10 Chapter 10: A Long Night

(3rd Person: POV)

Sitting within a conference room within the subterranean levels of the X-mansion Roman's group faced a number of teachers/X-men members.

Namely Charles, Scott, Storm, and finally Logan.

After Romans group had managed to make it back to the Institute and inform the staff of the situation that occurred while they were in the city this meeting had been called.

Where Romans group had explained in detail everything that had happened to them.

Including their student meeting with Laura.

Speaking of said girl she hadn't take her eyes off Logan since the meeting began.

She had simply been staring at him with an intense gaze.

While Logan basically did the same to her.

Their staring contest had been adding tension to the room ever since it began.

"So, is that all there is to the story?" Charles asked. Just as Roman finished recounting events. "There is nothing more you wish to tell us Mr. Maxwell?"

"No, there is nothing else professor." Roman said.

Which was a lie.

He certainly didn't mention he used his powers to kill a man.

He didn't want any hear any lectures from the professor tonight, and Roman wanted to process the fact that he took a life by himself for a moment.

Since honestly Roman wasn't bothered by doing so that much.

He's not sure if he was always like that or if it's a result of his transmigration, but either way Roman wanted some time by himself to figure it out.

Thus he had told no one he killed.

And the only other person who knew, Laura, hadn't said a word to anyone about his actions.

Even though Roman is sure she saw him kill earlier tonight.

But well, if Laura is keeping her mouth shut about the matter Roman is not going to poke that particular hornets nest.

Instead he will simply give Laura a mental thanks.

'Though considering what I know about Laura past thanks to my foreknowledge and the fact she has been solely focused on Logan ever since the meeting started maybe I should hold off on that mental thanks.' Roman thought.

"I see." Charles replied to Roman. "Very well. All of you may go. You've had quite the night. If we need to we can pick this up in the morning."

Nodding at Charles words Roman and the others stood up from their seats and left the room.

All except for Laura.

She stayed seated, continually to stare intensely at Logan.

While her target stood unmoving and continued staring right back at her.

"Logan. We'll give you and Ms. Kinney some privacy. If you need anything please don't hesitate to ask." Charles spoke.

"Right Chuck." Logan replied.

After he did do Charles nodded.

He then left the conference room with Scott and Storm.

Finally leaving Logan and Laura completely alone.

"So, who are you?" Logan asked.

"I'm you." Laura replied.

She then began telling Logan her life story.

-------------------

Wheeling himself into his office/private study Charles released a sigh.

Closing the door he wheeled himself over to his desk and then began rubbing the temples of his head.

Becayse ever since he had learned about the events Roman's group had experienced in the city he had a headache.

Then there's the matter of Laura.

The more Charles started to think about those things the more tired he felt.

"I'm getting to old for this." Charles muttered to himself.

A phrase he found himself saying and more in the recent years.

Despite this he will never give up the fight. He will never give up in working towards peaceful co-existence between mutants and humans.

Even if he has to continue said work until the end of his days.

Charles will never stop.

Removing his fingers from his temple Charles leaned back in his chair and started going over the details of the meeting.

He started to ask himself several questions, like who were the people who attacked his students and Ms. Kinney, and why where they after Ms. Kinney in the first place?

Charles asked these questions and several others.

But the one big question Charles was asking himself was why Roman was lying to him.

Well, not lying to him per se, but Charles could sense Roman had been withholding information from him earlier.

In fact ever since Roman came to the Institute Charles knew Roman had been withholding things from him.

But he didn't pry.

Know ing Roman's past as an orphan and then as a homeless youth Charles gave him his space.

After working with children like Roman for many decades he knew how guarded they were and how much time it would take to gain their trust.

Which is why Charles has been letting Roman keep his secrets.

But the fact that Roman kept information about tonight's attack on himself, his friends, and Ms. Kinney to himself worried Charles.

"Maybe Mr. Maxwell just needs a push in the right direction." Charles muttered to himself.

After all, it's not like he hasn't done the same things to others before.

Making a mental note to talk to Roman once more tomorrow Charles picked up his phone and then started making calls.

He needed to see if he could out anything about the people that attacked his students and Ms. Kinney.

Because from the way Roman and the others described the people that attacked them Charles knew one thing.

They would not give up.

So when they attacked again the school and the X-men needed to be ready.

-----------------------------

As Laura finished telling him her life story Logan felt several strong emotions at once.

Horror, disgust, a bit of pity for Laura, but the most prevalent emotion was anger.

A wild and furious anger Logan hasn't felt, or doesn't remember when he last felt, in a long time.

'How dare they?!!!' Logan angrily thought.

Cloning him was bad enough, but treating Laura the way they did.

Logan felt there was a special place in hell for the people who made Laura and he is going to send them there.

That's a promise.

Once he made that promise to himself Logan walked over to Laura.

He then gently hugged her.

Her eyes widening in shock Laura unconsciously began struggling ro break free from Logan's embrace.

But no matter how much she struggled against the his hug Logan wouldn't let Laura go.

Eventually realizing this Laura stopped struggling.

She even slowly embrace the hug.

Never nothing how her lips formed a small smile.

This being her first step to recover from the life she had lived up until now.
