16 Race To The Forest

After his farther those words Mason knew there was no going back, no room for doubt, no room for hesitation. Mason glanced towards Grant and as if understanding his son's intentions without exchanging a word.

Both shot off running on the dirt road with great haste as if in competition and in a childish way both seemed to take it as a competition.

The Old Guard chuckled to himself how fun it must be to be a youth and felt sorry for Mason, No kid could go that fast without 'his' hellish training, he abruptly stopped reminiscing and went back to his post, he was exciting what that kid may bring back, experience or if he holds up to his father name ,Maybe a decent chunk of meat and a good drink in the bar with his old friend to celebrate his son.

As Mason sped up he felt his body flow through the air, the heat of his breath, adrenaline in his veins, Exhilaration flowed through him and in this he sped up without a care without a single second to hesitate.E ach step had an elegance and with each stride seemingly started to blur.

Mason was on his fathers tail and he was getting close as if reaching for a goal he wanted to speed up,he wanted to reach his father's side, to at least run at his side once as an equal in one aspect. He thought if only his cells could just eek out some more energy,He knew mitochondria inside the body had limits and so did his cells but he was not content .a burst of heat flowed through him warming him,He was speeding up at an unprecedented rate ,As Mason's legs started to blur his farther noticed in surprise that his son was still capable of reaching such a speed at his age ,even tailing him was a achievement in itself and wholly unusual in reality. It even surpassed himself when he was a child and he knew that ; But his father would not allow himself to lose ,as if a hidden switch was pulled he reached the side of his son.

Mason did not know what was happening but the heat permeated his body and his veins pulsed with energy, making him seemingly go beyond normal limits as if his limits broke temporarily.H e was in a trance thinking of his movements, each step faster than the last, each step with an athletic grace, each step with no wasted movements or energy. Mason as if in a semiconscious state constantly thought of his body, Through respiration, his body was originated , the breaking down glucose energy flowed towards his cells, through mitochondria fuelling his cells as if he was building a mental image.T hrough this, it was as if his tenacity became corporeal and flowed through his body invigorating him to reach new heights .

He couldn't tell how fast he ran nor how much time he has spent running or how close he was to the forest anymore, His vision blurred.

Everything went black

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mason awoke with a rattling headache and a body aching and his veins pulsated in pain. His back was on something and he was perplexed how he got there, All he remembered is that he started to run faster after a heat overcame him.

Grant stood over Mason who was looking down thinking of how will he get rid of his sons daydreaming. His face turned sour at the thought of his son beating him even if he allowed it , He thought he shouldn't get too confident or it would damage his training ,he didn't know how but he knew an unprecedented event happened is his sons understanding in something but that something he didn't know, He wondered if it was something else out of his knowledge but if he didn't know nor did his child probably know.

'You have a good head like your mothers son ' he though to himself.

Opposite to his thoughts his voice was harsh and scolding

"Boy are you going to wake up any time soon son"

Mason looked up to his farther disrupted out of his contemplation and shaking.

"Sorry farther "

Mason looked up to the sky, the light was at its decline, he wasted a few hours unconscious.

Mason stood up and wiped himself down, 2 times in a day he has been covered in mud, 2 bloody too many times. After wiping the dirt off he noticed his back was up against something abrasive, rough and course. He turned around and was amazed.

Thick poles of immense proportion stood before him jutting out of the ground, The immensity of these could only be appreciated up close as seeing it in the distance did not do it justice. This forest had a majesty to it which made Mason Gawk. In his previous world due to pollution and other things most forests of such immensity where wiped out making this sight even more enrapturing.

Grant stood there in silence chuckling at his son's reaction and waiting until he collected himself After all Mason hit his head in the last fall.

A sudden pain ran through Mason as his trail of thought ended, he felt strained as if all of his limbs just went through hell and back, this far surpassed what he believes the limits of what aching would be defined but as if he was baptised in fire. he thought to himself whatever that heat was, that was the root of the cause of this. This seemed to subside quickly as it came. it seemed it was a delayed reaction and the through the unconsciousness his body recovered.

Looking towards his farther his farther put a finger on his son's lips

"This is Arcadia forest, Your hunting grounds."

Mason turned around to the forest then started to walk inwards for a better look, he didn't hear his fathers footsteps.

As Mason turned around his father disappeared as if he left no trace.

Clearly, this was another test and all he had was his current equipment and wits, Seems farther gift wasn't free or without purpose.

seems I still need to prove myself and at this point, it is no place for hesitation.

Time to hunt
