , i ask is you do the same for another now then to repay me ,the daylight is falling and it looks like Little Mason was exhausted during his baptisms ,you better get home ."

The couple said "thank you" reverently in unison

"Enough with the pleasantries, this priest has another request, when Mason is of age bring him to me to see how he is matured"

The coupled bowed and silently walked out ,Mason didn't wake ,He woke up the while still perched on his mothers shoulders, He deduced his mind may have been modelled to a adults level but his body is still weak, he went back to sleep on his mothers shoulder as their carriage rattled along back to the town which he will call home.

After the cart could not be seen anymore a chuckle could be heard from the church, Not one of joyous revelry but something more , sinister.
